When I was younger, between about 1959-61, I used to get Topper comic. One of the characters was Nancy, a dull badly-drawn little girl with an equally dreary little friend, a boy called Sligo.
But there were skeletons in the closet! Not only was Nancy looked after by Aunt Fritzi, with no mention of parents whatsoever, Nancy hadn't always been the nice and dull little girl I'd once believed, as this lot, from 1935-1952 will show you!
AND, just take a gander at the third one above again.
Now, compare the colour equivalent:-
Bet that one would fetch a bit on E-bay;seems Aunt Fritzi was well before her time as "Dom" Corielone!! Nice to know Art occasionally reflected reality, even in the comics!!

Aunt Fritzi seems to have been an ambidextrous spanker. Most unusual.

Not only is she ambidexterous, I'd say she wields a good natural swing with either hand/arm, too. You don't often see such natural talent-can you imagine Van Gogh painting left-handed & coming up with something better than he did?
Was Fritzi pumping iron with the lads so many years ago? She's also quite dishy looking for that era. The only comparison I can find is Buster Brown's Mum & that was the Edwardian Era!!
Must have broken her heart her little niece turned out so dumpy & so dreary!

Corporal punishment in comics

Most interesting. As an avid comic reader in the 1960s, the comics of those days were full of corporal punishment and spanking episodes, all in the cause of good British fun!
There was one character in either the Beano or the Dandy called Minnie the Minx. A very badly behaved girl who, at the end of each weekly episode, always ended up getting a good bottom spanking from her Dad's slipper. This was the final scene every week, without exception. I remember thinking, as a young boy of 7 or 8 years, that Minnie's bottom must have been constantly sore!!

Minnie also used to cop it at school in the 1950's.
Usually the strap across her tightly-shorted bum & usually from a lady teacher. Teacher also had a face that was a cross between the Head in Bash Street Kids(or When The Bell Rings as it was from its' start in 1954 to around 1958) and a bulldog chewing a wasp!
Think both strips were drawn by Leo Baxendale-any one else care to Wiki-it;I'm a bit busy!!??
