Response to Breeding

I can see how a dog bred to excell in Schutzhund might not do well in Ring sport. I can see also how a dog bred for Schutzhund could excell in Ring sport. I mean drives are drives correct? Courage is courage.

Q - Is there any traits that are overlooked in Ring breeding that might make for a bad Schutzhund prospect dog yet doesn't matter for Ring sport? Same question but for Schutzhund bred dogs.

A - I don't think so. Working line breeders are trying to produce the best dogs. It is up to you to assess the working sports and what they may add to a breeding program.

Q - I have read quite a few discussions that with all the rule changes Schutzhund dogs can get by easier and easier. Yet I haven't seen any dogs as precise and well trained as Schutzhund trial dogs.

A - Mondioring is not pattern training. Again, you must assess for yourself what sport or working activity is for you.

I'll try to list what changes in Mondioring from trial to trial:

1. Order of all exercises
2. Direction of all exercises
3. Placement of blinds
4. Shape of field
5. Look of field
6. Heeling pattern
7. Retrieve object
8. Distraction for Absence
9. Food refusal locations on field and food refusal exercise
10. Send out direction
11. Order of Positions and starting position
12. Articles for Face attach and Article attack
13. Obstacle for Face attack
14. Order of Flee stopped attack
15. Location of Decoy for search and bark
16. Escort route and escapes
17. Entire Defense of handler routine
18. Object to be Guarded
19. I'm sure I have missed something....

Regards

Bob
