A, fact of scholastc life

-
Warm greetings to one and all.
I would just like to say a big thank you for every one who took the time to contribute a response to my last post.
I have already logged a response in more deatail along with every one else's contributions.

I really enjoyed my days at school. I wish i could have them back again.I attended two roman catholic schools in Glasgow. Cranhill primary was the start of my scholastic career, I was to finish my schooling at St.Gregory's RC Secondary. I was raised by my maternal aunt, who was a devout catholic. The whole thing used to put the wind up me. I do not mind admitting. when your wee and you go into a church for the first time, the whole pomp and ceremony of a full catholic mass can be intimidating. The one aspect that really freaked me out was the large figure of Christ on the cross.to see some poor sod looking in absoloute agony(as he obviousley was)The look of terror on the effigies face. most haunting.
The local nuns never used to bother as me. that could not be said for a lot of my freinds.
Cranhill School was lovely, all the staff seemed more like family members than our teachers. the place had it's fair share of do's and dont's as with any school. My Aunt always wanted mum to have me enrolled in one of those High-brow All girls schools, in Hamilton or Lanark. she never had the cash to do that. Then mum became best freinds with a vodka bottle and that was how i came to have my aunt meg as my legal guardian. I was punished at home but only when i truly merrited such treatment.
I remember once i was due to go to a freinds birthday party. And for some reason i had got involved with our next door neighbours little girl. well a squabble started and i turned on my aunt's garden hose and aimed the spray over the fence. little Kirsty was soaked. her mum came round to my aunt in a right huff! I did not lie, i couldnt. Meg wanted me to say sorry. i stamped my foot and refused. The next thing i knew i was firmley in my aunts grip. and i felt like i'd been swept up by the Clyde. in no time i was accross my aunt's knee. she had sat in her favourate garden chair so i was staring at the daisy's. i tried to wriggle off her lap, she just gave one slap to the back of each thigh and warned me about any further shinaniggins. she lifted the dress hem to barely above the waistband of my andy pandy pants. and she gave me my first spanking. it only lasted a minute, two at the most. my bum held the effects a little longer than that. I was seven, getting spanked..well it did bother me. getting spanked infront of the neighbour actually hurt my feelings more.
An hour later my aunt came to see me and gave me such a loving cuddle. i thought she was never going to let me go.
at that point i was warned about my future behaviour.
My first couple of years at school were uneventfull. at Cranhill, CP was used but only after all other steps had been taken. And parents were always notified if their son or daughter had earned a punishment appointment. Cranhill was mostley staffed by women, Mrs Ruth Mackenzie was our head. with miss Robertson and Mrs Forbes her two deputy's. we used to have a merrits and de-merrits system. similar to the awarding of a star routine. one difference. three DM's=one Black Mark and three BM's= 1hotbot.
We were also awarded merrits as well. a certain number of those and you would recieve a class certificate. if you achieved two or more certificates. the head would call you out in assembley and give you an envelope containing a record or book token.
Now only the three senior teachers were authorised to administer punishments. the chosen tools of discipline were: a medium sized oval shaped wooden paddle. always used for serious offences or repetative naughtyness.
A dingy white, almost grey size nine plimsol awarded for moderate offences and breaking school rules.
And finally, and most common. what the head called a mothers chastisement, a traditional over the knee spanking. and usually applied over the seat of pants or knickers depending on the recipient's gender.
I had recieved a couple of spankings up to my last year before senior school. both of them deserved, i would not call them proper spankings,it was usually twelve firm smacks across the bottom from the designated teacher. one such punishment took place at the end of friday morning assembley. my self and a freind had been sent out of chapel for s******ing and chewing gum during the service. well i expected to be awaiting my fate in the school secretary's office, as per norm at lunch break. i was very much mistaken. Miss meads escorted the pair of us to the assembley hall.
sarah tried to talk her way out of it. i apologised. and then i was dealt with first. this time when i was made an example (quite rightley) out of i coped with it a lot better.
Mrs Mackenzie warned me that senoir school would take a very dim view of such disrepectful conduct in their chapple.
She hoped that i would never have to find that out. thinking to myself i had a feeling that i would. but that as they say is another story.

LISA MARIE

Most interesting. You know how to tell a good story ie leave people waiting for the next part.

Are you wasting your talent in the Civil Service-senior managers would kill for that particular ability!

‘Cranhill primary was the start of my scholastic career…’ (Lisa Marie)

For clarification and the avoidance of doubt, could potentially prolific contributor Lisa Marie tell us the exact name of the primary school she attended in Cranhill. The building of Cranhill Primary was completed within the last two years.

not a problem RA2,
The name of the Cranhill school which i attended was:
St.Modans RC School.
within the local community and my freinds St.Modans was often refered to as Cranhill Primary. According to my freinds who still live in Cranhill St.Modans was demolished recently and the new Cranhill Primary has taken its place.

Kind regards
LM

Thank you, Lisa Marie. We look forward to hearing more accounts of life in Glasgow.

Judging by the photographs on Friends Reunited of St. Modan’s (known, we are told, as St. Modem’s in the Internet age) it was a happy school. There are lots of smiling faces.

thanks

Lisa Marie,
You sound a very pleasant easy to get on with person.
I find your postings very interesting, but keep expecting a voice
Saying " you've been framed".
So are we to have a continuation of another story.
I hope your not offended by my comments.
PAUL.

Lisa Marie,
I will attempt to clear the haze. When I first read your original
Post I automatically thought it was a wind up, You must admit it sounds
Far fetched.
Do the two women involved realize the repercussions it could have on
Them. If you did in fact get a spanking and you could prove it and
Said it was the only way of keeping your job you would have a fortune
In compensation.
You may be blonde but you certainly are not dumb.
You say you have a interest in C.P. I hope your boy friend realizes
How lucky he is and appreciates you.
PAUL.

Sorry to waste your time...I went to Catholic primary school in the early 80's. I'm looking for an old pal of mine...Marie H. She moved to Denniston, and I moved to the States...

By the way, I was belted by the teacher there...I went on to become a teacher, and now I'm an assistant prinicpal.
