For some reason I can't remember where, or even the name, of a story where Johnny gets hit by a car and Mike witnesses the accident but can't leave the engine, and later feeling guilt about not being able to help. Can anyone help?

There is one called A Christmas Story where Mike sees Johnny hit by a car but he was not in the engine. Here is the link.
