A study by a Canadian anthropologist demonstrated that 97 percent of
women
shut their eyes during a kiss but only 37 percent of men did. The late
actor
Anthony Quinn had an explanation: "Many a husband kisses with his eyes
wide
open. He wants to make sure his wife is not around to catch him."
Kissing on the lips is something the Romans started. A husband
returning
from work would kiss his wife's lips to see if she'd been drinking
during
the day. In fact, the Romans were so keen on kissing that Emperor
Tiberius
was obliged to ban the practice after an epidemic of lip sores.
The French kiss itself was invented in the Brittany village of Pays de
Mont
as a substitute for sex because the population was growing too fast.
In writing, XXX's have been used to represent kisses. The origins of
this go
back to the days when people couldn't write signed their name with an
X. To
emphasize their sincerity, they would then kiss their mark. This
practice of
kissing the X led to the X's representing a kiss.
Human beings are not the only mammals that kiss. Polar bears and
kangaroos
kiss. Chimpanzees can and do French kiss. Sea lions rub mouths, a male
mouse
licks the mouth of a female mouse, and an elephant sometimes brushes
its
trunk against another elephant's lips.
An American insurance company discovered that men were less likely to
have a
car accident if they were kissed before they set off.
Germans rub noses, as do a good many other peoples. Polynesians like a
nose
rub but also enjoy the mitakuku, which involves biting hairs from
eyebrows.
Trobriand islanders bit each other's eyelashes. In China they touch
each
other's cheeks and then sniff.

No fun here !
Been sick as a dog for the past three weeks. Just the "crud" which seems to be going around. Was forced to seek medical assistance last week when I could no longer breathe sitting upright. Just a couple more meds and a nebulizer.
The weather her is georgous! 60's at night and 70's during the day. However, I go from bed to my recliner. It may be summer before I feel up to going outside.

My Grandmother had a stent procedure yesterday afternoon and I was told she came through with flying colors. They plan to put in another at some point but don't know when or why it wasn't done at the same time, I'm guessing it could be due to her age?!?!?!?!

John,
I'm still here. Jill, I think you have sent your NW weather to us. This is supposed to be our dry season. However, we had rain three days last week and it appears that it will be a duplicate this week. Not that I am complaining. After the fires of 98; I will no longer complain when we do receive it.
Have a great week !

Last night on the news they showed Death Valley in California and it was fields of color from all the flowers blooming. They normally get 2" of rain a year & this year they had 6" so after decades of being dormant the seeds sprouted, it was a beautiful sight!
California & states like yours have our rain......we were declared in a 'drought' earlier this week so it may be one long dry summer for us! Our main problem was the snow pack melted in our warm temps & the rain gage was a little short too.

Quick question. My husband gets vague chest discomfort after eating chocolate and other fatty foods but if doesn't eat them he is fine.
Why would this happen?
Posted on Mar 7, 2005, 6:42 AM from IP address 68.197.27.152
When i eat fatty foods my chest starts acting up and so does the neuropathy in my feet and ankles.Since a nitro pill( which opens up the arterys) takes care of the problem i would guess it is to much fat in the bloodstream.

We eat a lot of hot peppers and when you make yourself a hot cup of soup with them it will open up your nasal passagages and give you some relief. We use habenero, they can eaither be like eating toast or HOT FIRE but it works & it'a a great way to get your vitamin C.
When if doubt call your doctors nurse, they should be able to help!!

Years ago when an out of state brother in law was visiting we got to talking about eating hot peppers. Well he states they never get to hot for him and do not even bother him. With that i went out to the garden and picked one and handed it to him.It brought tears to his eyes and much consumption of water and no more bragging on that subject. : )

We have had the almost exact encounter with a family member! By the time it was over he was tearing up & red-faced!
I always think it's interesting that you can buy a handful of peppers and use one & it has no heat to it.......so you cook another day and put in 2 and by the next day you wish you hadn't!!! hehe
We love them and like I said they are great for colds & a super source of vitamin C. Jack likes to put them in his coffe.....not me! Yikes!

A couple of years ago I set out a dozen each habanero and cayenne pepper plants. Habanero has good heat but cayenne has great flavor. I made so much pepper sauce that I sill have a couple of gallons remaining. Next time I will only do a couple of plants each.
I gave my next door neighbor some of the habanero peppers. He put them into a bottle of vodka to make pepper vodka. Then, even chilled, it was then too hot to be consumed.

In New Orleans cooking, bell pepper is 1/3 of the "trinity". Onions, Celery and Bell pepper. I use this same "trinity" in my southern, red neck, Florida Cracker style of cooking. 2 or 3 times per year I will even steal that yankee dish and stuff a few of them with a mixture of corn bread dressing or rice with chicken, ground turkey, shrimp or imitation crab meat. I generally only use the green ones. They are cheaper. I will sometimes purchase the other colors if I am preparing some colorful "Tex-Mex" dish.

But we can't get past the aroma or flavor of them...LOL
The yellow, green & red all look nice but like I said the only taker in this house is baby......she usually picks out a yellow one when given a choice.
We use jalapeno peppers in the philly cheese steaks...oh so good!

I never cared for vodka even when I was "a drinkin man." I thought my neighbor who is Polish, was foolish to waste good peppers. However, since I had far more than I had any use for; I gave them away to any/everyone who would accept them. <G>

Hello to you old friends and new ones. Thanks for thinking about me. I am doing well 2 1/2 years post heart transplant. I had my check-up on Valentine's Day, showed no signs of rejection and no other problems. The doctor's say I'm their poster girl. I don't have to go back for another biopsy for 4 months. I am staying busy still volunteering with our transplant awareness group and serving as the Georgia Transplant Foundation Mentor coordinator for Emory University Hospital. To the newbies, I was diagnosed with CHF/Dilated cardiomyopathy in 1994, experienced sudden cardiac death, had 3 ICD's, maxed out on all the "right" medications, before having my transplant evaluation. I listed on June 13, 2002, was hospitalized July 19 until I received my heart which came on August 3. I am very lucky to have received my gift of life in time. If I can be of any help to anyone, either post here or just email me direct. Hope you all are doing well. We had a great holiday season and Tony and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary in January. I am staying busy with speaking engagements and playing the organ at my church, and camping with my family.

I have been on Coreg since 1997. For many of us, it is a difficult drug for our bodies to adjust to. Some folks may take up to 2 years to reach recommended dosage. With each increase I felt terrible. Likewise, you or your loved ones should stick with it. If you have CHF, Coreg has proved to extend mortality. That in itself was enough motivation for me.
I feel the same way about taking COQ 10. Autopsies of heart patients reveal they all have low COQ 10 level. Even tho I have observed none of loudly proclaimed benefits; I still take mine every day.
Posted on Feb 5, 2005, 10:01 AM from IP address 199.232.240.189
Great advice Tom. I also take "CO-Q10" and I
can say, I did see a difference in my energy
level after only 2 weeks of it.
Might I add to this, I had my "ICD" inserted
about 2 months ago and this gave me at least,
50% more energy! The technology today is
amazing, to say the least!

My Cardiologist has suggested that we "look into" having a pacemaker implanted. I am such an obstinate, ornery old man; he knows that is the best way to deal with me. Apparently, he thinks it might prevent sudden death. Last year I wore a 24 hour holter monitor which did not pick up any unexpected activity. Thus, I feel this is premature.
The purpose of this tirade, is tell everyone to take control of your own heath care. Find out as much as you are able to absorb about this sinking ship we are all aboard. Only then, can you intelligently discuss with your doctors, your treatment options.
Posted on Feb 7, 2005, 7:23 AM from IP address 4.235.66.216
I believe you might want to rethink your decision. The only way to really know if you need a defribilator is to have needed it and died. I'm sorry to be so blunt but it's true. I got one and, for a year, I wondered if it had been a bad decision. But then when it kicked me, I knew that the doctor had been right.
This is a very simple and almost painless procedure. I stronly belive that the doctor knows what he is talking about in this situation.
Posted on Feb 11, 2005, 2:17 PM from IP address 24.116.144.51
I appreciate your concerns! It is imperative that we each inform ourselves regarding our illness. It is only after self education; can we intelligently discuss our particular situation with our Doctors. Then in conjunction with our Doctors, we can jointly reach decisions with which we are comfortable.
Many folks do not want to know. They just visit their Doctor, follow his instructions and take what ever medications he/she prescribes. If this adequate for them; it is their decision.
As my health declines, there are fewer and fewer things over which I have any control. As long as I have my somewhat limited mental capabilities; I will make the final decisions regarding my health situation. When I need assistance regarding legal, financial or heath issues I seek out a professional. I discuss the circumstances and seek direction. Based upon what I have learned; I make the decision with which I am comfortable.
Perhaps at some point I will reconsider a defibrillator.
I Thank You !!

I, too, have had several holter monitor sessions with nothing showing up even though I was pressing the event button and "feeling" things. So this time, I said fine I will take one more but never again if it shows nothing. Doc told me it is a new improved version and lo and behold when I wound up in the hospital before the results came back.. He came back from the office after admitting me and said the holter shows you were in vtack several times... so ask for the new holter that is more sensitive than the old ones.

Hi Susan,
I have been on Coreg for about 9 months now and am
(after trial and error) finially used to it. I too had
so many, dizzy and sleepy symptons from this. Then I tried
to see why,,At first, at the doctors recomendation, I took my morning dosage of "Lasix" with it. Then I found, if I ate a spoon of "Peanut Butter" in the morning
first and took the "Lasix" about an hour, after the "Coreg", I
did not get the ugly reaction from it.
"Coreg" is a great drug for "CHF" and once your dads system gets "used" to it, he will feel the benifits. Good Luck to you both!
