pinwashes

what exactly is a pin wash, i have heard the term but i have no idea what it is. can someone please help with that and teach the way to use it. I really want to learn more about modeling. and i figured this is the place

Mike,

If I'm not mistaken, a pinwash is the same as a filter. See this link for several usefull articles by Mig Jimenez.

A pinwash is a wash that is used just to accent a certain area, like around rivets or in a crease; a normal wash covers the whole vehicle. A normal wash is a heavier mix of paint to thinner, maybe 80% thinner 20% paint. It is used to simulate shadows. A filter is much more diluted, about 95% thinner and 5% paint. Filters are used over the vehicle to alter or fade paint and/or unify camoflage schemes.
