I had just moved into my new apartment and I dreamed that I was asleep and woke up in the middle of the night, there was a man, and although I couldn't see his face I could feel he was looking at me and that he was an older person, he had a dark suit on , I wasn't afraid, but I turned to the other side and when I looked back it was gone. It was very real and I'm not even sure it was a dream. As I said I wasn't afraid, but it startled me. I've never had that dream again, but I haven't been able to forget it. What can it me

Anonymous, who knows? Several times this has happened with me, the most notable being three kind-of bland faced girls, one of which was'nt actually seen as such (so count that as two plus one) - (I was aware the other one was there). Also an old woman, and so too a young girl who looked at me with an expression of what can only be descibed as "what are you doing here?". No, I'm not a spiritualist, who knows?

If you really don't think that this was a dream then it may be what is known as a 'hypnopompic hallucination'. Google it for info; however this is a medical term for what may have happened to you. I have had these all my life and they can be human forms or just shapes and occasionally accompanied by sound. I personally believe that what you probably saw was a spirit. But as you said, you are not sure if it was a dream or not. I find that certain areas of my house can produce this type of apparition more often than other places. For example, my house isn't that old (approx 40 years) but in the bedrooms I have seen human forms many times during the night. This is not the same as being fully awake and seeing what might appear as a ghost! It only happens when you have been asleep a while and you wake - very suddenly - and see something perhaps moving toward you, or around the room. Usually it fades as you stare at it, or if you look away it has then disappeared by the time you look back. I have a converted attic room which is the most peaceful to sleep in, because I believe that you are visited by the spirits in the most used rooms of the house, i.e the rooms which were always bedrooms. In the attic room I only see lights and coloured shapes, never human figures, and it is much more comforting than waking to find someone standing over you!

You may find that this happens to you again - if it does then visualize a golden protective bubble around you before you go to sleep. Spirits only 'home in' on the psychic. If you accept that they will try to get your attention whilst you are at your most receptive, then you can also block it out to get a good nights rest! The most important thing is not to be afraid, as they will not hurt you! They are just curious that you are able to see them!

Hope this is of some help!

Well Elle, thats interesting, though this thing about spirits is worrying. If as you say these lights are spirits, what is to be made of an oval white light seen in a bedroom some years ago? No light was coming from around or under the closed door, no way could there have been a reflection upon the wall and any light from outside was eliminated by passing completely across the curtains to see if this affected the the "shape" at all. Returning to my bed and actually "hiding" for a few minutes, the next time I looked it had gone. This has always been puzzling.

Shape - I can't give you any answers as to what you saw, but I have experienced a white ball of light above me when I was younger. It frightened me at the time, as I didn't really understand what was going on. Now I take it all for granted as I am so used to being woken up by lights (which look a bit like Christmas tree lights) circling above me, or funny shapes which I think I can reach out and touch! My sister in law has much more experience in psychic matters then me, and she helped me to understand that what I was going through was perfectly normal for a psychic person - and therefore I was able to relax and get a good nights rest without if bothering me too much. Now when I wake up and see them I easily drift off back to sleep instead of getting up & turning the light on to convince myself I am not crazy
