I have had the strangest dream (don't we often!). I am in a house, it looks medieveal, as there are white walls with balck beams and nothing 'modern' - it feels like going back in time. I am sat at a huge banqueting table, dressed in black (nothing unusual in that for me!). On the left is a lit fire in a huge fire place. Also on the left, at the head of the table is a quiet man in grey, he has a hood so I can't see his face. He is peeling apples and eating them. opposite is a young girl, who resembles me a little, she is dressed all in white. Everything else in the room is either black or white, the floor is black and white tiled. The girl goes up the stairs, that are opposite the table. She stops and says 'We've tried to understand the positivity and negativity in everything, I'll show you around'. I follow her up the stairs, it's like a square spiral staircase that gets narrower as it goes up. At the top is a small shrine. The girl says 'And here is the black madonna'. She pulls back a red curtain over the shrine which is lit with candles, and there is a picture of the Virgin Mary, her face is black (not as if she is a black person, but as if they have just used black paint instead of white... I hope no-one finds that comment offensive ... ). I seem to stare at the picture for ages. We then go back downstairs. The man in grey is now standing up but I still can't see his face. He is no longer eating apples, but there is now a big dish of green apples on the table where he sat. He looks at me, but for some reason I still can't see mich of his face, he puts his finger to his lips and says 'Shhhhh'! smiles, and then he diappears in a split second. I am left looking at the fire as I realise that the other girl has gone to and I am in the house on my own, lloking for patterns in the fire.
I'd love someone to help me with this one! I usually do alright in interpreting dreams, and although I can grasp the positive/ negative/ black / white thing - I'm quite confused by this one! I should also mention that I am not Christian, and so I don't know what significance to place on the strangely black madonna, someone once told me that black madonnas were quite popular in Europe at some point!
The hooded man brings to mind the card of the hermit in tarot. A time for instropection and retreat. Apples on a physical level are powerful cleansers and detoxifiers of our bodies, dispelling viruses. On a more symbolic level they are associated with change and rebirth. Letting go of the old self to bring in a new self. They form a game used in Halloween, which we are approaching. Halloween signifies our descent into the underworld to face our fears, limitations and outdated beliefs so that we may transform them and become more like our real selves. The underworld is governed by Hecate in Mythology, or as in your case the black madonna. Hecate teaches us to face our fears with success.
The child in resemblance of yourself dressed in white and ascending a square spiral staircase highlights the need to connect with the higher-self/divine guidance/spirit guides etc, whilst being grounded and also to ground the insights we gain into our reality, hence the square.
Black is symbolic of change and transformation also, some like to say death. It contains all possibilites, white reflects this.
It is time for your to journey into your inner world, which is appropriate as it is Autumn and a time of hibernation.
That makes alot of sense - I can see the resemblance between the man in grey and The Hermit...
Your interpretation makes alot of sense - now's the time of year when I always start to learn new things and concentrate on developing psychic skills etc.
