....One can begin with The Roman Hat Mystery, travel forward to Halfway House, pass by Calamity Town, stop for a moment before Cat of Many Tails, and stand, with a puzzled frown, in front of And on The Eighth Day, and own experiences a combination of awe and deep respect.
Pick up any copy of EQMM, and one appreciates the universality of his taste, his deep knowledge and depth of critical insight - and, once again, there is a combination of awe and respect. The anthologies he edited over the years is not only the American Mystery story, but the world's creations as well.
His impact will be with us for years to come...

Bob--

Shouldn't you mention Francis M. (Mike) Nevins' two books on Queen if you're talking about lengthy studies--or at least send people to look up Nevins on amazon.com, if they are interested in long studies? The one on Queen's radio plays has recently been released in an updated version.

Nevin's ROYAL BLOODLINE is a good start but I wish he would update it because some of his statements and insights have to re-examined in light of revelations made in THE TRAGEDY OF ERRORS (a wonderful collection of essays and other writings) published by Crippen & Landru in 1999. The definitive Queen critical biography has yet to be written.

I agree about the importance of the book from Crippen and Landru. I have seen a chapter by Mike Nevins on the paperbacks published as by EQ which were ghosted (and revised by Lee). I hope Mike will make it part of a revised ROYAL BLOODLINE.
