I have a 2000 A6 2.8 Quattro Tiptronic with 88000 km and freeway plan until June 2005 0r 120 000km. The car will be freehold in a few months.
The problem is that I would only get about R 160 000-00 for it if I consider trading it in against a B6 TDi(when it arrives). I use the car for my daily appointments (i'm an Insurance Broker) and use the TT on weekends.
I have no idea about reliability issues about the car post freeway plan.
One thought is to sell cos this would be the most attractive selling time or keep it and consider the savings in installments and use the money for maintainance. Was also considering putting in a set of 18' A8 rims, colour coding the bumpers and sportech boot fin and then keep using it as I currently am until it falls apart.
The amount of electronics on the car is what makes me nervous. Do they last? How much of mileage to I really have until the problems start? The car has been very well taken car of, not hammered very much and always parked in a garage.
The 90000KM service is coming up soon - any advise on what ought be be checked so as to save me future costs?
Any advise on reliable warranties post freeway plan?
Thanks for the help.

well to give an idea, my current car is a 1994 500se (C4 body), with 230 000km's and is still going strong. the power steering pump has just started to leak but apart from that the car just carries on going. the electronics have never given me any trouble. I think the most likely issue with any audi including new ones is the power steering.
so my advice to you is to stick with your car. just think of the ludicrous cost to replace, not to mention the poor trade in that the stealers will give you...

The time to sell is now. Your car is a much older model that does not attract much attention because of its age, technology and cost to own/service.
The time to change tyres, shocks, tie rod ends, 120000km service ( +/- R 4800.00 min) is near. If you can get your R160k, take it and buy the new model. I am in the same boat with a A4 2001 model and 122000km on the clock.
I have been offered around the same price for mine, with a full service history from the dealers.
My 5 cents. Its still not an easy decision,
Regards

My A6 (1999) 2.4 Tip now has 180 000kms on it and I have no intention of getting rid of it. Happily manages to do everything that I require of it and does not cost vast amounts to run. I see no reason to buy a new long distance car when the one that I have is coping so well.

keep it boet.
I am the king of buying cars, I think Andre only just beats me in terms of the number of cars he's had in the past five years, and from experience you lose by swapping.
If there's nothing wrong with the car, then keep it. You got the TT, and you'll save on the installments anyway.
I had an 83 100 5E, which I took to 300 000km. Electronics has gotten more reliable since then, so you shouldn't have too many hassles.

Thanks for the input guys.
Had to take a trip to PMB (45 min drive from DBN)yesterday and head back to Dbn at 10pm last night. It rained for a bit and the roads were wet. The A6 handled itself beautifully. Always composed, nice visability and of course that brilliant blind in the back that I use for Idiots behind me with their brights on. Travelling a steady 150km/h with the passengers blissfully unaware and carrying on with their discussion (gossip?).
I think the car is a keeper. If the other A6 and Audi users get that much kms out of their cars then my A6 still has a long way to go.
Besides, I will have to settle for a smaller car (price of the New A6 30l is a bit much), without quattro. The A6 is still a pretty safe car and the braking and handling still amazes me. She is also a Very economical car on long trips. Power is decent (wish I had waited for the 2.7T though)and on my way to PMB i easily out powered and out handled an E280 (probably about the same year as my A6).
So I guess the 18' wheels and colour coding is going to happen. Going to call SupaquickS3 and have him get me the 18' A8 rims and tyres.
Thanks again guys for the input.
