Repercussions of School punishment

August 10 2009 at 11:41 PM

I have been an avid reader of this forum for sometime, and can relate to many of the posts that I have read concerning School Corporal Punishment, and CP in the home, both of which I experienced in my youth.

I thought I would relay a brief personal experience and see if there are any other mates out there that had similar situations occur in their own experiences with CP.

I was age twelve and just nearing the end of term for that year, before I would have had my final year in Middle School. One day out of total stupidity, and nothing else, I decided to take something of value to my mother and father to school to show my mates. Needless to say, whilst this item, which was quite small was circulating underneath the desks in my afternoon English class, the Teacher became aware and politely confiscated the item.

Later on the afternoon I was summoned to the Deputy Headmasters office, where I discovered that the Teacher had informed the Deputy Head of my behaviour. Not that it should have been a surprise, as this particular Teacher and I seemed to not care for each other at all.

I was informed by the Deputy Headmaster that I was too be caned, and let me tell you, he did not hold back. I don't know whomever said that School trousers offered protection against canings, because mine certainly did not. I received six of the best right towards the end of the school day, and was at least thankful that I did not have to return to class after.

I was handed an envelope following my punishment by the Deputy Headmaster which was addressed to my Father, and stupidly I took it home with me and left it unopened. Even more stupidly of me ( I really don't know what I was thinking that day), I handed it over to my Father when he returned from work that evening.

Not only had the Deputy Headmaster written a letter to my Father and politely told him that I had been caned and why, and what would happen if I was to do it again, but in the envelope was the item that had been confiscated. My Father was livid to say the least, and hoping that he would be sympathetic in reading that I had already been punished, I felt I had more than learned my lesson. But apparently not.

I was sent to my room, which was fairly common, and a few minutes later, in walked my Father with his trusty size eleven carpet slipper. I was in total dismay. My slipperings were always given with my trousers and underpants down, and me bent over the end of the bed, or over the back of a chair that sat in my room. This time was too be no different. The only real difference was that my bottom was still quite sore from the caning received earlier in the day, and now marked with cane strokes, which further allowed my Father too see that I had been well punished. Those six strokes of the cane were quickly replaced with twelve very hard and stinging whacks of the slipper. I was in tears with the very first whack.

My reason for posting this is too see if other mates had similar experiences where either the School informed the Father that they had been punished,or if the Father caught on that they had been punished in school, and then proceeded to also punish them at home on the same day?

Personally I was too scared that my father would be informed so I was quite a good boy at school, although see Halfpenny's posts for similar experiences to yours in the 'naming a school-an experiment' posts. My dad actually used a type of bamboo cane so I ddnt want to get the paddle and the cane in oine day

Cane then slipper

August 12 2009, 3:38 PM

I can certainly relate to Nick's story of receiving a stiff caning at school and then having my dad try to obliterate the cane marks with his slipper.

My dad ran a small corner shop that sold a whole range of groceries, newspapers and cigarettes. There was always a pack of 'Woodbines' open, the cheapest cigarette available, because back then in the 1950's old ladies and gents on pension would come in to buy just two cigarettes. My dad turned a 'blind eye' to the fact that I occasionally pinched a Woodbine for myself - I was around 12/13 at the time.

One day as I left for school I took a whole 20-pack of 'Players', one of the more expensive brands. Once at school I bestowed ciggies on all my mates in return for promises of all sorts of favours. Unfortunately one of them was caught smoking and sent to the head and, no doubt because of the cane being brandished, broke down and blurted out how he came by the cigarette.

I very quickly found myself in front of the head, emptying my pockets. The appearance of a half-empty packet of Players and a box of matches made any denial a waste of time. I was told to wait outside for a few minutes while he made a telephone call. When I was summoned back into the office I was told I was to be severely punished. I had to bend over a table for 'six of the best'. I had been caned before but only three strokes and six strokes was excruciatingly painful. As it was near the end of the day I was told to go straight home. I left school, sobbing and red-faced and clutching my smarting backside. I was just so relieved to have got through what had been a terrifying ordeal that my spirits were soon restored and I was able to run for some of the way. With the constant massaging my welted cheeks I was feeling 'quite perky' up front by the time I got home.

I walked straight into the storm! The head's telephone call had been to my dad, telling him that I had been supplying cigarettes to the whole school, not that my dad needed to be told anything - he had already noticed the missing packet of cigarettes and knew exactly who the culprit was. I was ordered to go into the back room of the shop and get the slipper ready. My dad could not leave the shop so I was no stranger to being punished in the back room - it was out of sight but everyone could hear the racket we kicked up! To make matters worse, one of the young paper lads was in the shop and he soon had a sickly grin on his face. Getting the slipper ready involved retrieving it from a bottom drawer and then removing trousers and pants completely. I was on the brink of tears as I bent my aching backside over yet another table. My dad came in and angrily told me that that was the end of any pocket money for two weeks and then, despite the awful cane welts, the slipper cracked down - maybe twelve times - I know it was one of the worst hiding I ever got. I finally staggered down the passage and up stairs to bed blinded by tears. And the young paperlad told all his mates that "That big sissy at papershop got his bare arse tanned and went upstairs bawling his eyes out!"

We didn't have any choice in the matter of whether or not our parents were notified of CP in school. Where I went to school, a parent always had to be contacted for permission prior to a strapping being administered. Additional punishment at home was not, I think, unusual, but my father tended to use the belt sparingly, and more often I was subjected to grounding or assigned chores as punishment at home.

I have tried to recall anyone in my school having said that their parents were contacted following or before a caning, but I cannot think of a single instance. The school whilst seeing parents as 'paying customers' , also seemed to like to keep them as far as possible at arm's length. If parents were called by the school to a disciplinary conference it was normally a prelude to expulsion.

Certainly there was no standard note, and I recall asking on my first occasion if home would be notified, given near neighbours and close relationships I was more worried this could have occurred informally, and I received the standard 'Can't see why I should, what happens in school stays in school.

I think we were maybe unusual in this case. It may be because of the boarding contingent, you can hardly notify every offence to parents who might be half a world away ; and you should treat all equally.

If parents had asked I have no doubt they would have been told quite openly, everything was 'above board'.

Sorry not much help on this one.

Very much the same experience at my state grammar school. Parents were informed in advance about detentions, which were also listed on your school report, but there was no comparable action in the case of canings.
