I am faced with a dilemma, Do I extend the motor plan on my S3 or do I take the risk and drive it without.
To extend the car from it's current mileage to 144 000 kms will cost R 31826-00, However no extra value is given to the car if I decide to trade in 6 months time,
The car is currently on 76 000kms and just had it's cam belt changed,
The question I pose to the forum is how costly is the car to run without motor plan.
What major things tend to go wrong with the car, The usual services and parts are acceptable and not a major expense.
At what stage do CV's go, Are there any major parts coming up that need to be changed, and does anyone else out there have a S3 without a motor plan.
Or do I just part with the love of my life and look for a new car

PLEASE HELP and ADVICE

Expensive replacement parts would be the catalytic converters and the clutch. Both of these may just last longer than the life of the extended motor plan or may pack up before the end of the standard motor plan, so it's a bit of a gamble.

If you avoid the motor plan, the cats can be removed instead of replacing and the clutch may be able to be reconditioned. Of course Audi won't do this, they will only replace with new parts.

I doubt that wear and service items alone would justify the motor plan cost, however, it is not unlikely that at least one other expensive item will require replacement, which will help justify the cost.

I'm surprised that you say the motor plan will not help resale value. I'd much sooner buy a car that was on an extended motor plan than one that was not, because you know that the owner will have demanded that Audi sort out any issues rather than just sell the car as it starts developing too many problems. You also know that if you discover any problems, you can get Audi to sort them out, which is a lot easier than fighting the previous owner for not disclosing issues.

I am faced with the same dilema now and even thought I have a year or so (25000km) before expiry the sooner you sign up the cheaper the AFP quote.
The resale value argument is flawed as the dealer will screw you regardlesss and lets face it most of us dont sell privately (where the warranty is a plus) but trade in with dealer on a new set of wheels. The dealer will always give you unrealisticaly low value and even without a FP they will include when resaling to end user regardless.
There are a list of expensive and costly things to watch out for cat beign one of them and it is peace of mind knowing you are covered. but....
a cat converter is R5000 or so they stated on the invoice when mine was replaced December the cost of labour @ Audi is high but so is the standard.
If I didn't have a Multitronic gearbox (R50,000 to replace they say) I would have said bugger the FP get a Motorite / Holard Maintenace plan with limits of coarse but surely the labour and top up cost during the next 12-18 months will not be R30,000. Perhaps I am wrong but that is only 2 scheduled services and I doubt that any one even CV's Cam Belts and others would amount to over R15000 per service.....ask you service advisor to give you the info on other cars with milage in that range with what the avarage cost were.
When my old shape A4 was in its last stint with me over the 100000 mark I did pay for service around R2-R3000 a shot with my extended motorway insurance / warranty covering the expensive bits (or 70% at least)
So invest the R30 k is my gut feel and pray that all is well with your baby.
