ALIAS Paul

DATE SUBMITTED 19 Nov 2004

THE INCIDENT I recently spent more than a quarter of a million Rand on a new A3 at Audi Fourways. There is a significant factory fault with the car that endangers both myself and other road users and the response from your staff has been ambivalent and dismissive.

There is a fault with the engine that stops the vehicle from exceeding 3000 revs in any gear. This has enormous safety repercussions as it is difficult for me to overtake slower cars. On several occasions, I have found myself facing oncoming traffic and unable to move faster. I was told by your salesperson that this problem is not unique to my vehicle and has been reported by at least three new Audi owners at Audi Fourways alone. Have you taken any steps to alert new or potential owners about this potentially life-threatening problem?

After reporting the fault on 8 November and having it diagnosed on the 11th of November, I still find myself driving with the same problem. I don’t think that anyone cares - after all, your dealership has my money now – why bother with after sales care?

MY REMEDY Please take my car back.

If he bought the diesel, he would not have much of a problem.

No real point after 3000.

Cheers,

Crispin

Crispin.. I know you're probably joking but just in case you're not...

dude, the A3 TDI continues to pull like a @$%ed off bull ALL THE WAY to its 4500 redline,
so dont go dissing the TDi's rev range:) oh and that extra 1500rpm is like another 4000 rpm on a petrol..

I was joking - sort of.

You say your pull like a bull till 4500. While it does  continue to pull, I found you actually wasting your time.

I found best on my A3 is to change around the 3750-4000 mark. This brings you nicely into the torque on the next gear.

More pull down there than up at 4500.

Just my 2c, sorry, 2p worth.

Cheers,

Crispin
