Date: 07-18-03 18:01 PDT mini-summary for Thursday, 17 July 2003

i was in and out doing laundry last night, so i wasn't paying lots of attention to what was going on (i was going to rewatch before tonight's ep...), but this is what i remember:

*Tere has been electro-shocked into unconsciousness. after staying to make sure it's done, Junior leaves to go deal with his own stuff (more on that in a sec). Repulsiva stays on to happily drool over Tere's situation. Dr Slime worriedly tells her that Tere will need several more such treatments. Repulsiva smiles in a particularly repellent way and says she hopes Tere's brain melts. Also, she would like to talk to him about arranging for Tere to have a heart attack... he knows what she's talking about (meaning, she will pay him).

*Suzy is in the kitchen making something. she chops up some tomatoes, then gets out the mortar and pestle and a light bulb. she grinds up the glass from the light bulb then adds the chopped tomatoes...

*Gus and Tarta try to get away from the Bad Guy Redshirts by claiming they're just building inspectors, but the BGRs are still suspicious. Gus finally ends up distracting them by tossing his briefcase at them. he and Tarta make a dash for it just as the bombs go off. of course, they get away and the BGRs get killed. before they sneak out of the ruined building, Gus plants the ID of a Narco from some other branch (Juarez or something) of the Narcos to cast suspicion on them. he tells Tarta he wants to get all the Narcos fighting amongst themselves. two more Random Bad Guys arrive on the scene as Gus and Tarta slip out; as planned, they find the ID card but don't see Gus and Tarta.

*Mom, having apparently left Suave Owner sleeping, returns home. AA Mateo sees her enter, wearing the same clothing she’d been wearing the night before. Gus remarks on her wearing such elegant clothing for breakfast, but he’s only teasing her. he tells her he’s happy she’s going out and meeting people.

*Mom goes to talk to FA. she tells him how she spent the night with SO. she feels really guilty. FA tries to encourage her, saying it’s good she’s getting out and meeting people, etc. but he’s misunderstood the main reason for her guilt, so she explains: it’s not so much that she slept with a man she doesn’t really know, it’s that the whole time she was wishing that man were AA Mateo. that’s betraying both AA Mateo and SO.

*after Mom gets back home, she either finds AA Mateo waiting for her or he just walks in (don’t remember which). AA Mateo enacts this whole jealous scene, getting on her case for sleeping with SO, blah blah blah. Mom bawls him out –with reason!— for spying on her and so forth. she tells him she has a right to have a life if she wants to. AA Mateo gets really crude and she ends up slapping him and ordering him to leave her house. he tries to insist that she should start dating him but she tells him she won’t do that to her sister. of course Auntie Ditz turns up just in time to hear this and wants to know what they’re talking about. either Mom or AA Mateo comes up with a variation on what they were really arguing about (the spying or whatever) to cover. Mom stomps off, leaving AD to deal with AA Mateo for her own part. AD ends up slapping AA Mateo as well. as i already posted, YAY MOM, for giving AA Mateo a well-deserved set-down. and while i’m not so sure the smack from AD was quite as merited on this particular occasion, overall he probably deserves it anyway...

*the Random Bad Guys call Frosted Blond Bad Guy and tell him about the club being blown up and the ID card they found. as Gus had intended, they believe it is the work of rival Narcos. FBBG is furious. he gets his underlings to work doing preparatory type stuff, but tells them to hold off any retaliations until he's checked with "The Associate." i think he calls DD and tells him about the club being bombed. oh, and FBBG reminds Ex-Yellow Tie to make sure that he and all the Underlings are very clear that under NO circumstances is Jailbait to be allowed back into the house, the tacky rodeo bar, or any of his other properties.

*Esteban the Unstable tells Vero he still loves her and wants to get back together. things can be the way the used to be. unseen by Vero and EtU, Marcela the Pushy hears this and doesn't look happy. Vero tells EtU she isn't looking for a relationship right now -- all she cares about is finding the people who murdered her baby. that is her whole focus, and all she's interested in. You'll come back to me, says EtU, I can wait....

*Vero goes to find Chepe and tells him she wants to work. Chepe tells her she's still too weak to go back on active duty and Vero pleads with him to give her anything, even a desk job. she has to work or she'll go crazy, she says. she suggests he give her all the Gus files and she'll start going through them. she can even do that from home, where it will be more restful, instead of at HQ. Chepe agrees.

*DD talks to Jailbait and snows her that he cares about Tony the Brat. he convinces her the kids should stay on at the house. he tells her she reminds him a lot of Mummy María when she was Jailbait's age. he keeps petting her hand, and there is some conversation where he gets Jailbait to agree that she doesn't think age matters as long as people are in love, but i was so revolted at that point i didn't catch all of it. before leaving he convinces Jailbait not to mention his visit to TtB.

*MM tells TtB how she's completely broken all ties with DD and tries to get him to come home. TtB refuses and tells her about how DD is letting him and Jailbait stay at the hideout. he clearly thinks of this as proof that DD does care for him after all.

*MM goes to Father Anselmo to vent about TtB and how DD has managed to snow him, etc. (didn't catch all of this).

*right after MM leaves, Gus catches FA in his church and tells him, in rather vague terms, how a lot has been going on in his life and he’s going pretty crazy with it. he also tells FA that “Cíntia” is not his wife’s real name – it’s Veronica and she’s a cop. FA pricks up his ears at that and asks Gus for Vero’s last name. Gus is getting impatient and doesn’t understand why FA wants to know but he tells him anyway. Gus leaves, leaving FA with a lot to think about.

*TtB goes back to the hideout. Jailbait doesn't tell him about DD's visit. she says she's bored and suggests getting some drugs. they leave to go buy some.

*Vero is at home going through the various Gus files she got from Chepe, both on a laptop (presumably Gus' laptop, confiscated when the O-Team 'detained' him after San Diego?) and actual paper files. she’s going through some stuff on the laptop and finds the e.mail that was sent to Gus (this is why i think it’s Gus’ laptop) with the pix of her and Suzy and the threat that Gus’ life insurance doesn’t cover his “perritas.” she calls Chepe and requests she be sent the rest of the info on Suzy. while she's waiting for it to be delivered, DD comes in. he's particularly smug and pleased with himself. she explains, briefly, how she's working on O-Team stuff at home, but he's too full of his news to pay much attention. he tells her, like she hasn't just explained that she's working to try to find her kidnappers, that soon she won't have to bother with this trivial stuff any more. he's heard from three law firms –all out of the country (in NY and Miami, if i remember correctly)— who want to hire her immediately. AND before she goes to start interviewing, he's got tickets for them both to take that vacation in the Greek Isles that they've always talked about. i think he says the plan leaves tomorrow or something. anyway, he finally notices that she’s not quite as thrilled as he’d hoped she’d be, and tries to get a more enthusiastic and grateful response. just then the paperwork she’d been waiting for arrives and, looking at it, she tells DD that it was just as she’d thought all along: Gus’ recent behaviour was all a lie, a part Gus had been playing to try to keep her away from him in order to protect her. she’s excited and relieved and happy. DD is appalled. she shows him the “perritas” e.mail and DD can’t think of something he can say to her to change her mind, so he doesn’t even try. instead, he tells her he just has to make a quick call or something. he tells her not to go anywhere, he’ll be right back.

*DD heads for his study and tries to call Junior, but he isn’t getting any answer. this is because Junior, now that he’s over at the hideaway loveden, has apparently turned off his cel. he and Suzy are eating (dinner? lunch? who knows. it’s still daytime, tho, so i’ll go with lunch), which Suzy has cooked. she spoons tomato sauce over something and Junior happily eats. he is pleased, because he thinks this is a sign Suzy’s attitude toward him is softening. he compliments what she’s wearing (tight black shirt and black shorts or underwear), saying she looks good in black. almost offhandedly, Suzy asks, What if she’d put something in the food to kill him...? Junior immediately spits out what he’s got in his mouth into his napkin. he asks her what she put in and when it would start to take effect – an hour? a day? he gets out his gun and says he’ll just shoot himself now, so he can determine the manner of his own death. then he stops for a moment, thinking. finally he puts the gun back, looks at her and starts eating again, saying something about happily spending the rest of the time left to him to live looking at her. (or something, i didn’t catch all of this, either.) Suzy breaks down and tells him she tried to add something but in the end couldn’t go through with it. she starts to cry, and falls into his arms. tentatively at first, he hugs her back, then starts to kiss her head and face. she lets him kiss her, and even kisses him back. he picks her up and carries her over to the bed (altho she’d had the leg-leash on when she was alone, it would seem he took it off after he arrived). he puts her down on it and they continue kissing. he starts to take off her shirt and tho we can see he would stop at the first sign of resistance from her, there is none. instead, she takes off his shirt. they continue kissing passionately and it seems likely things will go further...

*FBBG, Ex-Yellow Tie, and some other underlings are in a car on the street, spying on Jailbait and TtB as they are buying drugs. and no, i have no idea how they knew the kids would be there or anything. i also don’t know why. i think E-YT asks if they should just take out (the dealer? the kids?) then and there, and FBBG tells him to wait until the (dealer? the kids?) leave. at any rate, he gets a call from Gus, who is putting another phase of The Plan into effect. Gus tells FBBG that he’s been thinking about it and now that they’re business partners, he’s going to return their $30 million to them. only not all at once. it will be in installments, spread out over a long period of time. he starts to tell FBBG something about cars, but FBBG interrupts and tells Gus they’ll have to discuss it later or something.

*Inés the Extremely Tiresome goes to see her Witch Doctor, who has turned out to be someone who actually gives her sensible advice, and so has joined the ranks of tolerable tertiary characters. he may be a bit weird in his methodology but the main thrust seems to be pretty on-target (yay for him. for now, at least). i missed at least some of this conversation as well, however. i think he mostly encouraged her to get on with her life, rather than letting old grudges hold her back. ItET seems to have been having dreams about Gus being in danger and she’s still really really in love with him. WD tells her she will continue to have these dreams and feelings for a while, and –i think— that she basically just has to learn to live with them and they will eventually subside or go away. he said something about a sort of guardian angel. as he’s saying all this, he’s fluffing around her with a great big piece of some plant that is feathery like dill is. later he gives her a blessing or something using a live bird. whatever. later, after ItET gets home, she thinks she hears a knock, but when she –a bit unnerved— goes out to check on it, it isn’t repeated. instead, her bathroom door blows shut behind her. oddly, this doesn’t seem to disconcert ItET as much as it probably would have me in the same situation.

*since putting together the pieces about Gus lying to protect her, Vero obviously hasn’t been paying much attention to what DD said, as, soon after he left her alone in her room, she left herself, even though he’d told her to wait for him.

*DD comes back to Vero’s room and is annoyed to find her gone. he returns to his study and, balked of his attempts to reach Junior, instead calls Corrupt Government Secretary. he tells CGS he wants him to have an O-Team member removed from the squad for associating with a suspect and i forget what-all else. that squad member’s name is Veronica Vega. yes, he is talking about his daughter
