Sassy Brats from Darbyshire

Since it is quite possible that I could have been one of those sassy brats from Darbyshire mentioned in a previous posting, let me set the record straight on a few matters.

Firstly, those so called commemerative coins were not a copper nickel alloy.
They did actually contain a small amount of gold, mixed mainly with silver and aluminium. They were probably worth around 10p each at the time. I actually managed to score at leat 2 of them.

Secondly, while I freely admit to being one of three girls seen to by Miss on our return to school it had nothng to do with any alleged misbehaviour at the mint itself, but rather stemmed from an incident on the coach on the way back to school.

Thirdly the term "sassy brats from Darbyshire" is way off base. The overwhelming majority of girls at my school were extremely well behaved. I will admit on very rare occassions some girls will exhibit somewhat over enthusiastic behaviour. But a good seeing to from Miss will usually settle them down. I hope this clarifies the situation.

I seriously doubt if the Royal Mint would be giving away thousands of coins even if they were valued at only 10p each. The true value would be probably closer to 1p.

In any case so what if some young upstarts were seen to by Miss as you say. This is no big deal. If this alleged incident occurred around 1979 then it was perfectly legal for a female teacher to deal with misbehaving girls in the appropriate manner.

I attended school in the UK around this time and cannot remember that incident being reported in any media whatsoever. However it is possible that some similar incident may have occurred around that time, that I was unaware of. Would you care to name the school?

I need to take very serious issue with some of the people who are being very disrespectful to one of the oldest and proudest counties in the UK.

It is all very well to have a little bit of irreverant humour now and then, but I think some people are taking matters a bit too far.

Also I suspect that some of this levity is possibly due to the fact that some of the women visiting this forum who are pretending to be in their early forties are in fact only in their late twenties. Please show a little more respect.

Hi Nicki. I am certainly not in the business of being disrespectful to what you call 'one of the oldest and proudest counties in the UK'. Indeed, I live adjacent to the county I assume you are referring to, and its high moorland plateaux of Kinder and Bleaklow are some of my most cherished locations. However, please note that the county's name is Derbyshire, not Darbyshire! And if it is the other county mentioned that you were thinking of, that's Berkshire, not Barkshire, hence Laughing Boy's little joke.

As regards showing respect to ladies, be they in their twenties, their forties, or any age either side of those years, I can only say heaven forfend that I should ever show disrespect to a lady! If you click here you will see my invariable response when I find myself in any sort of conflict with a lady, even if it is only over smilies! Males though, that's a different matter!

And before anyone tells me, a fundamental respect due to a lady is to get her name right. Nikki, please accept my sincere apologies for my very careless error!

Your apology is accepted on the proviso that there are no more liberties taken with the fine county of Darbyshire.

Ok, I have to ask. What is "a good seeing to"? Here in "the colonies" it could mean anything from a stern lecture to a savage beating.

In the UK during the time when cp was legal, the term " a good seeing to" could mean anything from a leg smacking to a slippering, but usually nothing harsher than that. In most cases it was simply slapped thighs or bottom with open hand.

It was a phrase mainly applied when talking about girls being disciplined.
However these days it probably means just a stern leture.
