The challenge is on between these two Countries of Origin!!!
AN ACTION PACKED DAY - NOT TO BE MISSED!

On Sunday 3rd April, Rainbow Raceway will be introducing one of the most anticipated events of 2005. The event in question, Germany vs Japan, had it’s origins in the Cape 5 years ago and due to popular demand, will now be held in Gauteng for the first time. This event attracted competitors and spectators from all over the country, making it the Cape’s biggest inter-club event of the year.

What makes this event so unique, as that it includes many different manufacturers in one event – just which country makes the best cars Germany or Japan?? The Germans need no introduction, with cars like VW, Porsche, Opel and BMW all sporting proud Motorsport heritages in track racing. The Japanese are responsible for high revving multi valved engines from manufacturers such as Toyota, Nissan & Honda, very popular with street drag competitors around the world. One of their most famous - Subaru, is well known for their successes in world and local rallying.

This year, with the help of the VW, Opel, and BMW Owners clubs, the German camp hope to uphold their unbeaten record against the might of cars from the Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mazda and Subaru Owners clubs. Members of non-marque specific car clubs such as, Zoopedup, Nitrocrew, Southside Crew, Nitropower as well as the very popular Speed & Sound/Yokohama Drag Team, should support entries for both camps. The event will also be open to cars from other countries of origin.

Although this is a manufacturer challenge, the emphasis will be on club representation and camaraderie. The top-performing club for the day will receive a R5000 donation. This will be judged on various criteria including, number & condition of cars entered, performance & points in classes overall etc. Car clubs are encouraged to invite non-racing members to take part in an informal Concours/Show ‘n Shine or club display. This will go a long way in supporting your racing team’s overall honours for “Top Club” on the day.

There will be classes for all models and different levels of modifications. The secret to winning this challenge is to gain as many points as possible. To do this, each driver will accumulate points in his/her class, from the standard 4cyl to the heavily modded 8cyl cars. These points will go towards his/her manufacturer, club and country of origin. Even drivers who come last in their class will score points. The more the numbers and the better the spread, the better the chances of winning. After all, this is a TEAM challenge.

This event’s main sponsor Speed & Sound Magazine – SA’s top street legal enthusiast magazine, will be there in force with their Drag Team and will also be taking videos and pics. Rainbow will be the place to be seen, as the SNS photo teams will be taking pics for a full article and report in their May/June issue, as well as their popular TV Show – “Speed & Sound Show Time”.

Streetcar style events are showing all time spectator turnout records at racetracks all over SA. Journalists are affording us much more of their time, realizing the amazing loyal & dedicated captive audience that these events attract. On race day one can enjoy the cheers and jeers, as the next pair of cars take the stage for a race down the drag strip.

Rainbow Raceway, the oldest Drag strip in SA, is well known for its Drag events over the last 2 years and is very popular with top dragsters from all over Gauteng. This year Rainbow aims to open its doors to smaller clubs, assisting them to grow and gain the recognition that they deserve.

Our spectators are in for a Royal treat, with the parking lot being filled by highly modified “Fast & Furious Style” street and race cars, as well as Club & other Accessories on display. The very popular Sound Off will be hosted by “SPLSA” (contact Divan on Cell: 082-5785920 for more info). All vehicles are welcome here and entries are done on the day. The show is directed at the amateur & novice cars. So no matter how small or large your system is, come and enjoy the day.

Competitors for the drag events can enter from 7am on race day. Street Car classes only. Helmets, Seatbelts, long sleeves are compulsory. Restricted Competition Licenses are compulsory and will be available when entering. MSA Competition Licenses are also valid. Perhaps, people, you should rather attend the skidpan day and AGM that has been organised.

You are all more than welcome to attend at Wesbank Raceway at 08H00.

Alex - I know that you know exactly where Wesbank is.
