Report Card Story.

I have a story about report cards from school I was asked to post fro the rest of the group. I think this just goes to show parents the pressures which kids at school are placed under and the fears they face when their parents see them. Sometimes kids can be driven over the edge worrying what parents will say or do.

Here is the story.

A friends mother passed her son's bedroom and was astonished to see that his bed was made nicely and his room neat and tidy. Then she saw an envelope propped up prominently on the pillow that was addressed to "Mom".

With the worst premonition she opened the envelope with trembling hands and read the letter.

Dear Mom,

It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm writing to you. I had to elope with my new girlfriend because I wanted to avoid a scene with you.

I have been finding real passion with Stacy and she is so nice but I knew you wouldn't approve of her because of all her piercing, tattoos, tight motocycle clothes and the fact that she's much older than I am.

But they're not the only reasons mom, she's pregnant. Stacy said that we will be very happy together. She owns her own shack in the forest and has a stack of cut firewood to last the whole winter. We also share the same dream of having a lot more children.

Stacy has opened my eyes to the fact that maijuanna doesn't really hurt anyone. We'll be growing it for ourselves and trading it with other people for cocaine and ecstasy.

In the meantime we will pray for Science to find a cure for AIDS so Stacy can get better. She deserves that much at least.

Don't worry Mom I'm 15 now and I know how to take care of myself. Someday I'm sure that we will be back to visit you so you can get to meet your grandchildren.

Love,

Garry.

PS. Mom none of the above is true. I'm over at Jeff's house. I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than my report card that's in my desk drawer.

I love you. Call me at Jeff's place when it's safe to come home.

Like the story

We all dreaded the parent reaction.

Wasn’t it typical when it came to the school report any subject you did well or excelled in, merited only a couple of choice words. e.g. progressing well, trying hard, etc

But come to the subject that teacher thought you were useless at, despite your best efforts , or simply hated your very existence, you’d get the full encore of criticism which not only took up the allocated space but continued over into the next subject line and beyond.

And according to this report things haven’t changed much in teachers views towards pupils

At least the kids in Kent were spared:-

A) Tries hard, but could do better

(IE Who the hell is this????)

B) Could contribute more in class

(Which I ALWAYS got for the subjects I was top in-English,History,French,Music(when all about lives of great composers) etc).

To which the standard detention-earning response from me was, Aren't YOU actually being paid to teach ME?

No pleasing some teachers.

Isn't it interesting thinking back to the time we were at school about how we were perceived by teachers.

In my case, my report card always stated the same broken record message. "A bright student who could apply himself better". How I hated that sentence-so stereo typed.

There were some teachers who no matter what you did, never seemed to please them. I received a mark of 97 per cent in one of my subjects-music, and yet I still got the same old sentence, "A bright student who could apply himself better".

They must have been issued with rubber stamps with this sentence.

In the case of my report card being read by my paernts, it was my mother who always signed the report book. My father never sighted the thing.

Mom signed it and never said a word about anything the teachers had written. However, if you knew my mother you would understand why. Away with the fairies living in her own world which was a good thing as far as I was concerned.

But there again, when you have parents who didn't have a high education themselves, it is easy to understand why nothing was said.

All was not lost however.

Well, doesn't that just show the true colours of teachers in your learning institutions.

Perhaps the school-having a booklet like this around could offer a course in Ding-Bat and Wallyism.

I have heard of a Wally before because my in-laws are English but I'm not sure on the meaning as we don't have a word like that in our cultures vocabulary. However, we do have the term Richard Cranium or Dickhead for those of you unformiliar with the former term, and there are a lot of DH's running around the place. My ex manager just name one.
