Hi there

anyone has experience with blue-tooth car kits?

* Do they work well - can be fitted into all cars?
* Interface with radio system - ie radio get's muted & can hear sound over car spkrs?
* any particular "better" brand car kit?

Any other comments?

Thanks!

Hey.

Its dodgy. I had a Nokia CK-7W fitted into my A3, and it cuts power to the radio (my after-market radio doesn't have a phone mute option - I think the standard head unit does). The voice quality (when I speak in the car) is atrocious. I however can hear them perfectly.

I believe the Motorola kit is the top dog.

I have been using a Nokia CK-1W (I think thats the model) fitted to my A4 Avant (Audi Symphony) and it works very well. I have had minimal complaints about the sound quality from call recipients.

I presume it integrates well with most modern radios. With the symphony you can select the option of which of the front speakers to use.

My installation was done by Rakesh at Rivonia Car Sound.

My wife has just had one fitted and it works like a dream. Picks the phone up automagically even if it is in the boot! Sound quality is great and integrates perfectly with the Concert radio in her A4. I would highly recommend the Sony BT kit.

if you decide to use the bluetooth option, then bear in mind that there will be extra power drain on the phone since it will be connecting with the radio/kit. it will be worthwhile to get a charger at the same time.

I have the Nokia Bluetooth kit in my car. It is linked to my OE radio, and mutes on calls. It is very clear and uses the radio speakers.
I did have a few teething problems (ha ha Bluetoothing problems), but our guy sorted them out and retrofitted the kit as the original installers buggered it up. As mentioned by a previous post, it can drain your cell battery at quite a rate of knots!

A colleague of mine had pairing problems with his Nokia 6310i and his Nokia Blue Tooth. IE, the system works well when it does, but occasionally does not answer calls automatically or fails to make the linkup. The voice quality is marginally "grainier" than a "wired" system.

Apparently, the Motorola is the way to go currently.

My personal choice, however, is still the cradle type. It charges whilst you drive, you get an external arial and there are never any pairing problems

I've heard equally good things about the Motorola one, and the handset doesnt crash! Note that I said the Nokia carkit is good, the handset is abominable!

Thanks for the feedback guys!

I'm planning to get the Samsung D500 (just released). So if I get the Motorolla kit with it the combo should work just fine? Anyone tried this (maybe with an earlier Samsung phone?)
