Thought i would post this as being at this school in the 1980s others will
remember the Dan Tanner.Warbreck boys secondary school Blackpool has a few
mentions on FR about the cane and old Alf that called his cane Dan Tanner off
the TV series.He was a cellotape freak everything was covered in it especially his cane and he always said still everybody when he entered the room.Canings were frequent at this school if anyone remembers and certain teachers in my opinion used it too frequently.Their was a music teacher a Mr
Trusslove yes strange name who as you can guess not many were interested in
playing a recorder or learning how to read music but it was part of the curriculum then.He used to whack you on the backside with the implement used for playing the xylophone the little stick with the ball on the end if you did something wrong.I got whacked by him on the backside with a long ruler
when i was 15 just because i could not clap a piece of music he had written out on the blackboard.Those are the types of tests he did knowing full well
no one would do it correctly and he went through the whole class asking each one to clap out the written piece of music then stand and bend over to be whacked because he said thats not correct.I witnessed him cane a boy on the backside with two strokes once outside the staff room think the kids name was
Nick Tampin.Their was a maths teacher Mr Ward he terrified me at this school
as he could cane quite hard and all the kids were scared of him,he once slapped me hard across the face for talking during a test in class,i am sure
anyone out there will remember him walked with a bad limp.It was a harsh insight into how corporal punishment methods i think were abused by teachers.I remember a boy called Darren Howarth who showed us the results of his caning when we were changing for a games lesson and the bruising was terible,think his mum actually was going to take the teacher in question to court over it.There never seemed to be anyone regulating these punishments as far as how severe they were so you always lived in fear of being caned by one of these whack happy teachers and female teachers who were allowed to cane boys here as well.
