Okay-what is this about? Sometimes I am totally awake, I can hear stuff, smell stuff, etc, but my body refuses to move and I cant open my eyes-it is a bit freightning at times-usually in the morning-anyone else get this? It freaks me out everytime.
i use to get them all the time...i hated them. i found out that it is a sleep disfuction. it is almost like a siezure. i take klonipin to control it. every since i have started taking the drug i have not had them anymore. i didnt know what was wrong with me. i also felt as if i were being sucked down a tunnel or something. and i felt as if i didnt strain every muscule in my body to pull myself out of it or i felt i would die.
I'm not sure on this but on a different note I forever heard gun shots right when I drifted off to sleep (very loud as if they were very close to me). Furthermore, I would wake in the night with the feeling of being shocked. Current, 115 volts or more flowing through my body. Sometimes it would take several minutes to stop. Electricution is no fun either. Just the same, clonipin stopped this as well. My first electrical experiance I wrote about a couple of pages back titled (the first of many) I think. There were no comments. It was the most real dream I ever had. To bad it's not in line with any thing we know. I think you need to see a doctor about this disorder. Not that I am trying to leed you to drugs or anything but sometimes drugs are better than the problem.
Hi!
sleep parallasis is my forte, whatever you want to know ask me as I have,I'm sure, lived the reality of this 'reality'.
I got so intuned with my 'sleep parallisis' that I could even corriograph it's outcome,to a point.
Yes, it can be frightening, but at the end of it all WE are the only person who can control what is infiltrating our subconscience and with experience one can take control
my mum also gets this, not all of the time but when it does happen to her it really frightens her. She feels as though she is awake, but she cant move and also her mouth is always 'stuck' so she tries to scream but nothing comes out. Once when this was happening to her she looked to the end of the bed and an old woman was sitting there..? This is something I have never experienced before.
Although when Im laying in bed trying to sleep, when Im really relaxed I sometimes hear a burst of very loud music..its so loud that it makes my heart jump? Also while I was laying in bed the other night, I had my eyes closed and my boyfriend must have turned the tv off in the front room..well I got a really strange bright orange line of light go accross my eyes? Its hard to explain..??
but when you mentioned that your mum was paralyzed but saw an old lady looking at her, makes me think that she was accidentally crossing a dimension/time zone, her vision worked but she could not speak or move to interact with the other person, or maybe hte other person entered your mom's time/space, bringing the paralysing effect for a little while?
NB although science fiction goes on about Dimensions, time zones, blah blah you've got to bear in mind that each thing that has been proposed by sci-fi writers has eventually come to pass.......as science facts.
The way most scientists see this strange phenomenon is that sleep paralysis usually happens as the 'dreamer' is just leaving or entering 'sleep'.
It is to do with the brains natural mechanism that blocks normal signals to the muscles during the REM period - preventing the sleeper from physically acting out dreams.
They suggest that there may be a missed connection between the two events at that the dreamer realises consciousness while still in the 'cut out' zone.
I know from my own experience of this twilight zone - which is quite extensive, that if the brain wakes to the realisation of a body part/limb being numb then it must rectify that problem. Unfortunately, there is no way to relieve say, numb feet, because nothing else is working either. This produces a hallucinagenic effect as the brain goes into overdrive wondering what the problem could be.
My own theory is that once it has sorted out the memory cells and cannot recollect a plausable explanation, the brain then decides to improvise.
'my feet are dead - I have not had an accident so there must be someting/someone sitting on them'
Then I believe that the 'imagination' department takes over and the rest is usually a 'living' nightmare - especially with my imagination.
The interesting thing to me is that all the ensuing dramas that then take place are fear/terror motivated.
This must be a special locked department to the brain -if only we could tap into the euphoric department by the same means then drugs would go out the window for good. I could go on for hours on this subject because I know it so well, but I'll pause for response at this point to give anyone reading this a breather.
I dont have kids, but I hear htat little kids have terrifying nightmares, healthy, happy well cared for kids have these, so where does it come from? maybe genetic memories of (prehistoric) monsters trying to eat us?
Maybe the chemicals of the brain usually induced by drugs - uppers/downers- go into a freeflow or slushing out cleaning process while we sleep. After all everything else gets reprogrammed at that time.
This is my theory that if caught in a dream when this is happening then happy or sad thoughts will influence our sleep.Sometimes we can wake on a perfectly good morning and then we realise that something really bad happened the day before that had been completely 'packed away' overnight. That sudden realisation brings a rush to the senses that I'm sure everyone has had at sometime. It's as though the brain has sorted out what would be bad for the nerves/organ functions and put it in storage. Afterall if the nerves get over stressed, the heart misfunctions and Mr Brain could soon be out of a job he was depending on for life!
