Hi all
1. I need to replace front disc's on my '94 S4 Turbo. Agent price R1800 each plus pads R1600, Total R5200. Difficult to swallow. Does someone know of any replacements for this car please!
2. Suspension also needs attention. Information on reliable cost effective workshop/help in the Pretoria/JHB area concerning shocks etch please!

Welcome here Hendrik! I like your login (wynboer) but I didn't know they taught wine making at Tukkies?
We have tried to get aftermarket disks for the S2's without much success. You might try AutoZone and Midas but I doubt that they will be able to get disks. They might have pads.
Khetan's suggestion is a good one if you can wait a while - give Powerbrake a shout.
The last option is to try Vagparts - we generally get parts from them for about half the price that Audi SA charges. Mastermind is currently putting together a group buy to save on transport costs. Mail me (gandalf@audiclubsa.org.za) if you are interested and I will forward it to him.
I agree with the Mayor that Ted at Afrishox is very good, but he does Bilstein shocks which are expensive (but worth it IMHO). Try Will_20VT as well - he imports SPAX - his mail is ecuwill@mweb.co.za. The other option is CRS Pitstop which does Koni shocks.

Does your car have the "drum" disc with the inner caliper? If so I would suggest converting to Audi A8 calipers, which with a little modification can be made to fit the S4, and have Renaldo make a set of discs to fit. Total cost including pads should be in the region of R.4000 - but then next time round replacing discs would cost about R800 and pads are available at most spares shops. This worked very well on my 1993 S4.

On the shocks.... I had to replace my rears on the S4. Audi quoted something like R.4000 each. I ended up using Gabriel Gas ryders. The catch is that the top mounting arrangement has to be modified to fit the S4 and the springs shortened by 25mm to retain standard ride height. It worked great, the car handles fine and it cost me about R.1300 including fitment.

If i am not mistaken these cars came with the all non popular UFO discs, but not sure of all the SA models. Anyway, a friend here in Bloem had the same problem , also the front shocks are rediculously expensive, what we did was a cheaper solution, not necesary the wizest, cause you will loose some braking power. We took the front struts off a 500 SEL and fitted it to his car, works good, now he uses those cheaper discs and cheaper pads and cheaper shocks.
Well, thats a " Boere Plan " from the Freestate, its works.

Leon's Suggestion is by far the best option if you have those UFOs.
Vagparts will be the next best route.
Whats actually wrong with the suspension? If its just shocks CRS do Koni. I used the lower Koni with a matched Eibach spring on my S4 (sold then buy Audi SA as part of the sportkit) which makes the car 40/50mm lower and harder but handles like a dream.

Yes, Audi prices... Here's what I learned when I had the S2.
Option 1:
Upgrade the brakes. The standard brakes are pretty cr@p at best and a decent setup with A8 discs and Porsche calipers will save you money on pads and dsics int he long run. It also caters for future horsepower aditions (don't kid yourself, it WILL happen.)
Option 2:
Keep the cruddy standard brakes. The cars are severly under-braked for their weight. You will continue to eat pads and discs with heavu braking. If you must keep them standard, here's how...
Fronts: James arranged a nice set of Zimmerman discs for me, see if he can get any more. Otherwise call Beras on 0119076931, even better, go there in person. They will get agent parts at half the price (ask for a discount, they will give you one!). Last resort, phone Powerbrake. Pads are R1100 a set from AutoZone. Beras will likely get them cheaper though.
Rears: Pads are R310 from Autozone. Discs are cheap. Get the one for a 2001 A4 2.0. They fit straight on.
