Hi guys...having recently moved house, I collected all my mail which was still delivered to the old place yesterday...lo and behold - 2 fines as well, all from my trip back to Jhb from C.T and all early morning...1 in Richmond and 1 in Worcester....question: are all the "departments & networks" linked? having renewed my licence last week, the renewal form indicated "0 fines outstanding"...or does this only show when you've failed to meet the deadline date ?

Interesting question... I believe I was snapped in a (ridiculous) 80 zone in Bloemhof last weekend, and I was wondering exactly the same thing.

Anyone out there with some real info?

As far as I know only certain areas are linked up to each other. Like Worcester is not linked to the Cape Town system.

All

If i am correct, the fine u get by mail has a deadline, if u do not pay before, they issue another that is hand delivered, you must sign for accepting it, that has a new deadline, if that is not paid in time , then only will it show as outstanding.

I stand to be corrected, that is how it works in the Freestate.

I also got 2 fines on my last trip to CT, 1 in Worcester and 1 in Beaufort Wes, still have not paid , waiting for seconds, they can only proof u received it if u signed for it or if it was handed to u by a Cop !!

Sorry about the delayed reply..... busy Catching idots with unroadworthy vehicles,

OK, in KZN all the Provincial Traffic Dept's (NPA / RTI)are linked via NaTis. The license renewal comes from NaTis.

The municipal traffic Dept's are not linked.

The Sec 341 ( Camera Mailer) is posted to the owner of the vehicle he or she then accepts responsiblity for the offence OR notifies the Dept of the driver at the time of the offence. The whole procedure starts again for the "new" driver. This can go around in circles >>>>>

In SA normal mail delivery is not accepted as "official" delivery and 95% of SA don't PAY on this notifications.
If u don't respond to the Sec 341,(Camera ticket OR parking ticket) a Section 54 will be generated. Normal procedure.

A Sec 54 ( Summons) must be delivered either via registered post to u or to somebody older than 16 which is permanetly living with u or working with u. This is known as a NON-personal service, Some courts don't accept this service.

Personal service is serving the summons directly to u in person.

The "new" pay date and court date will be on this document. Failing to respond to a Sec 54 or Sec 56 is a criminal offence and a WARRANT will be issued for yr arrest.

If the Traffic Officer stops u and give u a "dear John" letter (Sec 56, speeding ticket, summons) U must pay or appear in court as per dates on notice, failing to do so, a Warrant will be issued to arrest u ... U will pay the fine as well as a Contempt of Court Fine

Moral of the story ----- Wait for the summons, make them work for their money nothing illegal about this

----- Life is tough
