Thanks for the opportunity to share Mondioring with you. I hope this will leave you with a better understanding of Mondioring and how it may compliment your needs. Considering there may be many questions I keep the answers fairly short and hopefully to the point.
Q - What does it take for a dog to compete in Mondioring in terms of drives (prey/defense/fight)?
Briefly, how is a young dog brought up through a Mondio program to ensure success?
A - I think we could write a book on the first questions. I will try to summarize and possibly this will encourage specific questions within the umbrella of these topics.
Considering this is a question for the protection phase. I look for the dog the show me "joy of the bite" and "joy of the fight". In Mondioring a dog needs a good balance of prey and defense and the training decoy will use these drives to obtain the "joy of the bite / fight". For young dogs or older dogs starting out I am looking for total commitment to the bite and once the rag, tug or jambier (all considered bite objects) is won, the dog will immediately spit the bite object and refocus on the decoy. It should not matter if the decoy has another bite object. The dog is refocusing on the decoy because that is where the next bite is coming from and that is where the fight will come from. The bite object is of no consequence. To bring a young dog up for Mondioring is no different than any other ring sport. The dog must have success at all times, must be trained with Ring III in mind from the very start, must be socialized and completely comfortable with it's environment.
