Being all excited about the B7 Audi, I went to Audi the Glen to order the new 2.0 TFSI.
I wanted to trade in my Audi S3 (154Kw ) 2001. The car is in excellent condition however was totally slated by the used car sales man, as he had a list of imperfections which would cost no more then a few hundred rand to fix.
I was offered R 163 000 for my car and was told this was the best they could do, and was in fact book value.
Somewhat discouraged as I was told when I bought my car that it was a cult car and would never have a problem selling it. I phoned around.
BMW without even looking at my car offered R 170 000.
I also found out that book on my car is R 179 000 and retail is R 209 000
Am I wrong in believing that Audi should have given me the best trade in, as I was sticking to the brand.
I subsequently phoned the sales person and complained about how he had lied to me and cancelled the car that I had ordered,
Does Audi not believe in keeping Loyal customers close.

Must agree. When I decided to change from the S3 I looked at various cars. Most were in the class of the C2 that I eventually picked as a day to day car, but also, out of brand loyalty went to 2 Audi dealers for trade in values on A3 TDi's. Interestingly they were the lowest and second lowest of the trade in quotes that I got.
Good way to keep your clients that!

TJ, was offered R5 000 less than I paid for it when someone thought I wanted to trade it in on a Landcruiser. So that R625 depreciation a month. Not bad! Name an Audi that can match that at the moment.
Oh, and lets face it - the one Audi one was R40 000 lower than I got for Citroen. Thats more than a third of the price of a C2. So one way or the other, buying the C2 seems to have made financial sense.

As much as I like the cars, due to this fact I think that this will be my last Audi. There is absolutely no reward for brand loyalty, which is ridiculous considering that my sister just traded in her Polo and got 10k more than any other offer from the VW deler, who clearly stated that this is due to the fact that she was buying a new Golf (the 5 TDI, which is a bomb of a car BTW)

this is actually a problem on most high value cars, example a friend wanted to trade his e55 AMG which he paid R890 000 for and after 8 months merc have him an offer of R600 000
RS6 driver

Your Audi was the pre facelift if I read it correctly and obviously there will be no dealer assist on a new Audi, lets wait for the Citroen's new model and then talk again.
And I have nothing against a Citroen and is in fact also a Ford fan (drive a 4.0 D/C) and have ordered the new F350. Fact is however that second hand car values is zilch and if you believe we are bad of, be thankful you do not live in the States.
A Nissan 1400 bakkie lose vortually no value as do Citi Golfs and many smaller cars= remember most okes that wanrs an RS6, S3 or any more expensive car for that matter would normally rather buy a new car.
The lower priced vehicles have more first time buyers that cannot afford a new vehicle and that makes it more viable to keep on your stand.

"Fact is however that second hand car values is zilch and if you believe we are bad of, be thankful you do not live in the States"
TJ if we lived in the States, we probably wouldn't have been ripped off in the 1st place ... maybe 2nd hand cars are worthless in the States (e.g.) because NEW car pricing is so cheap / affordable?
Consider the following:- What's been the EXCUSE why SA car prizes did not drop pro rata when the Rand improved so drastically against the $??
Am I wrong, or was PROTECTING the 2nd hand trade part of the excuse?
And so now who's doing the "protecting"?? Yep - definately not Audi.
But I must wonder whether the fault lies at the door of the Dealerships. Who's making the money??? My guess would be AUDI SA - the importers, not the dealerships.
It should be within the Ímporter's power to:-
* Make it more worthwhile to trade Audi's in on Audi's (ie some sort of incentive to the dealerships)
* Make genuine Audi spares more affordable in the 1st place, so that 2nd hand Audi's out of Freeway plan would sell more easily.
You know, I feel sure that Audi SA is to blame ...
Anyhow, just me rambling .....

So plcomp -
Which of the major motor companies in SA did adjust there prices down? I know only that direct importers such as Ferrari and Lamborghini did? BMW didn't, Lexus didn't, Volvo didn't, Merc didn't? So that makes Audi the bad guys?
Why not use the opportunity to go out and buy the second hand Audi (or BMW) of your choice? Its time to buy second hand. Whatever you drive.
