Sixth form pupils are paid £5 per lesson approved by education chiefs in Whitehall, to replace the shortage of high quality supply teachers leading classes of 11-16 year olds. so long as a QUALIFIED TEACHER' sits in on the lessons.

There are also reports of numbers of infant school pupils in unlawfully large classes of 31 a rise of more than 50 per cent in the last year,

Where are the days when a qualified teacher taught and supervised a class singlehanded with up to 40+ pupils rather than “SAT IN ” and everyone came out well disciplined, with an education to be proud of by today’s standards.

Hi Ketta,

You ask:

"Where are the days when a qualified teacher taught and supervised a class singlehanded with up to 40+ pupils rather than “SAT IN ” and everyone came out well disciplined, with an education to be proud of by today’s standards?"

A rhetorical question I assume, as I'm sure you know the answer only too well!

Long gone in most UK state schools, and unlikely ever to return under a controlling regime whose primary objective is to deprive teachers of any effective means of maintaining discipline in the classroom and whose secondary objective is to control and dictate the minutest detail of the curriculum so that even if by some miracle a teacher suceeded in actually teaching they would not be allowed to impart anything of any educational value.

Surviving, just, in some UK private schools, where the investment of parental cash in fees, and a better than average appreciation by pupils of the future financial benefits of a good education combine to provide an environment in which teachers can concentrate on teaching rather than on fending off the next physical attack by a pupil or a pupil's parents. Whilst it is unlikely that classes in these establishments would reach 40+ it probably wouldn't detract from the end result if they did.

Concerned parents should consider sending to unruly offspring to Africa for their education. School fees are low and would more than off set the airfares. The African economies would benefit from the injection of cash and the children from a return to traditional values.

Now that IS a sign of the times. Most (white) people who lived in Africa in the old days sent their children to the UK to be educated!
