To start with:
1. What type of figures do you plan to build ?
A. plastic (Dragon,Tamiya,Tristar)
B. resin (Warriors,S&T,Tank,Wolf)
C. metal (Andrea,Hornet)
2. What type of paints are you going to use?
A. acrylics (Vallejo,Tamiya,Pollyscale...ect.)
B. enamals (Modelmaster,Humbrol)
C. oils
3. Which theatre do you plan to model?
A. European 1944-45
B. North Africa,Sicily,Italy 1942-44
C. Pacific 1942-45
4. Do you plan to model US Infantry,Airborne...ect?
(The uniforms will vary in color shade and style)
Example: Wool was the most common uniform material
in the early years of the war 1942-44,than
the HBT type was introduced in 1943-45.
Airborne units had their own uniform design
utilizing the new M-43 HBT material.
5. Do you plan to build a vignette or single figure
displays?
6. Do you plan to use ready market diorama kits?
A. Custom Dioramics,Verlinden USA are some of the
best.
7. Good references are a must if you plan to be serious
about the models you build and enter in a contest.
( that is if you plan to enter a contest?)
8. Sites like this one is full of experienced modelers
who can help you.
9. Since you mentioned you were planning to build US
WW2 a good reference book on the subject is:
Government Issue Collector's Guide,Army Service
Forces Catalog by Henri-Paul Enjames
ISBN:2-913903-87-8 a great book on everything US
