hey there guys.

attended a wedding this weekend and was sitting next to a friend who is a pilot and her man who is manager of one of the airlines.

they said that jet fuel is just high quality diesel coz it has to conform to European Standards.

the guys at the offices fill up with Jet fuel in their 4X4's coz its cheaper than buying diesel at the pumps here.

have any of u had any experience with this??

is it safe or not??

if it is, im gonna go get me some stock of it coz they pay about R4 per litre or slightly less which is almost a rand cheaper per litre than Sasol turbo diesel.

any comments or experience with jet fuel in your cars or 4X4's??

Jet A1

Hmmm, had a chat to my supplier's...

Ja, but...

1) Its cheaper seeing that it doesn't carry the same taxes as normal diesel, so by using it in a car, you actually breaking the law, so watch out.

2) It is more refined, but doesn't have the same lubricity of "normal" diesel, so not good for the engine. Just by the way, low sulphur diesel also has lower lubricity than other diesel, so it has pro's and cons.

3) the cetane rating is not part of the Jet A1 spec, so one cannot be certain of what it is.

I am told "STAY AWAY", so I think I will.

hey there Rich.
thanks for that info.

i knew id get some info on it here.
was gonna be getting the fuel at about R3 per litre coz of the bulk that the airliner buys, but i guess iw ill give it a miss.

regarding the fact that "less sulphur means less lubricant", so what do we do to make sure the engine is lubing properly??

do u guys also use different oil??

spoke to my one cuzz who works at an Opel dealership.
one guy had a prob with his OPC, they had a factory rep come out.they found that the guys was using a totally sythentic oil, and not the standrad one that opel uses, so they voided his freeway plan.

scary to see how they will void it for anything hey.

i hope we here dont get the same from Audi's factory reps.

chat to u guys later.

Closer to Parrifin than diesel

Jet A1 is a cleaner version of keroscene. keroscene is pariffin. Pariffin is cheaper than diesel by  along shot (Is it still?)

You car will run of parrifin and probably of JetA1. Doubt for long though. As Rich said, no (Little) lubricants in the fuel.

A lot of dodgy stations dilute diesel with paraffin to reduce the cost because pariffin is not taxed.

As Rich said, that is breaking the law. Tax evation.

There is a lot of that in the UK where they use famr diesel (Lower tax, lower quality) for cars. Constanty getting nailed by it.

Did he say what bakkies they are? 1912 Hilux or Landrover?

Those can almost run of crude oil.

Cheers,

Crispin

hey there Crispin.

i think he said they drive those rugged looking camel trophy land rovers and those delux models Range rovers.

i didnt know that jet fuekl is mostly Parrifine.

i would think it would be a cleaner version of diesel.

so if Totals eco diesel Plus is cheaper than the Sasol turbo Diesel, do u think they diluting it with parrafine??
