Hi Guys,

What is the most sensible place to store the emergency black plastic ignition key. I was thinking of hiding it somewhere on the car itself i.e. inside one of the wheel arches for example.

Hmmmmm hope not many car thieves frequent the car forums I keep mine with the spare key in the safe.....silly I know when I locked the keys in the boot 6 months ago I had a bunch of moorons send by Audi Assist to try and open the car in the process they caused R800 damage to the door knobs inside the car trying to unlock it with a stick through the sunroof. After 3-4 hours of trying another locksmith genius told me that it is easier to get my safe open (as guess where my safe key was....in the locked car right) that to keep stuffing up the car.So he drove me home and opended my safe rather quick.
Moral of the story keep it safe but not with the car something like a close by family member / wife or a girlfriend is perhaps the best......not that I listen to my own advise the key is still tucked away in the safe......

The plastic key safely stayed in my wallet. Fortunately never had to use it.

As for the spare key, when I moved up to Jhb, I left the key at my uncles place.

Talking about Vesco's experience, my mum n dad went with an aunt n uncle for a flower show somewhere in the Natal midlands. They went with my uncles C180. Now this was drama like you will not believe. My uncle locked the key in the boot, and being in the middle of no where, it took about 8 hours for all and sundry to try and get into the car !!! Spare key was also at home (200km away), and the house keys were locked in the car.

I think the moral of the story is, keep your house keys on you !!!

Just my 2c

Hi Ved,

Just be careful not to leave your wallet in the car as well.
