I would take a 997S over an M5. But apples to apples, M5 is a 4-door family car.

Porsche wins by 244 points vs 237 points.
Porsche bmw faster and better comfort.

Both cars 0-100km/h in 4.7 sec
0-200km/h for M5 13.5 sec (e55 stand no chance to 200km/h, 13.5 sec is freaking fast).
0-200km/h for Carrera S is 16.1 sec

60-100km/h
M5 2 sec
Carrera 2.5 sec

80-120km/h
M5 2.4 sec
Carrera 3.1 sec

The M5 lost 10 points to the 997 because of higher petrol use, & lower top speed cost it 5 points (M5 was governed).

SO now 2 different mags got 13.5 to 200. I got 13.8 & another got 13.9. The slowest so far was 14.5 on a slippery surface where they couldn't use launch control & had to pull from idle basically. So that's the worst case scenario which is pretty quick anyway.

M5 is very fast between 100-200km/h. See the list for other cars.

BMW M5 E60 8.8 s
360 modena 11.4 s
360 stradale 11.1 s
996 turbo 10.4 s
996 GT3 (2003) 10.2 s
996 GT3 RS 9.3 s
SL55 AMG 9.5 s
575M Maranello 9.3s
Gallardo 9.0 s
Murcielago 8.9 s
996 GT2 (462ps) 8.4 s

TJ here's the relevance "Aud enthusiats". Such a person would keep abreast of the competition so he knew where the benchmark is. Any enthusiast needs to know what height the bar is set so he can tryto jump over it on the next jump.

If you guys want to live like a Hermit & block your ears to what the opposition is doig they so be it. BUt here's an idea for you. You can see the title of the thread. If its something that doesn't interest an "Audi enthusiast" such as yourself then don't read it. Its that simple.

If I want to read BMW news I go to the BMW club site, I dont post my Audi views there actually as they can also visit our site when they feel like it.
Seems to me you only see speed in any case and do not comprehend that there is more to a car than speed only.
I have driven all, Merc, Benz and Jaguar, including two E-types and of the lot the Audi is head and shoulders above as a general car.

Actually if you go to the M5 board you will see that there are regular posts about all different cars. RS6, RS6+, E55 CLS55, SL65, Jags etc. They are all car enthusiasts & know that there is life beyond BMW. So they want to know what's out there & what the relative strengths & weaknesses of each car is.

If you happy with your Audi then I'm happy for you. Lots of other people are happy with their cars as well.

I enjoy reading posts about what other manufacturers are up to, and where technology is moving. I think it is rather narrow-minded to have no appreciation of (or interest in) what other marques have to offer.
After all I'm sure as Audi enthusiasts we are motoring (in general)enthusiasts.

Auto Africa

18, Instead of always trying to tell all about the wonderful virtues of the M5 tell all about the joke at Auto Africa where they had to adapt the off-road track as not the X5 or X3 could travel the original track and it had to be adapted as BMW felt that they also paid for the use of same track during the show.
What a joke of a SOFT-roader , leave quattro and 4x4 to those who knows how!

Hey here's an idea for you. If you don't like the X5, then ....
.
.
.
.

Don't buy it.

I most certainly won't buy one. How's that?

Say, are you upset that the M5 is fast. But it's not my fault. I swear I had nothing to do with it.

But while you're at it mentioning how pathetic BMW is, I thought I'd mention that the M5 lapped the Ring in 8:13 IN THE WET! Say, isn't that faster than its competitors did in the dry?

For those that are interested in comparing the relative strengths & weaknesses of the M5 to its competitors, here's the Sport Auto Test of all the cars. Same drivers, same tracks, same fuel, similar conditions, etc.
