I still read the forum on occasion, and do post when I have something to say, but I don't post as often as I might for a few different reasons.
(1) I've found an inexplicable hostility towards factual information I have posted to this forum in the past. I've produced referenced descriptions of real and recorded events, where the evidence is quite easy for people to check - and had to deal with people denying those things ever happened because they don't match their own limited experience. In particular, spending close to fifty hours analysing one of Britain's most detailed ever statistical studies of punishment in school, and calculating a baseline minimum number of girls who were corporally punished based on that data - a solid, confirmable number - only to have to deal with people saying "I know girls were never smacked at school because I never saw it happen in four years at Newtown High School" - well, it gets to the stage that you wonder why on Earth, you're wasting your time. Or spending a day tracking down the documented cases of the caning of girls by male teachers recorded in the Hansard of the House of Commons - and then dealing with people who say it 'never happened'.
(2) I am not entirely comfortable on a forum where my wife has been the victim of copyright infringement and then had to put up with people calling her a liar, and even worse accused her of being a male fantasist, after she wrote down descriptions of corporal punishment and abuse she experienced elsewhere.
(3) Frankly, the bulk of the material I have in a form that can be posted has been posted here already in the past. I do have a lot of other material but it's not always in a form that can be easily posted - and besides I'm not 100% certain what I have and haven't posted and would rather not double up.
(4) On top of all of this, I finally have a firm commission to write a properly researched and published history of discipline in education, and so my hobby is crossing over into my professional life and I need to be somewhat careful about sharing information for free that might be better placed in my book.

Dean,
I can assure that some of us do greatly value your contributions and appreciate your careful research and clear exposition. Unfortunately, those with limited experience and limited knowledge of culture and history do have trouble distinquishing fact from fiction and fantasy.
Good luck with your continuing research. I do hope we will be told when your book is published.
