Hi,
I've recently saw some diesel owners chipping their cars.....don't you think this is a it dangerous? Reason I ask is because the 1.9Tdi and 320d had some problems a while back with heat and turbo failures at highveld attitude? They had to adjust the software to fix this so if you now go and up the power (and heat) then it must be risky....or am I wrong?

I have a mate, who's freeway plan expired, so he chipped and did a few extra things.. He has had no problems. I think its safe to do it as long as you dont burn it everywhere you go. If you drive normally and maybe occationally floor it, I shouldnt imagine problems with heat, blown turbos etc...
He got a chip logic..cant remember his stats.. 101kw i think..

They quoted 30kW more and 100Nm more on the Aud 1.9TDi. You can certainly feel the difference...
My 1.9 Golf got about between 20 and 25% more on both Torque and Power, and the Audi was a bit more...
Bear in mind for example the 1.8T motor (ok sure that's petrol). You get a 110kW, 120kW, 140kW, 154kW and 165kW. Its all the same block, just different turbo's and intercoolers, so the engine can take it. The designers build in tolerances, and chipping it just reduces it a bit.
Well, that's my take on it anyway. So far I can't complain about my 1.9 TDi, which does give the 2.5's a good run for their money...
