I don't think I've ever had a proper lucid dream before, but i had a strange dream experience a few nights ago. I was in the back of a limo and I suddenly (for no apparent reason) realised that I was dreaming. I was so excited that I jumped out the door into the street and was jumping up and down, telling everybody. I then decided to try to fly, and I could, but only a couple of feet off the ground and at walking pace. It seemed a lot of effort so I decided to walk and i somehow ended up in my family house. I was telling brother that I was dreaming and we were trying to produce some evidence that I was dreaming, which I could produce when I awoke. We got distracted by my parents who were nagging us to come to the table and eat. I then decided to wake up, firmly keeping in mind the fact that I had achieved a lucid dream......

I'm not sure if any part of that was a proper lucid dream, or even a pre-lucid dream. I think that after I was flying, then the dream somehow was more dreamish (eg believing that I had to eat dinner with my family!)... Does anyone have any ideas of what kind of dream that was? Am I getting close to having a real full lucid dream??

That was definitely a real lucid dream.

The fact that you were excited in the dream about being lucid gives it away.

The fact that you had difficulty flying also provides evidence it was a real lucid dream. If it had only been dreaming about being lucid, flying would have been easier.

Also, when lucid dreams go on for awhile, sometimes you start to sort of "forget" that it's a dream. For example, treating people like they're real and trying to provide evidence, eating dinner when you're told, etc.

For some reason, even when you know for certain it's a dream, there's a natural habit of interacting with people like they're real. People almost never really get over that feeling.

And dream characters love to disagree with you, and that tricks you into beleiving you are awake instead of dreaming...

When I have lucid dreams, I often wake up with a strong feeling that maybe I was only dreaming that I was lucid. However, you were indeed lucid in your dream.

I also get wrapped up in the dream after I become lucid, and sometimes forget that I'm dreaming. I remember spending a long period of time in one dream trying to leave behind some proof for my waking self that I had been in the kitchen while lucid. Kind of silly really.. to realise you are dreaming, but believe you can somehow affect the physical world to let your waking self know you were there.
