Recently sent an email to Dieselcar asking for the top 3 most economical diesel saloons, but have as yet got no reply.

Understood at one time that my A4 1.9Tdi was tops but this may have changed.

Anyone got any figures???

1.9TDi Avant

Well, I get about 1250 km to 1350 km to a tank with my REVO A4 1.9TDI avant...

I think its a 65 litre tank, but I've put in more than that, so maybe its a 70 litre tank? Not too sure.

I averaged 112km/h according to the car's PC on a trip to margate and back, which I did on one tank from Cullinan ("near" PTA).

A3

While the A3 TDI is not quite the same as the A4 (A4 slightly better I think) I got from West rand to Balito doing between 120-140 having used just under half a tank. Pulled into balito with the needle covering the half mark. It's a 55L tank.

Normal town driving I get around 6.8 (Overall) average.

My trip to Balito was 3 days after I bought the car. Was freaking me out that the needle's not moving. In my Corsa you could see it move.

Cheers,

Crispin

Whew, 6.8 - that's a bit heavy?

I get about 5.6 on town driving and about 4.8 on the open road. I normally set the cruise control at about 135 on the dial (129 on the PC).

BUT - last thursday it was about 25l/100km at 200km/h

Overall average

Hi Rich,

That 6.8 is my overall average (Average 2 on PC) I Never reset that, Not bad if you ask me.

Is your's a 5/6 speed? What you reving at at 200?

If I do around 120-140 on hiway, the average for that trip is around 5.something.

Cruise control - sore point in my life. Audi West rand says "It cannot be fitted after market. The computer does not know what it is"

Fat lie if you ask me... anyways, back to topic.

I'm the same as Bryce, (Not crazy Indian that is) around 200 on level I'm using around 13L/100. That's what a petrol uses at 100KP/H

Cheers,

Crispin

Ok, so took a spin to Rayton over lunch at 200kph up the hill got about 15.6. Its somewhere around 4000rpm on the 6 speed box, but I was sort of looking at the road and dodging warthogs, rather than checking out the rev counter... Coming back down the hill was 5.4 at 200. Its about a 3km stretch of hill.

Revo'd the wife's little golf TDi yesterday, and she's done 500km on it. Dropped her fuel consumption from 5.6 average to 4.8 average. Not bad, and it pulls all the way to the red line now - used to drop off quite badly after 3750...

hmmm, REVO sounds like the answer then
After 3700, I run out of breath.

She puls like a b1tch upto there and when in 6th, just runs out of steam over 3700. basically need a VERY level or a downhill to pull past that in 6th.

When Audi bringing out a 7th gear? We all know we have the torque for it

If you follow this link:

http://www.totalmotorsport.co.za/results_2004_0802_economy_class.htm

You will find that the 1.9TDi Polo was the most economical car across all classes.
