Hi

Im trying to achieve a chipped paint look. Should i spray my model in a metallic colour first, apply maskol respray in final colours and then remove the maskol to show what should look like bare metal underneath or is there a better way to achieve this look.

Any help much appreiciated.

Thanks Joe

The most common method of chipping paint is actually painting on the chips after the base coat is applied, unless you are working in a large scale (1/16th) What I usually use is acrylic craft paint, mixing brown and black about 50-50. Dilute generously with water, this will increase youor drying time and make your chips more subtle. Use a small (5/0) brush and randomly apply your chips where desired. Use a stippling motion, and vary your brush direction. You'll have to keep the brush clean if the paint dries on it.
Remember, this technique a VERY easily overdone. I like to keep it to a minimum and around high traffic areas.

Cheers-
