the rag is an extension of the decoy...
the tug is an extension of the decoy...
the jambier is an extension of the decoy...

The fight or game comes from the decoy and the puppy quickly learns that's where the fun is.

Rags are used because they are easy to flit about and are very soft and forgiving on a puppies teeth. Once proficiant with the rag the pup is moved to a small tug that he can get his entire mouth around. Then graduated to a larger tug that has a loop over one end where the foot goes. This gets the pup used to turning his head. from there, hand held Jambier (leg sleeve) and finally jambier on the leg itself. The last step is to the pants.
