Pimped from the Budget speach..

Octane differential
Following discussions between the Department of Minerals and Energy, the petroleum industry,
motor vehicle manufacturers and other stakeholders, it was decided that the domestic octane
structure of petrol will be changed as of January 2006 when 91, 93 and 95 octane will be made
available inland as opposed to 93 and 95 octane at the coast. For purposes of fuel efficiency,
only some of the newer vehicles require 95 octane petrol in the inland. Therefore, given limited
fuel refining capacity as well as the need to limit octane wastage in inland areas, it will be
necessary to manage the inland uptake of 95 octane petrol. It is therefore proposed to
introduce a demand management levy on 95 octane petrol from 1 January 2006 for inland areas
only.

In an unprecedented move today, the minister of minerals an energy announced the complete de-regualtion of fuel prices in South Africa.

She also recommended that all filling stations accross South Africa carry 98 Octane Fuel. All filling stations who adopt this policy will receive a tax benefit for every litre sold before December 2005.

The minister stated categorically that rumors of death threats and extortion from the motoring community are entirely untrue.

Another piece of draft legislation on the cards entitles AUDI drivers to a 10% discount off the pump price. Likewise, Subaru drivers qualify for a 5% discount if they are wearing an AUDI T-shirt whilst filling up.

If this legislation is passed, however, owners of SUVs would have to fork out an extra 25% at the pump price. This is, according to the minister, to discourage the sale of these mostrosities and ultimately to reduce the number of crushed fenders and other parking-related accidents in our suburbs and shopping centres.

---

This is, ofcourse, entirely un true people.

Don't sue!
