Recommendation wanted for washer additive

I've just come back from a trip to the berg and my windscreen killed a whole lot of bugs. The water in the washers was useless at washing away the dead bug mess.

Does anyone have a recommendation of what to add to the water to help wash away the oily mess and should I be using windscreen treatments like c-thru?

Thanks
Ray

Hi

Use a very weak solution of sunlight liquid to clean the bugs off. It is also good to put in a few drops of sunlight liquid in ur washer bottle. Helps keep the windscreen clean.

Sunlight liquid also washes out the polish on the car, it's like washing you car with it.. Go to AutoZone the carry buy washer cleaner.. cheap like R10

That sounds like the stuff I'm looking for. Pardon my ignorance (or missing the blindingly obvious ) but what is autozone?

I prefer to use Clean Green - doesn't smear like sunlight liquid, and doesn't seem to damage paintwork either. About 3 squirts to the reservoir each time I top up (usually when the reservoir is 1/4 to 1/2 full). Also nice for cleaning engines and mags, since it isn't as aggressive as mag cleaner / engine cleaner although to get rid of stubborn grease etc. it is a bit weak.

As I said before, a very very weak solution, and it works perfectly, with no damage to the paintwork. We have done this for many many years, in many many cars, with never a problem.

Edited for this : Oh yes, clean green also works like magic. Excellent for stubborn stuff.

Doesn't the soap have a negative impact on the window washer pump. I alos have this problem as I do a lot of out of city travelling. I've been reluctant to try out the Sunlight liquid thingy coz I thought it might damage the pump because of all the foam it creates. Or does it?

Hi Racharld,

As Ved says, you only use about half a teaspoon and only a little foam is generated and not enough to damage the pump.
