I have this 88 Audi 90 Quattro that I have been wondering and pondering as to what I should do with replacing the engine 2.3 KV Naturally aspirated motor, with something with lots more power.
The latest idea is to get hold of an Audi V6 2.8 30 valve motor and use that. From what I can see the V6 will fit the current 5cyl gearbox. Just need to cut away the section of the bell housing to accommodate the electronic timing pick-up.
Question is would you prefer the vehicle as it left the factory or with the V6?
Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

I have lost ure number, could u SMS it to me, want to speak a bit again !
The 30v engine would be a nice conversion, u can also think of adding a turbo to ure current engine or, get a 7A 20v 5 cylinder normal aspirated engine from the importers, a bit more power but not all that much. The importers also stock the 4.2 V8, that has aslo been fitted into a 90 before, your options are endless, but i will seriously think about turboing the 2.3, that would be something unique !

About the "Resale", if u do someting like this, that u want to do, u will be spending more than u will ever get back. I say , Keep it, it is unique , and if u can get it to go fast, with a nice set of wheels, it WILL turn heads.

Personally, I find the older 2.2 5 cylinder motors to be such a unique and wonderful part of the Audi history that I'd be hesitant to swap one out for another engine. If more power is the goal, I'd sooner look to the S2 engine then to the 2.6 / 2.8 V6 motors. If you're looking for an extreme makeover, maybe look at the S2 and RS2 sedans (only 80 RS2 sedans and 306 S2 sedans were made) for inspiration. But the 90 quattro is still a wonderfully distinguished vehicle as is and, if the engine is in good condition, there is something very appealing about it being original.

Albie and Greg thanks for the response. Sanity prevails for 1 day at the most. I just love the idea of the V6. Got some prices on parts for a V6 and almost died of heart failure.
Just not wild about the turbo route.
