Ok, I've made individual Movie/TV threads....coz the other one was taking too long..
I LOVE NATHAN PHILLIPS!!!
I Take Away and it was excellent! In the typical aussie comedy sort of way - really simple story, with really average aussies - VERY FUNNY! It stars two of my faves - Stephen Curry (The Castle) and Nathan Phillips (Australian Rules) both of whom were brilliant- as always. Stephen Curry's character Trev is vile! And he says No Wuckas - so I loved that!!!! And Nathan's character Dave is just adorable - awwwwww! SO much nicer than his footy player character in Something In The Air...awww he's such a cutie!
But it also stars 2 actors I don't like much usually - Vince Colosimo and Rose Byrne - but they were both great too. Rose didn't giggle much, which made her less annoying...ANyway, it's about 2 Take Away fish and chip shops, who are rivals but then a multinational burger store comes along, and basically they're business are screwed (Or "rooted" as they put it) It's totally taking the piss outta places like McDonald's - I think Maccas will be VERY unimpressed at a few parts of the film...it's soooo right tho! It reminded me so much of the days when a couple of my mates worked at Maccas!
AND LMAO Lou! You know how in Join Me, Hanne tells Danny that instead of drinking coke, he'll probably drink fanta coz there's "fruit" in it??? Exact same comment in the movie...totally cracked me up - much to the horror of everyone else at the movies I think!
My fave part of the movie is the very beginning when they explain how take away fish and chips came to be - SO FUNNY! And gorgeous Nathan taking Rose "disco bowling" - so cute!
That is the best scene Lou! Can u believe that not one of my fellow Year 11 classmates liked Ferris???????? Coz in the last week of term we'd have vids - and everyone else used to get to choose what we watched, so my best mate, and our friend Simon, and I campaigned to get Ferris - which I had at home and would save the school money lol! Anyway, we watched...Simon, Sarah and I laughing even though we'd seen it like 50 times - and no one else even mildly amused, except my creepy science teacher...I couldn't believe it! No wonder I didn't like many people in my year! LOL!
I have this thing for fanta - I always buy it, it makes me silly, then I remember I don't like it..lol
I didn't know what it was about before I watched it - and Paramount (Comedy channel) kept advertising it alongside Porky's Revenge of the Nerds and stuff like that which look absolute crap and full of unfunny lewd humour and stuff. So I thought it might be a bit like that.
but I figured on friday i'd watch the start of it anyway - coz there was nothing else on tv and i wanted to see mini alan ruck! lol
and well, it's about as far from porky's as possible! (well, i've only ever seen the ads for porkys, but if they pick the best clips then it's really not gonna be good film at all!)
LOVE FERRIS!!!
And damn ferris's cheeky grin..........
I really really really wanna go watch that film again now but I must resist!! I must!!!
I watched a film called It Had To Be You last night, starring Michael Vartan (alias guy) - and it was sooooooooo sweet and romantic it made me feel ill. It was way too predictable but nice...it's about this guy and girl who are both in NY to plan their weddings, end up staying in same hotel and then doing all the wedding stuff together..and guess what happens???? (I'm not ruining the plot here...that's pretty much what the cover said lol)
And today I watched a brilliant film called Tape, starring Ethan Hawke and Robert Sean Leonard (awww they were in Dead Poets together!) and Uma Thurman - it's shot like a play (which is originally what it was) all in a motel room (stuff like that usually irritates me but this was awesome) with 3 high school friends catching up and talking about and incident from the past - Ethan is this totally manic nutter and is brilliant at it! I loved this film!
My best friend came over tonight and we had the movie marathon of 3 of our fave films -
Good Will Hunting - based on my love for Matt and her love for the Affleck brothers. We used to hire this so often that the vid store guy advised us to buy a copy to save ourselves money lol!
Ferris Bueller's Day Off - our fave movie since we were about 11 years old - we know it off by heart but still laugh out loud!
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back - we love all Kevin Smith's but this is the silliest and so after a few drinks, this one was our pick!
I also watched an aussie film called Walking On Water today, about a group of friends (including Vince Colosimo) after the death of one of their best friends. Great film but sooooo depressing.
I saw The Italian Job today and LOVED it! I'm a big Mark Wahlberg, Ed Norton, Charlize Theron and Seth Green fan so this was a must see, despite it being not my kind of film at all. I'm not a big fan of car chases- but this movie does it well. Mark Wahlberg is excellent as the confident and lovely leader of the group, and Charlize is brilliant as kick arse thief girl!
It's funny though how they are the good guys everyone wants to see win - even though their thieves lol! It's like Ocean's 11 - everyone hates poor Andy Garcia's character....and all he's trying to do is keep his own cash lol!
I may have missed bits of the film tho....studying the back of a gorgeous footballers head..lol joking...
I started watching Abandon tonight (katie holmes, benjamin bratt and charlie hunnam) but halfway through I realised that I really didn't care what the outcome of this boys mysterious disappearance was....the film was just irritating me something chronic..so I didn't watch the end. I have only done that a few times before in my life - with things like Guesthouse Paradiso and Monkeybone - so it's a pretty big thing for me to not bother watching the end of the film! I might try it again in the morning before I return it. I like Katie Holmes but she was plain annoying in this film - an even more overachieving highly strung version of Joey Potter (who woulda thought that was possible???)
So after abandoning Abandon I watched Army Intelligence (or as the US call it Renaissance Man) - I love that movie! Danny De Vito is very funny and awwww young Mark Wahlberg's first role! Then I watched the second half of a film I love - Sleeping With The Enemy...omg that movie still freaks me out, that husband is such a pig...good film though!
Ok, so while it may appear that I have stalker tendencies....I PROMISE I'm not stalking footy boys at the cinema LOL! (Yesterday was v. exciting - Morgs AND ex Port boy Mark Harwood..YAY!) I think it's coz my cinema is the only big Western Suburbs one, and that's where most of the boys live...so YAY they go to my cinema lol! But if we happen to go to the movies and don't see anyone exciting lol I have plan B- Power Movie night, where one boy presents a movie and has a Q&A session and autograph session....but which is also usually attended by loads of the boys just there for moral support...or to irritate him lol! I haven't been in ages coz I'm usually shopping on Thurs nite, but it could be a good idea for us to go Lou! LOL!
But yeah, after that long winded answer...I guess footy life in Oz is pretty laid back lol!
I saw Down With Love this arvo, and it’s a very cute movie! It’s very clever and well done too, but probably works better if you’ve seen the old films they’re re-creating. The 2 leads, Renee Zellweger and Ewan Mc are excellent – particularly Ewan as the very cool, suave and cocky ‘Catcher Block’ – I LOVE that name lol! And Sarah Paulson (who I’ve just realized was my fave girl in Jack and Jill..grrr drove me mad all movie trying to work out who the hell she was!) was pretty good….but the star of the film was David Hyde Pierce – I love him! He was pretty much just Niles from Frasier, but Niles is such a great character, why wouldn’t you stick with it??
It’s the sort of film you watch with a smile on your face the whole time, and even though you know exactly where every single joke is going because you’ve seen it all before, you still laugh. The sets and music are great too – really felt like I was watching an old 60’s flick!
And ooooooo the footy question time thing sounds fun! LOL! We soooo have to add that to the list of things to do (is anyone actually keeping a list? coz i think we need to!)
I saw the new aussie film, The Rage In Placid Lake today (free tix) and it's brilliant! I absolutely loved it! It's muso Ben Lee's acting debut - and I've read reviews that have said he's crap, but the films great - but I thought he was excellent. He's not going to be a big star, film wise, but for this role as the troubled, picked on, confused individual - he's perfect! (And yay for the tiny cameo by his gf Claire Danes!) It's about a boy who's parents are hippies - his mum's a bit of a pain (played by English actress Miranda Richardson...who I can't see as being anyone but Queenie from Blackadder..lol I love her!), and his Dad, played by legend Gary McDonald. The poor boy is bullied by these 3 moronic boys at school who spend their high school years punching him and calling him "poofter" every day - and his only friend is this science obsessed girl called Gemma, played by Rose Byrne (who I have to admit I quite like these days..I'm slowly getting over her annoying me in Two Hands and EchoPoint...slowly..) - but he decides to reinvent himself as a 'normal' person and starts working in insurance - which shatters his parents (who despite claiming to believe the good old "anything you want to do, we support u" line, can't take the fact their boy's turned corporate, and poor Gemma feels like she's lost good old Placid. It's a very, very good movie that kinda has a go at the corporate world AND the hypocracy and pretentiousness of some of the "hippie" life...I loved it!
And today I put the directors comments on and watched Ferris from the parade scene all the way to the end with John Hughes talking about it. It's sooooo good!!!
I actually only really meant to watch the parade bit, and then stop. But I couldn't! LOL!
And the commentary is soooo interesting! LOL at the fact that when Matthew falls at the end of Twist and Shout he missed his cue and actually almost FELL - LOL that'd have been hilarious! And VERY un-Ferris like!!
And I love that they went to a REAL parade, and that those are people's REAL reactions to Twist and Shout. THat's sooooooooo cool.
Ijust love that film!!!
(I had a dream last night that me and Ferris were dancing on a wall both singing Twist and Shout, and then my business teacher came and told us to stop (which he probbly would, except bhe loves the beatles so maybe he wouldnt' - and hey that explains why it was him who told us off, coz i associate him with the beatles, oh my mind is clever!). but yeah it wasgood. I loves Ferris!!!!!)
John Hughes is my hero! I love that man!!! He's responsible for some of my all time fave films - Ferris of course, Baby's Day Out (Soooo cute!), National Lampoon's Vacation movies, Pretty In Pink, The Breakfast Club, 16 Candles - all my fave 80's movies basically...plus Home Alone, which I loved at the time! He is a legend!
HAs anyone seen the teen movie spoof, Not Another Teen Movie? The High School's called John Hughes High - I love that lol!
I've kinda had Finding Nemo fever for weeks and HAD to see it ASAP so I abandoned all TV committments tonight (well I set the VCR AND made sure I was home in time for The Bachelor - but that's impressive for me lol) and went and saw it - and absolutely loved it! I love the Pixar films - they're my fave animated films coz they look great and are really funny. Ellen Degeneres as Dory is sooooo Ellen - it's funny how u feel like you're really watching her - I love how the animated characters kinda become their voices - very cool!
And I loved its Aussieness - love the shark called Bruce, and love that he calls Dory a "sheila" - awful word but sounds sooo right coming outta the mouth of a shark called Bruce, particularly when it's Barry Humphries' voice. I loved hearing Eric Bana too, and of course Rove! YAY for Rove being in an animated film - that'd pretty much be his dream come true!
I love the fish in the fish tank - particularly the 2 total nutters, Flo and the one obsessed with Bubbles...awwwww. And the music playing when the "fish killer" little girl arrives is perfect! The seagulls are cool too - poor seagulls, does anyone out there like them?
I was sad at the start, thinking "I thought this was supposed to be funnnny?" but it turned out to be hilarious - i loved it!
My highlight? The turtle of course - any Turtle who sounds like Bill and Ted rules lol!
Oh I really wanna see that (I was on Rove's site yesterday and saw that he was in it). I can be the only person in the cinema yelling 'THAT'S ROVEY!!!!!!!!!!' LOL!! (would i get kicked out for that? LOL!)
I haven't watched Ferris at all today. I thought about it, but thought 'no, I don't want to spoil its magic by over-watching it'.
2. Nup, yelling "that's Rove" will not get u thrown out....but it will make ppl look at u funny....(I did it last night and ppl were like "oooookkkkkkk freak girl" although a few ppl were like "ohhhhhh it's Rove McManus" really quietly lol!)
I saw The In Laws yesterday - silly, fun crap but quite good lol! Michael Douglas is excellent as the manic psycho guy, and poor Albert Brooks is very funny as the quiet, innocent podiatrist who gets dragged into criminal activities - so funny! But the reason I so badly wanted to see it was of course, Ryan Reynolds - I adore him! He's such a sweetie in this - not in it enough tho! BUt I would have gone to see it even if he'd only been in it for 30 seconds lol! LOve him! Lindsay Sloane plays his fiance and she's excellent too - poor girl stressing over her wedding!
I also watched Bubble Boy. It looks and sounds AWFUL but I think Jake Gyllenhaal is a very talented actor, so I figured it wouldn't be the worst thing I've ever seen - and it's HILARIOUS! It's about a boy who has to live in a bubble, who has a VERY overprotective mum (Swoosie Kurtz is so funny - the best bits have her in them), and who falls in love with the girl next door and has to build a mobile bubble suit so he can get to her wedding and stop it - which sees him meet some strange characters - LOVE IT! VERY VERY VERY funny!
I watched Bring It On again last night (more Lindsay Sloane) - I love that film! Very funny - Kirsten Dunst has made some interesting film choices - I never expected her to become a teen movie star - but she's great! Eliza Dushku is great too - I'm a huge fan of her attitude lol! And of course Jesse Bradford...I reeeeaaaalllly like Jesse Bradford....
Which is why I then watched swimfan again last night lol! (That and coz Jen on Dawson's Creek referred to it, and I was like "ohhh haven't seen that in yonks) - the girl in that film is seriously twisted! (And Lou, I still can't help but focus on the Churchill's sticker lol!
"2. Nup, yelling "that's Rove" will not get u thrown out....but it will make ppl look at u funny....(I did it last night and ppl were like "oooookkkkkkk freak girl" although a few ppl were like "ohhhhhh it's Rove McManus" really quietly lol!)"
LOL! But in Australia people will KNOW who Rove is!!! In England it'll just be ME! LOL!
BUT - OOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Finding Nemo is out on October 10th!! YAY!
BUT I was soooo sad, coz in the thing I read it had a "voices" list, and Rovey wasn't on it LOL what are the chances???
He's the obnoxious crab near the end? LOL i loves that.
Hmmm.... I think maybe Sarah will go see it with me. We were gonna go and see Piglet's Big Movie but never got round to it.
I mentioned it to Sarah, and I'd just said that it was a new animated film and she said 'ooooo, is it about fish??' and i was like 'yes!!' and she was like 'yay i wanna see that!' LOL.
And then Ian was sitting across from us and he was like 'ooooo, is that Finding Nemo?' and I was like 'yes!!' and he was like 'ooooo i want to see that too!' LOL!
And then another friend wants to see it too!!!!
No one seems interested about Rove though.... sigh. I am.
I've watched 3 movies today (I love my movie marathon days! LOL)
First of all I watched Boogie Nights - which is a bit full on, but quite a good film. Unfortunately for me, my cousin dropped in for lunch while I was watching it and felt the need to tell my grandma that "Bec's watching porn" - which REALLY impressed her! My "It's not porn! It's about the porn industry" - didn't do much to put her at ease! Bloody Matt. Then he's tellin her about how it's "really very porn like" (I so coulda decked him...he knows exactly how to wind my grandma up lol) - coz he's seen it and my grandma didn't even tell him off! HAH! Don't u love gender based double standards???? Anyway, it's quite a good film - Mark Wahlberg is brilliant, as is Julianne Moore.
Then I watched a very quirky comedy (I LOVE quirky) called Best In Show - about dog shows and the dogs rather psychotic owners lol! I love movies made like docos - very silly! ANd I ADORE Eugene Levy! (Dad from American Pie) - He cracks me up. Seriously, that man could say anything and I'd laugh lol! OH and on an American Pie theme - Stifler's Mom's in it! LOL! So yep, that's funny in a major piss taking kinda way.
Finally, I watched HArdball - the supposed feel good Keanu Reeves "children are the meaning of life" film - but it was bloody depressing. It's very Mighty Duck like but heavier, and no where near as utterly brilliant lol! BUt I could watch Keanu in anything (I actually think I've seen everything he's ever been in lol) - and it wasn't a bad film. Depressing though.
Sarah and I watched Bridget Jones AGAIN for like the 50th time last night -I LOVE Colin Firth! So dumb tho coz we spent an hour trying to decide what to watch (at like 2 am lol) - and I probs have about 150 films on DVD/VID - and we pick the one we've seen loads of times - I'm such a repetitive person lol!
I have a new way to watch films from now on - have absolutely no expectations of goodness lol! The new Mark Wahlberg film, The Truth About Charlie, was a straight to vid release, and has got shocking reviews, but as I quite like Mark, and I felt like watching crap, I hired it today and REALLY enjoyed it. I like a good mystery and I didn't pick the twist in this at all (ashamed of myself lol!) - although since it's a remake my grandma kept smirking at me coz she knew what was going to happen lol! The best thing about this is that it comes with bonus disc - with the original film, Charade, starring Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn - which I'm now watching. It's pretty much EXACTLY the same so far! LOL!
I saw Legally Blonde 2 today - and it's dumb! I know the first one is hardly Einstein material, but it is funny - this one's just RIDICULOUS! I love silly crap, I really do, but I just couldn't get into this. The whole wedding part is kinda pointless - poor Luke Wilson was hardly even in it! I do love Reese though - she's excellent!
But just a dumb movie! I can't believe they're planning a 3rd!
I just watched the aussie film, Ned, and it's BRILLIANT! One of the funniest films I've seen in a long, long time - in a totally silly, totally wrong kinda way. It was written and directed (and stars) Abe Forsythe from Always Greener, and he's great as Ned Kelly, the guy who dreams of becoming a magician, and whose horse, Muffy, is really a pony - so cute! Pretty much all of his Always Greener co-stars are in the film, which is very cool!
It's one of those films that seriously makes u laugh out loud - the Survivor piss take is VERY funny, as is Nudge from Hey Dad popping around to the Kelly house and going "Gday Mr Kelly" - cracked me up! Ohhhh and the "talk to the hand coz the face ain't listening" bit made me laugh, and the boyband dancing while robbing a bank was silly but very funny!
It has an excellent cast - basically just a bunch of Aussie TV stars, and I loved it!
I watched Johnny English on Fri nite - I love Rowan Atkinson but it's pretty lame. Natalie Imbruglia was great tho! Hadn't seen her act in years! The best bit of the entire song was the Robbie Williams song at the beginning and end - so catchy! I just kept playing the credits over and over really loudly until my cousin rang from Melbourne, and told me to "turn the friggin tv down"..rude! LOL!
And I watched one of my fave movie - You Can't Stop The Murders - again - I LOVE IT! The Village People murder theme is sooooo ridiculous.
I saw Pirates Of The Caribbean today - LOVED IT! It's really well made, and Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp are brilliant! It's lots of fun, and really full on. Kiera Knightley is excellent too - even though I don't like her lol! It's definitely worth seeing..bloody long though!
"I just kept playing the credits over and over really loudly until my cousin rang from Melbourne, and told me to "turn the friggin tv down"..rude! LOL! "
Matt? And LOL!!!! How LOUD was the TV on?!?!??!??!??!?!!? I have a blobe here, and Adelaide is MMIIIIIIIILLLLLEEEEESSSSS from Melby!!!!! JEEZZUUSSS Rebecca!!!!! LOL!!!!
I have a Finding Nemo Q - how big is Rove's part?? does the obnoxious little crab come on and say 'what the?' and then leave again? Or does he come on and chat for a little while? Coz as I'll be seeing this film JUST for this part, it'd better be worth it! LOL! (Must find out if it's on at my brother's cinema... coz then i can get free tix with any luck)
LOL poor rovio now being known as "the obnoxious crab". hehehehehehe. tiz his own phraseology though!! LOL! I loves Rovey!! (not that this is a hint or anything, but I can't WAIT till i get my vid!!!! )
Is Rovey the crab that goes "yeah I've seen him. I'm not gonna tell you where though" (or something along those lines?) Coz that was in the trailer I saw for it today. but i think there were 2 crabs together. Remember I dunno what Rovey sounds like. The crab was DEFINITELY Aussie though.
Apparently Richard Kind (aka Paul in Spin City) is in it too. Yay.
I just watched Pirates of the Carribean. V V good film.
I'm an idiot. On Friday morning I was watching Bert, waiting for Idol's, so had to put up with Nick Giannopoulos interview. I can't stand him usually, but he was quite nice and he made this plea for ppl to support aussie films, then I felt bad that the only aussie film I had no intention of seeing at the movies was his newie, The Wannabes, so I talked Mum into seeing it with me this morn. What a fool I am! It's sooooo bad. When I read it was being made last year, I thought it sounded like crap, when I've read reviews in the past week, they've said it was awful - but I saw it anyway (coz some of my fave aussie films have been giving bad reviews before) - and it's possibly one of the worst things I have EVER seen!
First of all, Nick G CAN'T act. I don't know how I missed that fact before, but he seriously can't. He has one facial expression which is seriously annoying. He also can't write films - the plot was pissweak. ANd he can't direct - the film didn't flow at all and the scenes went on way too long.
Btw just in case u don't know the film is about these criminals who are planning to rob these rich ppl, by disguising themselves as children's performers (as u do) to get into the house, so they hire crap dancer Nick, but then they get famous...of course.
The rich ppl are based on Lang and Rose Hancock which was pretty funny (Lou, Lang was an old rich man who married this gold digging rude feral woman and then he died and the family continue to battle over money, and she's famous for nothing really) - but even the funny bit wasn't funny.
Anyway, back to the rest of the cast -
Isla Fisher - I thought she was bad in Home and Away, but obviously in the 7 or so years since she left she's worked on actually getting worse! SHOCKING! Good hair though.
Ryan Johnson - I think he's a cutie (lovely eyes) and his character wasn't too bad - there's only so much u can do with an Eminem wannabe rapper who grabs his crotch and says Bitch every 2 seconds.
Russell Dykstra - he's actually been in some good films so I have NO IDEA what made him go "OH YES!" when he read this script. He was by far the best actor in the film, and the best character, but that wouldn't have been hard.
Felix Williamson - I loathe him. He irritates me something chronic - he was okish in this though as some famous American actor pain in the bum.
Costas Kilias - who was Farouk in The Castle, and who I LOVED in that film - once again, I have no idea why he'd be in this rubbish - particularly given his character who was just AWFUL!
There were 2 highlights tho - Bert Newton is in it, at an Awards ceremony with bad American actor guy, and ROVE is in it for like 30 seconds! The Wannabes appear on Rove, so I was pretty excited lol!
The script was so bad tho - they perform at this party - fight and swear at each other and get kids to stick their middle fingers up - and instead of never being hired again, EVERYONE wants to hire them...oh yeah right ok that'd happen!
There's just a HUGE Nemo craze on in the UK at the moment!! Because the film was so HUGE in America, they're TOTALLY building it up... every single program in the world is doing stuff about it. Anything that might possibly mention fish or the sea, they're showing clips of Nemo. LOL!
But YAY coz the advert has Rovey's line in!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Tiz that what he really really sounds like, or is that his special Crab voice. LOL, I don't suppose many people have Special Crab Voices... but I gotta say, if I had to pick ANYONE who'd have one, it'd be our Rove! LOL!
Is it an Aussie film? Coz Nemo's dentist place overlooks Sydney Harbour Bridge... and Rove's in it.... but all the other guys are American right?
LOL nah it's pretty much Rove's voice...maybe crabbed up a bit!
Umm it's a US film but there's some aussies in it coz it's set in Oz - so the sharks are aussies (Love Eric Bana in it!), and the dentist, and the pelicans etc.
I was telling Sarah today all about my excitement of Rove's line being on the ad and stuff, lol. And I explained who he was too. So at least she'll understand when I get all hyper at the cinema! lol.
One of my friends said she loved the turtle, and I was like, no i love the crab best - it's ROVE! I love Rove! And she just looked at me and I was like 'you don't know who he is..... neither does anyone else in the country... but I do!!!' lol.
Sigh, poor me.
Yay only 8 days till it's released!! LOL. I'm so pathetic......
What makes a production company think a film in New Zealand, but pretending to be Oregan, USA, starring american actors and a former Neighbours star with a bad accent is a good idea?
And what made me hire it?
It's called When Strangers Appear, and stars that Barry guy from Seventh Heaven (yes, another sign that should have made me think twice about hiring it...), Radha Mitchell, who I know has gone onto be kinda successfullish in the US but who will always be Cath from Neighbours to me lol AND Josh Lucas (which answers the 'Why Did I Hire It?' question lol!) I'm appalled though, coz I think he's gorgeous and has lovely eyes and my grandma walks into the room and goes "he's got evil eyes hasn't he? I bet he's the bad guy!"
From the second it started I could tell it wasn't made in America - it just didn't look like an American town..but I didn't expect it to have been made in New Zealand and pretending to be Oregan..that's just dumb! As is casting an aussie with only a slight grasp on a passable American accent - she needs to work on the word 'worried' - it's very obvious that we say it very different to Americans lol!
Even though I'm baffled by it, and it was pretty crap overall, it did have bits that were good - it's a thriller and I didn't really pick the outcome...and the suspenseful bits were pretty well done too. Crap film though lol!
I watched a film called According To Spencer, with cute boy Jesse Bradford...it was fun, and he was great but it MAJORLY lacked plot! And why they needed porn making characters in a romantic comedy, I'll never know!
I saw Gettin' Square today - not intentionally but it was the one thing on when I wanted to go lol - and it's brilliant! Tis a very cool new aussie film about criminals trying to straighten up their lives - David Wenham is BRILLIANT and I adore Sam WOrthington, he's cool! His little bro in it's a cutie too - altho SOOO wearing eyeliner lol!
Oh and Gary Sweet's in it, and my cousin's working with him so that'll be cool...I used to be in love with old Gary when I was like 8 lol!
OMG I'm watching the midday movie about John Lennon's life...only up to VERY early Beatles days - pre Ringo - and it's soooooooo bad! the accents are AWFUL! And it's just terrible. I'm laughing but I don't think it's a comedy!
What was this Bec? Was it like a documentary? Or people PRETENDING to be them?????
How can you insult anything about the Bealtes, even their accents????? Then again, they are the only 4 boys I could let get away being Scousers really..... lol
If it was a documentary, sounds interesting to me. I guess there's some things that only real fanatics like. Like that. And Magical Mystery Tour. "It took me half an hour to find the sugar!" LOL!!!!
Ohhh Lou, I wasn't insulting the Beatles! I love The Beatles! But this was DODGY! It was a movie about them, with some of the worst actors ever....it was AWFUL! It was so basic like "oh we need a drummer...." and ten seconds later there's this stupid actor going "hello I'm Ringo" - it was like Beatles history for morons lol!
If they're done well, those kinda movies can be cool - I love the John and Yoko movie...lol I used to watch it all the time when I was about 8. I found it on vid the other day and got all excited! It's Mum's and she thinks it's crap so she's like "Please put A Hard Day's Night on insteeeeead!" - but HAD to watch John and Yoko - A Love Story lol! The guy who plays John rocks!
Just watched What A Girl Wants - after my vid store guy paid me out about hiring it! Pffft! (Luv Nath tho!) - it's soooo adorably feel good! As much as I like edgy, piss taking, creepy films, I don't mind the occasional touch of feel good lol! And I ADORE Colin Firth! I actually only watched half of the movie (so far) coz now dumb cousin Tim's here paying me out bout watching this film..and I don't want him to see me cry lol!
LOL "beatles history for morons" That would be a good selling line for it!
I loves Hard Days Night! (My daddy's in it!! I'm sure you know this already though...) I espeically loves the police chase scene, with the guy trying to steal the car at the same time. lol. And I loves when they sing If I Fell coz Ringo's sulking. And I LOVE John in that film. I know he was a bit of a strange guy, and had a temper, and went all weird, but there's just something about him. His joker-ness is lovely. Plus he was getting it all together again.... then he was bloody murdered. God damn Mark Chapman (that's the name right? something like that). and GOD DAMN YOKO!!!!
cough runs away before the hatred of yoko takes over this thread......
John Lennon rocks! My fave Beatle by a mile! (followed by Ringo coz he was cool!) Can u believe that cow Yoko had the nerve to show up at some George Harrison benefit thing the other day?????? (I saw in on Entertainment Tonight lol)
Hard Day's Night is soooooo cool! Love it!
I watched Kangaroo Jack again last night...god that films bad! It's the most cliched aussie film ever, with the dodgiest stereotypes...I mean, I have NEVER referred to the toilet as "the bog trough"...it's just so dumb! But I LOVE Jerry O'Connell (ewww that he's going out with Ginger Spice tho!) AND LMAO @ the dodgy talking Roo having beautiful Adam Garcia's voice!
Also watched What A Girl Wants Again....got to see my mum sobbing through it which is ALWAYS hilarious!
I saw The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen tonight, and wasn't sure I'd like it but I actually REALLY enjoyed it! Was only interested in seeing it coz of Stuart Townsend (one of my fave actors), and cutie Shane West, but it was really interesting and really well done. Loved that Stuart played Dorian Gray - I LOVE that book! I'm not a huge fan of special effects but they were brilliant in this film - it's really different. It was nonsense, or as I felt the need to call it "tommy rot" lol, but good fun!
I saw Intolerable Cruelty yesterday - and had heard it was shite, so had VERY low expectations...but REALLY liked it, which is weird coz I usually hate Coen Bros films - I like bizarre but their bizarre is just annoying usually! George Clooney (who I usually love) is a bit annoying in it though, but Catherine Zeta-Jones is excellent! Tis silly but good.
And ooo, I just saw that Inspector Gadget was on TV, so I watched a little bit of it. OMG Matthew Broderick hadn't changed a BIT from when he was in Ferris! LOL! He must have been at least 10/15 years older, and looked EXACTLY the same! Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
In case anyone missed out on this fact - I saw Finding Nemo. And I loved Rovey's little part. Hehehe, we were at this Italian restaurant with my godmum Sue and her family, and for some reason my brother (age 23) was like 'lets poke alwyn' to me (alwyn's sue's husband) and then much later alwyn left and then I said something about poking alwyn, and LOL rich goes "Poking Alwyn - the cheap version of Finding Nemo" Now THERE's a film idea!!!
I hadn't hired a movie in yonks, so I walked down the street tonight and hired a couple...I felt like total, silly crap so I went with Old School...and OMG I officially love this film!
It's just dumb but it's really funny, well made dumb! U know how some lines from movies u just KNOW u'll use them forever? This movie has a couple of those...sooooo funny! I love Vince Vaughn and Will Ferrell, and I even quite like Luke Wilson now. And one of my faves, Seann William Scott, was at his scene stealing best...soooo funny! I can't believe how much I enjoyed this silly film!
I ventured into pretentiousville today - the arty cinema in the city! I've seen some brilliant films there, but I always feel like a total tosser - because I'm surrounded by total tossers lol! BUT the film was excellent! Tis called Laurel Canyon, and is about this hip, cool, music producing woman played by Fargo weird lady Frances McDormand, and her pretty much non existent relationship with her very different, studious, serious son, played by the divine Christian Bale (I'd forgotten how much I adored him! Well I did back in his Little Women days even though bloody Laurie ends up with the wrong sister! I HATE THAT!!! And also fair enough that my love for Christian kinda died down in recent years, considering the last thing I saw him in was the deranged, awful, freaky, icky R Rated American Psycho where he was CREEEEEPY!)...anyways, he has to come home to work, and brings his gf played by Kate Beckinsale, who's really clever and quiet and he's very embarrassed by his mum and her rock star mates and lifestyle...it's a brilliant film! So the kinda thing I love!
Last night I watched About A Boy. Well, I missed the first... i dunno... maybe half hour or something... not much really. Coz we've got the full Sky package now for 3 months or something - so mum's watching all the film channels as much as she can (and dad's watching the sport! as am i this afternoon when a NUFC match is on live! woohoo!)
Anyways, yeah, so I thought it was an ok film actually. And O-M-G I didn't completely hate Hugh Grant in it!!!!!! Maybe it's coz his hair wasn't as awful as usual (is it bad that I am sooooo influenced by someones hair? lol!), or maybe it was coz you could tell that deep down in his character he was gonna turn out to be the good guy, the guy who actually has a heart.
But yeah usually I'm just like 'urgh... hugh grant... urgh.......' the whole time through one of his films, but this time I just... umm.. well... wasn't. It definitely has to be the hair!!! Plus he was nice to the little boy. Plus he was funny - LOL has the phrase "bugger off" been used SO many times in one film before?? If so, I sooooo have to watch that film too. It's a lovely phrase! LOL!
But then after that mum had a choice of watching Bridget Jones' Diary... or 4 Weddings and Funeral. Both of which star.........yeh, bloody Grant again. With the awful floppy hair of normalness (actually I've no idea what his hair is like in 4 Weddings, but still) Anyways, however un-awful he was in the first one, I simply could NOT stand another film with him in, so I left! lol.
Ferris was on TV then too... but mum doesn't like that film There must be something seriously wrong with her.........
I watched X2 (I think it's called that elsewhere...but in Oz it was just X-Men 2 lol) last night and loved it! I'm not really into films like that, but I like Hugh and I ADORE James Marsden. Anyways, it was really good - I usually lose interest half way through films like that but I was very much into X2. I thought Famke Janssen was great, and she usually annoys me lol!
Very funny tho - had to explain why these people were at a "mutants school" to my grandma...then she announced I "watch some rubbish!"
I saw Igby Goes Down today - sooooooo good. It's become one of my new favourites - it's really interesting, and very funny in a dark kinda way. The entire cast is great - particularly Jeff Goldblum, Claire Danes and Kieran Culkin - he's brilliant.
It's got some very funny lines and it's very clever. Love it!
I watched The Good Girl this arvo - pretty crap. Jake Gyllenhaal's 'Holden Caulfield' wannabe character is annoying, and Jennifer Aniston's character is just dumb! It's kind of predictable, and just not overly interesting. Watchable though.
I also watched X Men tonight - good thing it was on telly, coz after watching the sequel last nite, I realised I had NO recollection of what the hell had happened in the first loL! Love those films!
I saw The 25th Hour this arvo - what a film. It's really powerful, and really depressing, but brilliant. Edward Norton is such a good actor - I always love his films, he makes the characters so real.
The post-Sept 11 stuff is really powerful - particularly the ground zero scene. Great film.
And omg I can't believe how grown up little Anna Paquin is lol!
I just watched Meet Joe Black. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmBrad Pitt. I know that's like such a stereotypical reaction, but really he does deserve it. One day I think "Bradpitt" will be a word in the dictionary, a synonym for gorgeous. Teeheehee, when he smiled I got all giggly (luckily I was watching it by myself in an empty house so it was ok! LOL!)
I'd never seen it before, and it was due to finish at 11:20pm, and by 10pm I was like 'surely it's gotta end soon?' then almost died myself (mmmmm wouldn't mind dying if Death looked like that;) LOL) when I saw how much longer there was to go!!! I just had no idea how they were gonna drag it out that much longer!
SO glad they brought original coffee shop dude back again at the end - he was lovely!!! I mean, Death was cool, he was very scary for the first 5/10 minutes when he was all far off and vacant, but after that he got quite a sweet smile and whatever. But yeah, original coffee shop boy was great.
Really confused about HOW the girl realised that Joe was Death??? Coz the whole "I wish you could have met my father" and whatever shows that she knew... but.. umm... how? I mean, I know she knew SOMETHING was up at the end, but personally that's not the first thing my mind would leap to - "this dude's really weird... oooooohhhh... he must be Death!"
Got a bit pissed off in the last hour... last half hour especially.... "for gods sake just die already!!" etc. Hehehehe, loved when Joe was like "death and taxes?? What a strange combination?" and looked just so bemused - hehehe, awwwwwwwww. And when he told that Drew guy "I.........." and then Bill was interrupting... "AM......" and then Bill was interrupting again he was like "yes, thanks bill, i think i can handle this now..." and then made something up about the IRS and looked so pleased with himself.
Yum yum yum Mr Pitt...... Ms J Anniston is a very lucky lady! lol.
(Though I quite recently saw him on some interview and he had weirdy long hair!!!!! And looked not so pretty at all!!! So hopefully that's changed back. Awwww and he's 40 now... that's so bizarre!)
Jeez t'was a long film though... coulda easily packed it all into 2 hours rather than 3 and a bit!!!! Grrrrr.
Huge YAY for the AFI Awards - I love them! The show was pretty shoddy, but I still enjoyed it - I love aussie films and TV!
Even bigger YAY for ALL of the stars who put their 2 cents worth in about the current state our industry is in - about to be lost, because of that arsehols John Howard - about to throw away our chances to make OUR films about US, just because of some crap free trade business deal. Increase the amount of American content on our screens (who woulda thought that was possible?) and decrease the amount of aussie content. What a bloody joke.
AND LMAO @ the silly awards people releasing streamers and what not to celebrate one man's lifetime achievement award -and then realising they had to do the rest of the show with streamers hanging from the roof, right in front of thee podium...so everyone was obscured lol! LOved host Tony Squires "I don't think we thought this through..."
Saw Japanese Story today - coz it won so many AFI awards - and it's really good. Bit slow, but good story, unpredictable, beautifully made, and Toni Collette is brilliant.
I forgot to mention I saw School Of Rock last night - sooooorrrrrrreeee Bee lol!
It's VERY funny - about 1000 times better than I expected -altho expectations weren't high since it starred Jack Black, who usually irritates the shite outta me!
BUT he's EXCELLENT in it - his usual manic, over the top self - but very funny, and just silly. The actual plots a bit dumb, but he and the kids make it very funny! Particularly the keyboard boy who is adorable lol!
I wasn't so keen on main girl - coz she's precocious - on screen and in real life (poor Lou had the experience of chatting to me while I was watching precocious girl on Bert lol....can't stand girls like that!) - but her character is good, despite my wanting to kick her...very hard.
It also stars Joan Cusack who I really like - she's a strange woman!
It's got the best soundtrack, and I really like movies bout music, so I'm not surprised I loved this!
It's very cute, and very funny!
Ohh and watch the end credits - excellent little end song bit!
Matt borrowed swimfan from me last week, and I told him to look for the sticker...and explained...and now I think he's very worried about my mental health lol!
LMAO - bout 2 mins after I read Lou's post bout Churchy's stuff, Trisi sms' saying she's seen School Of Rock...so of course I have to ask if she spotted it...lol nup, so there's someone else who has to see it again lol!
I couldn't sleep last nite so I ended up watching 2 movies I hired last week, and forgot about...oops lol!
First was Bandits - the Bruce Willis, Cate Blanchett, Billy Bob movie that everyone raves about....well I thought it was pretty crappy. I was VERY disappointed. It's not bad, it's just NOWHERE near as good as I expected. Cate's brilliant, as always, and Billy Bob is his usual peculiar self...he does it so well! Loved his character! Ohh and one of the Bruce and Demi's daughters, Scout, is in it. I've realised I read too many trashy mags if I can recognise her lol! Wasn't actually paying attention to the film..but looked up and went "Ohhhh burper girl is Scout!" lol! Bit scary lol!
I then watched The Replacements - a film about American footy - with Gene Hackman and Keanu Reeves (speaking of scary, I just worked out that I have seen 25 films with Keanu in them...and I'm not even really a fan..lol but my best mate is) For a film about a game I don't really understand, it's not too bad. It's not good, but it's watchable - full of the usual sporting stereotypes and cliches. And a love story of course! Keanu's love interest was Brooke Langton...who was in Melrose Place so every time she was in a scene I couldn't stop thinking "OMG I couldn't stand u in Melrose!"...so I pretty much took an instant dislike to her in this film!
I watched The Man Who Wasn't There tonight...coz I'd heard it was really good...but twas soooo boring. And it's bloody film friggin noir! I hate that bloody style! (u know the black and white old detectivey kinda style, with the voice overs?) FRIGGIN HATE IT! LOL having flashbacks to Uni...I was going to do an essay on how much I friggin hate it!
LOL my best friend said a similar thing when I told her last night....but then she said "So what are the 25?" so she could calculate how many she'd seen lol!
I watched Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind tonight - peculiar film. It's about an American tv host/producer who claims that he was also a CIA assassin. Very odd. It's based on a book that he, Chuck Barris, wrote all about his double life - and the film is the story of his life, but also has interview pieces with actual famous American tv ppl he worked with at the time, discussing whether or not they believe his CIA claims to be true - or if he just had a vivid imagination or was a nutter - or is a nutter, as he's still alive. No one can really prove it, coz the CIA don't ever actually go "Yep, he was a trained killer" I guess lol!
The cover claimed it was a comedy - but it's really dark and depressing - and just odd. Sam Rockwell is very good as Chuck - a not overly nice guy, but likable at the same time. It also stars George Clooney (who also directed it), Drew Barrymore and Julia ROberts...and has a 10 second cameo appearance by Matt Damon and Brad Pitt YAY! lol!
I REALLY want to read the book now - it's been sitting on my shelf for months, but might actually read it now.
My best mate and I also watched High Fidelity - a film we LOVE! I love it because John Cusack is one of my all time fave actors, Sarah loves it coz she adores Jack Black....and we both love it because it's BRILLIANT! LOL! Tis a great book too - but I love the film version more!
bec - i just tried emailing you but my internet gave out on me at the vital moment... so I though that posting it here would mean that it still got your attention! LOL!
LMAO Lou! Thanks for that...going to check it out.
MASSIVE YAY! I was looking at REALLY OLD vids for sale at my local vid store and found For Keeps - one of my all time FAVE movies...it's soooo crap but I love it!
YAYness coz Pirates of the Caribbean is out tomorrow!! Woooooooooooohooo!!
Then I just have to wait 25 days till Christmas (OMG TOMORROW IS DECEMBER!! YOU GUYS ARE ALREADY IN DECEMBER!!!) till I get it (parents had so bloody better buy it for me!) so then I can sit and watch the lovely Mr Depp be a lovely pirate
LOL t'was a friends birthday today and someone at school gave her Pirates on video. And she shares a locker with my friend Em, and at one point today me and Em found ourselves in the Careers library, a bit bored. There's a TV and video machine in there.
So LOL Em went off and got the video, and put it on! So we were sitting in the careers library watching it. and then a careers teachery lady (never seen her before in my life!) came out her little office and looked at the tv and was like 'what are you watching??' in a rather unhappy tone. And we were like 'umm... a video...' and she was like 'yes, i can see that, what is it?' and we were like 'umm.. pirates of the caribbean....'
and LOL!! She goes "oooo - that's Johnny Depp!!!! Give me a yell when he comes on!" LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
I watched The Matrix last night...and it's nowhere near as confusing as I thought it was. Maybe I thought it was coz I watched it at 2am one morning, half asleep...and then had a tipsy mum come home, chat through it and claim to understand what was happening (lol she's still sooo embarrassed about that!)
BUT I watched it again...and it makes sense I guess in the way that Sci fi doesn't make sense coz they make it up as they friggin go along!
So I was crapping on early about understanding The Matrix...but then I watched The Matrix Reloaded and I'm baffled again. Granted, I was dozing and then my cousin was talking thru it, but I didn't understand the bits I was concentrating on anyway lol!
BUT I liked it more than the first. Really off putting tho, seeing dodgy b-grade aussie soapie actors in it lol! Really hard to take seriously when I'm sitting there going "ohhh there's the Police Rescue guy!" or "Ohhh there's the alchoholic counsellor from All Saints!" lol!
Also watched Woody Allen's Bullets Over Broadway....I love John Cusack! Tis a great film!
I just started watching this Aussie film starring Rose Byrne, called The Goddess of 1967...and was looking at the man in it, knowing that I'd seen him somewhere before.....thinking through movies etc...then realised he's the accountant Mum used to work with LMAO! He went off to be an actor, made one film that was supposedly brilliant, and disappeared...LMAO sooo weird seeing him on screen!
Ummm there was a Home and Awayer in it (Lance's ANNOYING COW wife), An All Sainter, An Always Greenerer lol!...tis off putting lol!
I saw Master and Commander today...it's official, there is something more boring than batshit! SOOO BAD! But my fave liddle Hobbit's in it..awww lol! and Paul Bettany is his usual brilliant self. But Russ...omg he bugs me!
Saw The Matrix Revolutions today - crappola! It's nothing like the first 2..it's like they couldn't be bothered thinking much about the 3rd, and just sold out and made it a lame action film. Really dull!
Saw S.W.A.T today - and was pleasantly surprised. The papers have been bagging it out big time, only giving it 1 star, but it's better than that. It's just like most action film - kinda cliche ridden, loud and simple. I really enjoyed it, and I don't like action films much to start with. I also usually don't like Samuel L Jackson either, but he's cool in it....I still can't stand Michelle Rodriguez though! I swear she thinks she's a bloke! As for Olivier Martinez, I REALLY can't see the attraction...he creeps me out! Colin Farrell (the reason I saw the movie...lol at least I'm honest) was great - and as always, nice to look at lol!
Well I watched Ferris yesterday, so all is ok here movie-wise! lol
Oh oh oh, I also watching a film about the Monkees today!!! It was sooooooo confusing! Coz I know NOTHING about the Monkees, other than knowing a couple of their songs. The film was about the guys being all like 'oh no one takes us seriously as musicians, i wish they did' and so they stop their TV show and do a film which flops, and they insist on playing their own instruments and stuff on their songs and whatver....
And I know there was something about them being all manufactured.... but mum came in and i was like 'i'm watching this film and i'm all confused' and she was like 'oh well they weren't ever a band really' and then she announced that the Monkees in the film weren't ACTUALLY The Monkees!!!!!!! (Which was a bit of a shock after an hour of watching it, but also a little bit a relief coz I was falling for the drummer a tad and was like 'Oh dear god I'm getting soooo bad - I love a Monkee!!' LOL!
Anyways, the film ended with them all being happy and dancing with girls on a beach to 'Hey Hey We're The Monkees' but I still don't get if they were or not!! LOL!!
Sigh.... oh I'm so confused......
I'm gonna have to go check the monkees out now! lol
OK, so I found the film I watched on amazon (It's "Daydream Believer: The Monkees Story" or some such, if you are desparate to watch it! lol)
They were indeed lookylikeys. I'm not convinced they were even good lookylikeys. People seem to be whinging that the drummer guy (I dunno why I liked him, but I did. He was just the nicest character - he was fun and lovely) had curly hair when the REAL drummer guy didn't until 1969!!!!!!! OH THE HUMANITY!! I know know that the drummer guy was also called Mickey.
The story's true though - it was meant to be like a "tell all" of how it all happened. Apparently it doesn't tell much that people didn't know already though. As I knew nothing, it was interesting though.
I wasn't especially thrilled when they met the Beatles though... hmmmmmm..... the lookylikeys there were crappy.
I actually makes a lot more sense now that I know everyone was lookylikeys. It also means I can loves the drummer guy without feeling like 'oh no i like one of the monkees' lol!! Obviously I have this weird lookylikey fetish....... But it's not my fault!!! lol.
*shuts up about the monkees and their lookylikeys now!!*
Now Lou, as much as I love Danny and Join Me - I AM NOT GOING ON TELLY! LOL! But I will watch out for it on whichever show he's doing....A Current Affair I reckon.
As for that Monkees movie? Was that kinda recently made? I've seen it I think - my mum and my best friend are Monkees freaks (it's disturbing), and one of The Mighty Ducks is in it, so I HAD to watch lol! My best friend's all time fave piece of trivia (this is sooo not that interesting btw lol) is that Mike Nesmith's mum invented liquid paper. LOL! If I had a dollar for everytime I've had to watch ppl look at her like she's a nutter for being soooooooo fascinated by that, I'd me a billionaire. It was actually one of the first things she ever said to me...when we were like 7 yrs old...she was very excited that I knew Mike was a Monkee lol!
Yep, I checked the film out in the TV guide this morning, and it said it was made in 2000. (LOL so YAY coz that means drummer guy is only 3 years older now than he was then, so he probs looks much the same, though his hair is probs diff... i liked his hair though! lol. But yeah, he's not an old man! hehe, yay!!)
I have Monkees songs in my head now though..... lol! Oh well...
OK, I just realised they don't work coz they're linked to Geocities.
but rest assured that if you right click >>> "properties" >>>> highlight the URL >>> copy! >>>> paste into Address Bar.... THEN you'll be able to view them A-OK. As I'm sure you wanna!
I saw Love Actually today...omg. Another instant fave to add to the list of all time favourite films - soooo good! Very funny, very sweet, bit sad, and just lovely. Tis all about love in people's lives - and is the various stories of different people -
Hugh Grant as the British PM (LMAO - sooooo good) fancying a staff member (I have no idea who Martine McCutcheon is, but I'm officially a fan! lol!...ohhh she's an East Enderer!)
My lovely Colin Firth as the dumped one...awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww...he's such a sweetie!
Lovely Liam Neeson as the grieving widower/very cool step dad...the little boy is very funny!
Poor old Laura Linney, with her family probs...but OMG the guy she's in love with is DIVINE!
The very cool Alan Rickman, and his poor wife Emma Thompson...who I usually can't stand, but who is excellent in this!
The adorable Martin Freeman (my boy from The Office) and his colleague - some very dodgy but very funny scenes...awww he's a sweetie!
Newlywed Keira Keightley - she's got the loveliest accent!
Ohh and the very silly loser who thinks going to the US will get him a gf..LMAO!
There's a really good quote from the beginning....about how despite the crapness of the world, love is still around -
"When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know, none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love."
And I watched Kiss The Bride last nite on DVD - tis a nice little film about an italian family wedding, and the angst between the sisters - I REALLY liked it.
I watched A Guy Thing yesterday - so good! It got REALLY bad, 1 star reviews, and looked crap, so I waited til it came to DVD...soooo good tho! I may be biased coz Jason Lee is one of my all time fave actors lol! But it's very silly and funny, and Jason is GREAT! As is Julia Stiles - very much like her 10 Things character. I loved it so much I watched it with DVD commentary after - coz I love Jason Lee and he's very funny - omg the most irritating commentary! Jason and Julia are very funny, but Selma Blair is the most irritating pain in the bum EVER!
the film I've been awaiting for like a year finally has an Oz release date - Jan 22! YAYVILLE! tis called Torque and looks awful lol! It's about motorbike racing (yep so my thing...or not) and Martin Henderson is in it and I can't wait lol!
Oh and Robbie's keyboard guy, Max Beesley is also in it...didn't know he was an actor!
check out the movie poster..looks like a gem doesn't it? lol!
Yesterday I watched Pirates of the Carribean, with thankies to Santa for giving me the DVD.
I watched it with my bro James, and all was going well - we were enjoying it muchly (mmmmmmmmmmmmjohnny depp!!)
And then Grandma came and sat in the room, but she dozed (except she looked at the screen when they were all zombified and skeletonial and said "oh golly" lol) But that was ok, nothing to worry about.
Then Mum comes in and sits on the sofa with us. And started commenting about how the sails on the Black Pearl were very ripped and she didn't think the ship would sail that fast with them like that.
I pointed out that: really, that wasn't the most unbelievable thing about the film, and maybe she should just be quiet and watch it.
It was at least halfway through by now, so she'd missed all the explainations and stuff. So we had to try and explain why they were turning into zombies. EVENTUALLY she got that it was the moonlight, and that it was coz they were cursed. However, she REPEATEDLY asked us WHY they wanted to stop being cursed. She then wanted to know why the lovely Mr Depp and co were behaving like they were...
ARRGGHHHH she just didn't get that the curse was a BAD THING! lol!! And me and James were like 'BUT THEY'RE UNDEAD!! THEY CAN'T DRINK!! THEY CAN'T EAT! THEY CAN'T FEEL!! THEY JUST WANT TO BE ALIVE, OR DEAD... NOT LIKE THIS FOREVER!!!!'
Not that we got at all stressy.... lol!! It was actually really funny, just a bit trying.
But she pretty much made up for it at the end, where as the last shot of Johnny faded and the credits came on, she said "so who was he?" And I said "Johnny Depp" and she goes "Oh, so THAT'S Johnny Depp! He's very pretty!"
Teeheehee, she's a good girl.
Anyhoos, today I watch Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. OMG I LOVES IT!!!!!! I remember watching it a few times ages and ages and ages and ages ago - I could remember that it was about bringing characters back from the past and them all being in a shopping mall, and then also on a stage. So when I saw it was on TV I was like YAY! MUST WATCH! I kinda thought it might not be so good now though (I loved some really weird films when I was little lol!)
Anyhways, it's like one of THE greatest films ever!!! I'm sure you've seen it already Bec...... you think it's totally bodacious right???
(Bodacious is seriously the best word ever! hehehehe.)
LOL yeps Lou, the 2 Bill and Ted films are 2 of my all time faves...LOVE THEM! I love when Napoleon is eating all that ice cream..lol it's sooooo silly! Excellent Adventure is sooooo good, and I love Bogus Journey too - one of my fave sequels lol!
LOL is it just me, or is Billy the Kid quite a cutie in that film? lol!
love the names So-Crates and Beeth-Oven sooooo much!!
And love little keanu's hair! teeheehee. I muuuccchhhhh prefer him as Ted than as Neo (or anything else I've seen him in....) Then again, Ted is totally bodacious. YAY for bill and ted!!!!
Hehehe, I love the bits where they're like "I know, in the future lets put the keys here so we can get in next time we come along.... oh yes, look, here they are now"
But basically they're saying that time is a big loop aren't they? It just keeps re-happening. Scary! But cool.
First of all - I'm still muchussly loving the Pirates banner that's popping up all over stevie and mavis. I loves have mr depp's pretty face looking out on us from the heart of our internetty home!
Secondly, have you heard they're (thinking of?) making a new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?? With Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka???
I'm not sure if it's definite they're doing that... I don't know whether it's still in the thinking-about stage, or if it's actually DEFINITELY being done.
I'm in 2 minds about it. Coz the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is just FANTASTIC!!!!! And Gene Wotshisface who played Willy Wonka is basically, well, Willy Wonka. He just IS him. So I'm not sure how good a new one'd be.... and I dunno if it'll be weird having a beautiful Willy Wonka instead! lol!
But on the other hand - the lovely mr depp'll be in it!!!! Woooooo!! Playing another nice, quirky character (like Cap'n Jack Sparrow). So I'll definitely watch it!!
Guess we just have to wait and see.... will be an interesting one though!
first of all Lou - I think Billy the Kid is quite cute too lol! I sooo wanna go watch the Bill and Ted movies now...might have to!
As for Johnny playing WIlly Wonka....at first I thought NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Because the original is one of my all time fave films and I think Gene Wilder is BRILLIANT! But then I decided if they made it a bit different it could be great. Johnny's been in some awesome films...but they're usually a bit dark/odd...which if u think about, Willy Wonka is too...quite twisted really. So I reckon they'd have to make it a bit darker and weirder...because if they just remake the thing in the same way...Johnny will look like a Gene wannabe.
I watched Aussie film Danny Deckchair last nite - a film about a man (Rhys Ifans from Notting Hill - who does a very good Aussie accent for a Welsh bloke!) who is sick of his old city life, and ties helium balloons to a chair and floats away....ending up in the country and finding a life he quite likes, and a girl he fancies (Miranda Otto from LOTR). It's silly but watchable.
And Rhys Muldoon's in it YAY! SOmething wrong with watching 2 playschool hosts getting it on!
My best friend and I had a movie watching arvo today. We watched...
Slap Her...She's French - a very funny piss take of american high schools and popularity. Loved it!
All I Want - an ok 'coming-of-age' film about a kind of messed up teenage boy (Elijah Wood) who moves into an apartment by himself and meets odd people - Mandy Moore and Franka Potente. It was more than watchable but could have been a lot better.
Then watched the sobfest that is A Walk To Remember again (Mandy Moore fest today lol)...omg that film is saaaaaaaaad! I love it though!
Yep, I agree with your Willy Wonka post. Mr Wonka's actually quite a scary dude.... he's VERY clever (c'mon - opening his factory to 5 kids after it's been closed for years and become a legend type thing... and choosing those 5 through golden tickets.... that are only available in HIS bars of chocolates?? the guy must have made MILLIONS!!!!!!) Yeah, *cough*, anyhoos, he IS a bit dark - if kids aren't 100% lovely then he just lets them get taught a lesson... but not in a good way!!
LOL I love when Mike Teevee runs up to the machine that blasts him into millions of pieces, and Willy Wonka just goes "No.... don't..... stop..." in a REALLY lacklustre, couldn't-care-less way. LOL tiz hilarious.
I can see Johnny doing it well...... if it's not just a copy.
I wander if they stick with all the same songs (LOVE ALL THE SONGS!) and if they do the Oompa Loompa's the same way too (apparently in the book they're meant to be little black pygmys? And the director was like "we can't do that! it's basically slave labour! we have to make them something else that's not offensive" so they came up with the orange faces/green hair thing.)
Oh - scariest Wonka moment is on that boat thingy!!!!!! EEK!!
The Four Feathers...I love this film! Had to see it again. One of Heath's best performances I think...he's brilliant in it.
Buffalo Soldiers...directed by aussie Gregor Jordan and starring Joaquin Pheonix..the 2 reasons I wanted to see it. It's about the dodgy going ons in the army...very full on. Great film though.
White Oleander...very depressing but excellent. It's about a teenage girl whose mum murders someone and goes to prison, so she ends up in foster care...pretty awful ones too. The girl is played by Alison Lohman who is brilliant - she's apparently the "next big thing" in Hollywood. Great cast - Michelle Pfeiffer, Robin Wright Penn, Renee Zellweger, Noah Wyle and Cole Hauser....big fan of them all!
I took my cousin (he's 10) to see Welcome To The Jungle the other night. I wanted to see it coz I love Seann William Scott. He wanted to see it coz he loves The Rock. We were playing with his Lord of the rings toys the other nite and an ad came on telly for it and we're both like "I WANNA SEE THAT!" so his Mum got all excited and made me promise to take him lol....she soooo didn't want to have to go!
It's very silly, but good fun - Christopher Walken is BRILLIANT as usual!
Watched Pirates again yesterday - and all of the extra stuff on the bonus DVD...... and just drool.... LOVE THAT MAN!!!!!!!!!!
Orlando Bloom annoys me SO BLOODY MUCH in that film!!!!! I just wanna throw things at him the whole time!!! It's partly him being all wishy washy, and partly his character being SO ANNOYING.... but I'm just like ARGH!! SHUT UP!! GO AWAY!!! DO AS JACK SAYS!!!! lol
But his annoyingness just highlights Johnny's magnificencenece. (i think my spelling went a bit wrong there...... lol)
HUZZAH for Pirates!!!!!
(btw, you have no idea how much i HATE Keira Knightly now I know she's bloody 17!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Awwww don't hate Orlando! lol! I did until a few months ago...his Lord Of The Rings character is piss weak and pointless and soooooo not hot but everyone's like "OHHHH HE'S GORGEOUS!" pffffffft! But I loved him in POTC - I think he's cool, and he's great in Ned Kelly...so I've decided I might just be an Orlando fan. (Altho refuse to call him Orli like his diehard wife wannabes do lol!) Plus he's soooooooooooo adorably in love with Kate Bosworth (who was in lame show I loved so therefore is a legend lol) - so he's cute lol!
As for Keira...omg she shits me! She bugs me in Bend It Like Beckham, and then really peeeed me off in POTC. Slightly redeemed herself in Love Actually tho...hate to admit it lol!
I saw Hope Springs last nite - LAME! I love Colin Firth, but the plot's just DUMB!
Hmmmmm this movie was good....but OMG Jack Nicholson is just creeeeeepy! I mean, Diane Keaton is a very attractive older woman...she could do way better than creepy Jack. EEEEK! So yeah, once that was in my head, I had trouble buying the rest of the plot. Also, Keanu as a doctor was tough to take too...I mean, he's TED! lol!
I watched My Own Private Idaho this arvo - which I'd seen awhile ago but couldn't get into, so thought it deserved another go - I like Keanu, River Phoenix was a great actor and Gus Van Sant directed my fave movie ever...so thought it couldn't be that bad - but it's BORING AS! I don't know if you guys have seen it - it's about male prostitutes, both from very different backgrounds but it's also a version of Henry (not sure which) by Shakespeare...which is bizarre...they go around talking all pompously...STRANGE!
I saw Lost In Translation today, which is up for all kinds of awards atm...and I can kinda see why. It's really interesting, quite funny...very real characters - I really enjoyed it, but it's a bit slow. Bill Murray is BRILLIANT! (I love him) as the middle aged actor who is over his life, and Scarlett Johanssen is great as his young friend he meets in Japan...very cool film! Very odd though - there's a singer in a bar all through it who's a very minor Adelaide celebrity - Catherine Lambert - so I was like WHAT THE??? when I saw her lol!
lol at drunken Will going on about "Legolas" in Pirates of the Carribean!! Was so funny - "y'know the bit where Johnny Depp is fighting Legolas.." and we were just like LOL. He did have a point though - it was the bit where he Johnny goes "Who makes all these?" (swords) and then Legolas (lol) goes "I do.... and I practise with them for 3 hours every day" or something, and Will was like "it's such bad acting!!!!!! it's just so bad!!!"
Knew there was a reason I liked that guy!
YAY for Choccy Factory being confirmed - and Pirates 2!!! YAYNESS!!!!!! I always hoped there'd be more.. coz it's "POTC - The Curse of the Black Pearl" or something, isn't it? Which totally lends itself to "POTC2 - Johnny Comes and Says Hi to Lou" or something. I should so write to them and suggest that title.......
I watched Playing By Heart last nite - omg I love it! It's soooooooooooooooooooooo lovely and fun and sad and just brilliant! And lovely comedy boy Jon Stewart is sooo sweet!
Hmmmmmmmmm I'm very worried about my lovely Martin Henderson...and not just coz he's in what appears to be the worst film ever made (which I'm seeing the moment it opens here this week lol) - but because he's in the Britney music vid...eeek! And now, I've just read an interview that says he's found religion - that "it's kinda jewish but not" gem that the Hollywood stars are obsessed with. I don't care what religion ppl are, but this one sounds dodgy as!
But I still love him! Read the interview...he's a legend!
"Sexy Martin in demand
By Sophie Tedmanson, Entertainment reporter
January 20, 2004
MARTIN Henderson used to be unable to come back to Australia because he couldn't afford the plane ticket.
Now the New Zealand-born, Los Angeles-based actor can't come back because he's too busy working.
``I gotta say I just feel very grateful,'' Henderson said in Sydney yesterday before walking down his first local red carpet premiere for his new film Torque.
``When I left here it was to follow my dream. Ever since I was a little kid I always wanted to go to Hollywood and do Hollywood movies.''
The 29-year-old has spent the past six years trying his luck in New York and Los Angeles after starting his career as a soap star in New Zealand, before moving to Australia where he appeared alongside good friend Heath Ledger in the TV series Sweat.
That was followed by short stints in the beachside TV soaps Echo Point and Home and Away.
Like many antipodeans, he found it ``very hard ... very challenging'' in Los Angeles and relied on the support (and sofabed) of Ledger while being endlessly knocked back for role after role.
After getting to the point of being ``so frustrated because you're so sick of hearing: `(you'll get) the next one, the next one''', Henderson was finally noticed and cast alongside Ledger's girlfriend Naomi Watts in the hit 2002 thriller The Ring, and last year he landed the lead role in Torque, an action romp about rival motorcycle gangs that opens in Australia on Thursday.
``What I love about the movie is that it doesn't take itself too seriously,'' he said.
``It's like a cartoon, we're taking the piss out of the (action) genre ... we're kind of winking at the audience, saying: `we're with you here, this is complete entertainment, don't take anything seriously'. ``It's about entertainment and for me, that's why I started acting.''
While his laid-back, friendly manner remains obviously born of his origins south of the equator, Henderson's American accent and the appearance of the red string of the celebrity Kabbalah religion around his wrist give away his newfound Los Angeles status.
However, he still holds his local connections close and doesn't mind Australians' tendency to claim Kiwis as one of their own.
``It's nice to have that support, to come back here and have people be really proud of what I've done, but I'm very proud of being a New Zealander,'' he said, before adding with a laugh: ``More than Russell Crowe.''
While his latest visit down under is a short promotional trip, Henderson will return later this year to star alongside Cate Blanchett in Little Fish, a drama by The Boys director Rowan Woods, about a woman trying to escape her past.
``That will be great, it will be my first venture back home,'' Henderson said, before correcting himself:
``Well, adopted home - I've got to be careful, I'll make myself Australian and they'll never let me back in NZ.''
My mum has been wanting to see this for months, so she finally got around to it last night despite my whinging that I HATED THE BOOK WITH A PASSION - and omg it's soooooo good! I loved it! Jamie Lee Curtis is excellent as always, and the daughter girl is brilliant. And Dawson's boy Chad Michael Murray is his usual "cool, rebel boy" best! ANd the soundtrack rocks!
It was called "How to Deal", with Mandy Moore in it ... was pretty bad, pretty slow, pathetic storylines - if there even was one, or 2, or 3, or 10?!?!?!
No point warning you off, cos I doubt it wil ever be seen. Never heard of it, there's no way it'd make cinemas, doubt it would even make the vid shop - altho I am sure if it has, you will be able to enlighten me Bec.
It's a DVD dad bought back from Philippines ... and it's definately in the motions, as every 3 - 4th seen it goes black and white and this sign comes across about it being "for screening purposes only. DO NOT adjust your TV OR DVD PLAYER" ... like O K!!!!
But man ... tis a pretty terribly, boring movie. Urgh! What a waste of watching time that was!
This was MAID IN MANHATTAN ... with J^Lo (awwwww) ... and yeh. I dunno. Guess it was ok. Nothing tooooo special and exciting tho, just a nice romance I guess.
I had Freaky Friday ruined for me many years ago by my best friend, who decided to read the end well before she was anywhere near it in class, and then very annoyed with the end, vented it quite loudly - and then realised she'd told everyone the end and pretty much died of embarrassment on the spot. One of the funniest moments ever - our poor english teacher just stood there in shock - was so funny!
Hm... what DOES happen in the end?? If I remember correctly, while the mum is the girl, she goes and gets a makeover type of thing... so then the girl is desparately beautiful or something? Right? Tsk.. those endings are silly.
I still loved the book though.
I was reminded to the book Teacher Creatures today (or was it Creature Teachers? lol) I loved that one too.
Anyhoos, just watched POTC again. Will bloody Turner annoys me more and more each viewing. And I love Johnny more and more each viewing. I always find more amusing little things I missed the time before. I love the whole Barbosa/Apple obsession thing... hehehehehe, SO funny!! ("you know what the first thing I'm going to do when I get my senses back???" (pirates laugh dirtily) "....I'm going to each a WHOLE bushel of apples!!!!!" LOL!!!!) Can't wait for the second one!!
and YAY coz my Bill and Ted DVDs arrived today!! WOOOHOOO!!!! Most triumphant
Awww Lou, Will Turner ain't that bad. He's a nice little fella!
Freaky Friday the book is different to the movie, which is why I think I liked the movie! The book ending...hmmmm I never read, after Sarah ruined it lol!
I went and saw Love Actually again tonight - I adore that film. Mum and her friends were going, so I went along too as my friend wasn't coming over til late, and it's even better the second time around. All of the stories are so well done, and it's funny and sad and just lovely. One of my all time favourite films. And OMG lovely guys galore - ALL OF THEM LOL!
and I LOVED Torque! AS you all know, I've been waiting for this film for about 2 years just because Martin Henderson is the star - and it's had AWFUL reviews, so add that to the fact that I loathe action/racing movies, and I was pretty certain I'd hate it (well all the scenes that didn't have Martin and his ramones tee in it lol) - but I really enjoyed it. It's over the top, it's cliched, it's dumb but it's good fun! (And it has a twist I didn't pick...feel a bit thick actually lol)
In interview this morning Bec, he asked that people "please have fun" with the movie ... how do you have fun with a movie? But ok .. yeh he said to "have fun" .. so did you ... "have fun"??? I assume you did, looking at him.
His voice sounded lovely on the radio!
Ummmm.... well...... it was... well........ weird.
I think I enjoyed it. It was very strange, and a bit hard to keep up with. I was watching it with Alwyn and Sue, and neither of them had seen it before either so we were sitting there going "um.. so that's Emily right? ...is that his son?... is SHE Rosebud?..." etc. We kept on top of it just about.
Except for the end.... which seemed a bit pathetic... until the VERY end... and that just caused more confusion!!!!! I think it was meant to help? But it didn't. WAS it meant to help? We thought maybe if you watched it again, KNOWING what you know at the end, maybe that'd help. I dunno... I'm not convinced!!
I love the Charlie Kane song though!! LOL!
Please tell me one of you girlies has seen it?? It's meant to be one of the greatest films of all time isn't it?
Yeps, I've seen it Lou...I think I liked it lol...it was a long time ago. ALso had to watch bits for Uni, which was quite interesting.
And yep Bri, I had lots of fun with the movie! LOL! I think he basically means that it's just mindless silly action crap, so just sit there and watch it...don't expect it to make you think or feel anything. It's just good fun. I love his voice...his weird US/Oz/Kiwi accent is odd though!
Can't wait for his next film, a Bollywood musical by Bend It Like Beckham lady! WOO HOO!
lol Bec, I dunno why I ever doubted that you'd have seen it.....!!
I think I enjoyed it, I really do. I think I need to watch it with someone like my bro who'll known exactly which bits about it are meant to be what makes it a classic. I liked the lighting in some of the scenes, it was cool.
I know what you mean Lou - I remember thinking it was good, but not sure why it was a classic....re-watching bits at Uni kinda made me go "OHHHHHHHHH" (usually aloud lol)
Now I need to ramble about all things Golden Globe -
Firstly my YAYs:
Charlize Theron - just because I think she's a great actress, totally unpretentious and lovely and sweet and she has a lovely boyfriend who I adore lol...so yes, I'm a fan. Her role in Monster looks sooooo icky, but is supposedly fantastic...looking forward to it's release here.
Sean Penn - Just because he is an amazing actor. Hoping he wins an Oscar, but they are sooooooo political and sentimental and he's said many a time he thinks they're bullshit...I doubt he'll win...he doesn't even go to the ceremony lol! BUt fingers crossed anyways...
Bill Murray - LOVE Bill Murray.
Meryl Streep - coz she's Meryl and an absolute LEGEND!
Renee Zellweger - MASSIVE fan of Renee, never seen a movie with her in it that I didn't like...and that's a big statement lol!
And the biggest YAYs of all -
THE OFFICE AND RICKY GERVAIS! - I YAYED so loudly when I read that result - one of the funniest shows of all time, I LOVE it!
Anthony LaPaglia - gotta be happy for a fellow South Aussie don't I??? LOL! I'm a long time Anthony fan, and love Without a Trace...so YAY!
LOTR - YAY! Enough said.
Peter Jackson - sooooooooo deserving. YAY again.
My not so YAYs (or HMMMMM's)
Diane Keaton - I like her LOTS but didn't think she or Something's Gotta Give were that great...but good on her, I won't begrudge her a win lol!
Bill Murray - I love Bill, so I'm pleased...but comedy? WTF? I don't think it's a comedy role, really...(Johnny Depp's role in POTC was FAR more comical! GRRR he was robbed!)
Lost In Translation - like I just said, I don't think it's just a comedy - I think it's more of drama with funny parts...but oh well...I guess it's quite good
Sofia Coppola - liked Lost In Translation, but it's dreadfully slow...so yeah, not overly impressed with her winning.
Have I ever mentioned that Who mag is my fave? NO? Well it is now! They are usually REALLY tough movie graders - if it's arty and pretentious, it's a winner. If it's silly or fun - it's a D...wellllllll they gave Torque a B-! I'm so impressed! Love them!
June 2005 = Charlie and the Chocolate Factory........ starring Mr Johnny Depp.
Awww yay! 2 I definately wanna see!
I swear he has another coming out very very very soon .... hmmm.....lemme look.
I wanna see Peter Pan but it's only on at like 10am ... and no one wants to see it with me. Like 4 people have gone "have you seen Hook?" "yes" "it's the same as that, just different actors!" ... I STILL WANNA SEE IT!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw Cold Mountain today - my grandma really wanted to see it, so I thought I'd do the right thing and take her along (despite the fact I was feeling crook from a big Friday night lol) - thinking I'd be able to get a nap in if nothing else lol (not my kinda film, and Nicole movies generally bore me to tears) - but I LOVED IT! I think it's a brilliant film. I usually get bored during long films like CM, but I was sorry when it ended. Nicole is great, Jude Law is wonderful and Renee is BRILLIANT! (I'm a massive Renee Zellweger fan). It's sad, it's quite funny, it's action packed, it's awful watching poor people suffer - it's superbly written and directed - I REALLY loved it.
Ohhh I also bought American Pie: The Wedding yesterday, and watched the bonus bits earlier - I LOVE the little "Stifler Speak" feature! Best quote ever, about Seann William Scott's 'Stifler' character - "He works with profanity the way Picasso worked with oils." LMAO! The writer is soooooo proud of the foul mouthed character he created, and the actor he hired to "perfect" him!
Just watched The Emperor's Club - starring Kevin Kline (pretty much always love his films!) - it's a really nice, interesting film. Tis about a teacher at a boy's school and his rather challenging (pain in the arse) student lol! (Who is very cute! VERY cute! But also young...so maybe I shouldn't be thinking that lol)
Great film.
Finished watching Excellent Adventure again yesterday (I was just watching bits of it whenever I had a moment) .....still think Billy the Kid is a real cutie!! LOL!! I especially loves him when he's playing cards with the guys when they first find him... he looks lovely then. And I like the way he looks after So-crates - so cute!!
ANYHOOS, then today I watched Bogus Journey - I LOVE THE GRIM REAPER!!!!!! He's AWESOME LOL!!!!!! Seriously I loveses him sooooooooooooooo much!! Coolest character EVER! LOL! He TOTALLY makes the film. Well done Death! WE LOVE YOU!!
Watched Frailty last night (this morn) - one very twisted, icky movie. Left me feeling very creeped out - ending is pretty weird...not at all what I expected. Really different though - so shouldn't have watched a horror film at 3 am this morning though...made trying to go to sleep pretty impossible!
Grim Reaper totally made the film.... if it wasn't for him I wouldn't have come away thinking that I desparately wanted to watch it again. DEFINITELY prefer #1 to #2!!
I think the first time I was really like "LOL THAT'S FUNNY!!" was when they were falling down the big hole into Hell... and they were yelling and yelling and yelling.... and then they stopped and Bill goes "Woah Ted, this is a totally deep whole!" and then they look at each other, and start yelling again.
But yes, I LOVED it when they were playing games - I can't believe they played Battleships!! That's like my fave game ever!!! (well probably not quite... but I so loves it! Me and Laura played a travel version when we were on the train to Canterbury to see Blair! lol)
Anyhoos, from the game bit onwards, it got lots better from there. Basically coz Death was in it more. I loved it when he walked by the guy in the store that was smoking and just goes "I'll see you real soon" lol
oo look, i forgot i set that siggy up yesterday in a bit of a Desmond moment! lol
Anyhoos, I also forgot the main thing I was gonna say in this post.... (Death distracted me! lol)
...is School of Rock any good? I've seen little clips from it and it looks like it could be ok, with maybe a few moments of "oh dear god, what the hell am i watching?"
And, most importantly!!!, how easy is it to see Churchills stuff on it?? Like will I be sitting in the cinema going "OH OH OH!! LOOK!! THERE IT IS!!!!" or will I come out the cinema going "well... umm.... they WERE there, honest......."
U know Lou, everyone I know prefers Bogus Journey...I've always been torn. My Dad adores both, but claims the second is heaps better...pffft! I do love Death, but I also love all the old dead history legends (I love it when Napolean goes to that ice cream place lol) - I need to watch them again..may have to today.
As for School of Rock - it's great! Good fun, and I usually can't stand Jack Black films...so that's high praise from me!
I saw Big Fish yesterday - great, but not the brilliant masterpiece people are saying it is. Also very bizarre - could send the entire thing into What The? Had forgotten how much I love Billy Crudup though!
Yeah I know - everyone told me the second one was better, and I read reviews that were like "this is the best sequel ever, it's just as good if not better than the first film"
Maybe I didn't like it as much because I was expecting IMMENSELY wonderful things?? I dunno.
But I definitely prefered the first one. Maybe it's just me. But the Grim Reaper made the second one totally worth watching. And I DO like the ending ("god gave rock and roll to you..." hehe awww)
I must go see School of Rock. Oh, you didn't answer my question about whether you can actually SEE the churchys posters or whatever (I forgive you, I always forget what I'm meant to be replying to the minute i click 'reply'... usually I forget what topic I'm in too! LOL!)
LOL oops....that was what I meant to answer...um I didn't notice it at all. Which is why I wanted to see it again (lol like my little swimfan fascination..bit sad really lol).
Back to Bill and Ted debate...first one was my fave for years and years and years from first time I saw it (so like when I was 9 or something lol) and even though I liked the second, I thought it was NO excellent adventure lol...but then I totally changed my mind a few yrs ago...so now I'm confused lol! SOOOOO I'm going to watch them both again this week and decide...lol I so need help! I love Keanu and Alex..and tis so cute coz they're both still good mates...YAY!
Just went to my all time fave site imdb.com to see what they had to say bout the B&T movies...lmao at these ppl's reviews...how wrong they are!
Bout first one:
"Excellent? I Do Not Think So.
It is not excellent, it is not even good. In fact, it is fair at best and that is being generous!"
And second one:
"I am in awe
It baffles me how such insanely stupid c*** can be so popular. At no point in this utterly meaningless trash was it even remotely funny, or intelligent, or even laughable. It was just plain awful. My already faltering respect for Keanu Reeves took a deep plunge - luckily, there is "The Matrix" to hold on to...I think I need to watch it as antidote now.
With the exception of "Barb Wire", this is probably one of the very worst movies I have had the misfortune to watch. The only reason I saw though it all was that I was paralysed by the awfulness and couldn't reach the remote."
See now I thought that too Lou - even I have managed to turn off a film if it was that dreadful (well I have twice in my life lol) - but last night I was struck by the "remote paralysis syndrome" and couldn't possibly have changed the channel on "Jackie Collins - Hollywood Wives: the Next Generation" - which was appalling. BUt addictive. My mother came home to find my grandma and I glued to it...she was more than a little bit disturbed lol!
I guess it's a bit like me and Meet Joe Black. The film was annoying me so much.... but I REALLY had to watch it to the end just so I knew what happened!! LOL!!
At least Brad Pitt was nice to watch for the 7 hours it took to end LOL
I saw In America today and ABSOLUTELY loved it. It's a brilliant film...made me laugh and cry...so good! The 2 little girls in it are adorable and awesome, as are the parents...it's a really lovely story. One of the best films I've seen in yonks.
I saw 21 Grams last nite...pretty much just coz we needed to kill 2 hours between 10 and 12 in the city lol! There were like 6 ppl in the cinema, and these drunk guys (coz u can drink in the cinema) walk in and sit right next to us...soooo irritating!
But as for the movie, it was good...but I don't think it was great. It would have been better if they'd cut back on arthouse wank, and just gone with good old fashioned dramatic film making. Naomi's good, but yeah, not great. Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro are pretty brilliant though.
I just watched a shocker of a film called Darkness Falls. I KNEW it was going to be bad, as I've heard many many awful things about it BUT Sully Stapleton is in it, so I had to see it! It also has Grant Piro in it...which is funny coz he's always just been "Christmas Pageant Commentator" to me, and now he's serious actor guy. He rocks though! Love him! Lovely Adelaide guy! But the film itself is dreadful - about an evil tooth fairy ghost. (I always thought the TF was dodgy as though!) The other reason I had to see this was coz it's set in America but made in Melbourne - so lots of Aussie actors you know you've seen before somewhere with REALLY bad accents lol!
There was bugger all at the vid store today, so I also go 'How To Deal' - starring Mandy Moore. Now, while I was paying for it I could hear Bri in my head, telling me how bad it is...and it was...in a totally wonderfully lame teenage chick flick kinda way. I REALLY like Mandy Moore films (OMG THAT'S SAD!) and I REALLLLLLLY enjoyed this despite it's patheticness lol!
I watched a GREAT film called Rennie's Landing last night. I was at vid store yesterday, as you know, and I saw the cover which said "Scott Foley, Ethan Embry and Peter Facinelli" and I said "HOW COME I'VE NEVER HEARD OF THIS???" - as Scott and Ethan are 2 of my alllllll time fave actors, and Peter and Ethan are in one of my allllllllllllll time favourite films! So I read the cover, it sounded crap but as if that mattered, and hired it of course. And OMG I adored it! It's about college friends, and life after college - which is pretty crap for all of them. It's kinda depressing in parts but also fun - the characters are great. I absolutely LOVE this film now!
I watched The Night We Called It A Day last night. The aussie film based on the true story of Frank Sinatra's 1974 visit to Sydney, where he called a reporter a Hooker, which offended the nation, so the Unions all went on strike and the concerts were cancelled etc. It was a strange film - it was quite good, but it sometimes felt like it was just a piss take of the 70's. Joel Edgerton (who I love!) was great as the stressed out wannabe promoter who gets Sinatra to Sydney, Dennis Hopper is excellent as Sinatra, and David Field is AWESOME as Union chief, Bob Hawke, in the days before he was our PM. So like him....and not in flattering ways lol! Rose Byrne is her usual sweet, dull girl next door self, and Melanie Griffith...was Melanie Griffith. OMG I can't stand her baby voice! Funny thing is, a guy Mum used to work with was also in it...which amused me greatly lol! Oh and Portia De Rossi (or Mandy Rogers..lol I love that!) was excellent as the reporter Sinatra offended. It's a bit 'ocker' Aussie in parts but a good film.
Never hire this pretentious nonsense. I really like Kate Hudson and Naomi Watts, so I thought it'd be good...so not. It's pointless. It's dull. It thinks it's soooo sophisticated. OMG such crapppppola! Although gets far more entertaining when you've had a few glasses of wine! LOL!
I hired 2 dvds that I totally expected to be crap yesterday - just coz I wanted to see how bad they were lol!
I hired Gigli - the Ben and JLo rot. AWFUL! And strangely enough, only because of Ben. Jen was ok...pretty good actually, but Ben Affleck's acting was appallingly awful. Dreadful! 2/10 (I'm giving stars now lol!)
I then watched A View From The Top - the Gwyneth Paltrow flight attendant silliness. And it's not too awful. I can't stand Gwyneth usually, but she's great in it, as is Mike Myers - love him! It's very watchable, and I adore Mark Ruffalo! 5/10
Ha ha ha. Dad bought Veiw from the Top home on DVD from hs last trip .. few months ago .. and I'm like "what on earth is this??!?!" Watched it about 2 months ago (can't remember if i mentioned it on here) .... and it's not too bad. Like it's not horrible..nothing too exciting, so simple, and watchable. Lol .. can't believe it's a video shop rental ... hahahahahah!
Ok..so i watched amovie today! Took ages to get into..kept getting up and doing something, then coming back.. But i guess I was pleasently suprised at the end.
Oh ..the movie ... it was called ANGER MANAGEMENT.
Now, I like Mr Sandler more when he's doing his comedy, but hey, he was good in it. Yeh...it was .... it was ok.
Last night in between footies I watched
Mona Lisa Smile ... it seemed to drag on a bit and was kinda slow for me ... but it was ok. Had some good parts to it and nice little lines. Not what I thought it would be tho.
And today, I watched
Pices of April (seen or heard of it Bec?) ... I hadn't, another dad bought back from Philppines. Katie Holmes (YAY!) in it, and she's really good, as usually, but again .. it's kinda slow. The scenes with her are good, but the scenes with the family are so bad and i'm like "come on, get on with it! i wanna know what happens" ... it was slow ... but ok.
Hollywood Homicide - ok, but Harrison Ford was really irritating (and I once adored him!) Josh Hartnett is great though. It's not overly funny but it's still an enjoyable watch.
Runaway Jury - I love John Cusack so I knew I'd love this. It's not as good as other John Grisham's - picked the twist way too early...bit lame - but still great. Gene Hackman and Dustin Hoffman are excellent too.
I watched a movie called "Thirteen" tonight, about 2 teenage girls, well really one and her poor mother and brother.
It was kinda wrong in some parts, and definately not the kind of movie 13 yr olds should be watching, well at least I don't think.
It seemed to move pretty slowly, but was ok.
Definately not a nice young teenage girly flick.
It's filled with drugs, slutty girls, caked on make up, gothic looks and alchy. Not real nice (great grammer that is!). Guess it tells an honest and real story tho.
OMG I saw Love's Brother yesterday - DREADFUL! Now I love Adam Garcia....but I've come to the conclusion that while he may be gorgeous, lovely and a talented dancer...he ain't much of an actor. His italian accent was AWFUL - I loved how he started a sentence with an italian accent and ended it in his aussie one..lol! Although to be fair, the rest of the cast were pretty ordinary too lol! The story was nice enough but pretty predictable and lame....ordinary film indeedy!
Ok, so I hired this film just coz Vinnie from Home and Away is the star. I'd read that it was AWFUL, one of the worst films ever etc...but it's Ryan Kwanten so OF COURSE I had to hire - and OMG I loved it!!!! Yep, some of the acting is bad - basically anyone doing an accent sucks (french, american...well that's apparently what they were lol) and it was one of those over the top scripts that had to have EVERYTHING in it - romance, bad family relationships, injuries, drug dealing, drug taking, death, murder, prison etc lol - BUT it was still a good film.
Ryan plays a surfer (VERY impressed too, as he did his own surfing!) who has to overcome all kinds of stuff if he wants to be a champion...Ryan is GREAT! (made to look better by ordinary co-stars lol!).
The BEST part about the film though is that parts of it were filmed where they make Home and Away lmao! So yep, it was just like watching Vinnie at home in Summer Bay!
Ok, Chris bought this DVD the other week and had been raving about it for yonks, so he brought it over yesterday and we watched it together this morning. AndI must say its awesome. A little gruesome, but awesome. Its about a virus thats spread through England, and theres only a few survivors who have to battle zombies and the army to beat it. Chris was saying it was filmed entirely on digital camera. He also said in the first big scene, where the whole of london is empty, they actually paid $500,000 an hour to get that priviledge of having the entire town emptied out.
Must see it.
Chris also went and saw Kill Bill 2 the other night. He was speechless. He loved it! So much so when the add for it came on last night during Backdraft, he made us shush so he could watch the add! Too Cute.
I saw Win A Date With Tad Hamilton today - very cute, lovely, romantic sweet little film. Kate Bosworth is great, as are both the male leads - Tad is very cool, and gorgeous and Topher Grace is surprisingly adorable (so much different from his That 70s Show self!).
I have to agree with Bee - this film is awesome. I finally got the courage to watch it lol - coz it looked creepy as on the ads and stuff, and it's brilliant - but creepy as lol! I hadn't realised that it was directed by the same guy who did Trainspotting and A Life Less Ordinary, 2 films I adore, so if I had known, I would have seen much sooner!
It's really disturbing and vile, but it's a brilliant film.
I had a bit of a soppy, sweet, corny dvd watching day today...got all teary a few times lol...so pathetic!!!
I watched Uptown Girls, which is about a girl (Brittany Murphy) who's been rich her whole life but suddenly ain't and has to get a job, so ends up being nanny to this really serious little girl (Dakota Fanning) who thinks she's about 40 yrs old. It's really sweet and sad in parts but the thing I LOVED about this movie was the fact that Jesse Spencer plays a British rock star...OMG sooo funny and soooooo un Billy Kennedy like!!! He's actually got an ok singing voice - it's not brilliant but it's not terrible, and his accents quite good...I thought that maybe since he lives in the UK now he may have had an accent (you know how ppl live somewhere else for 5 mins and suddenly have the accent lol) - but watched extras and he still has his aussie accent - YAY! His character's a bit of a tosser, but he's really good in it- I was very impressed! Ohhh how I used to adore that boy! LOL!
I then watched Cheaper By The Dozen - I love Steve Martin films but his ones of late have been crap....so I wasn't overly keen on seeing this but vid store had nothing else I was remotely interested in or hadn't seen lol! It's a lot better than I expected - it's cute and all lovey dovey, and remarkably, none of the children irritated me...as most child actors tend to lol! They were all cute and funny and pretty good little actors...impressive casting! Plus I love Hillary Duff...yes, that's sad I know! Tom Welling from Smallville is also in it - can now see the attraction...I can't when he's being young Clark Kent lol! The scene stealer however is Ashton Kutcher - very funny, shallow character!
Bec, I saw Jesse Spencer in some other film a while ago... being English again... and he was surprisingly handsome! lol.
Watched Sleepy Hollow the other week. Thought it was funny! Johnny Depp's a beautiful man. Love his bemused look!! And loved how his character kept fainting at stuff - awwwwwww!!
I love Adam Garcia but it's becoming ridiculously obvious to me that the man can't act, particularly when there's an accent involved! His Italian accent in Love's Brother was hilarious, and yesterday's effort in Cofessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen was almost as bad. Yes, I went and saw Confessions...and it was good! LOL! The girl in it is great, Lindsay Lohan, and it's totally predictable, teenage girly crap but it's fun! Adam plays a British rock star (should have asked Jesse Spencer for advice me thinks lol) that started out with a cockney accent, which was actually good, then kinda had his little posh English accent going on a bit later in the film...but then kinda ended it in his usual Adam aussie accented speaking voice...bizarre! I can't believe the director doesnt go "ADAM! U DONT HAVE AN ACCENT ANYMORE!" - how do they not notice??? It's very funny tho lol!
I also watched Love Actually again last night - ohhhhh I adore that film!
And then watched Gidget Goes Hawaiian with my mum at like 2 am lol - we love that film!
I saw Troy today - LOVED IT! I wasn't really expecting to - as I don't usually like epics or blockbusters - usually find them tediously boring and cliched lol but this was great! So much better than the reviews it's getting! I knew very little about greek history before hand so it was very educational lol!
Brad Pitt is excellent as Achilles, and the very cute Orlando Bloom is great as Paris...but it's the Aussies who are awesome! I still find it hard to take Eric Bana seriously as a "serious actor" lol but he's sooo good in this as the honourable, lovely Hector, and Rose Byrne is excellent as the poor girl captured by the nasty greeks! (I was barracking for the Trojans lol).
I REALLY enjoyed this film about 1000 times more than I ever expected to!
Watched a depressing film called Home Room today - it's about a high school shooting and the aftermath of it, focusing on one girl injured in hospital and another who is a suspect...but who become close. It's really good, but obviously not an overly cheery subject matter. It stars Erika Christensen (much nicer than this than she is in swimfan!) and Busy Phillips (Audrey from Dawson's...YAY I love Audrey!!) - definitely worth seeing.
Well when it rains it pours! I hadn't thought about Billy Kennedy in quite some time (well except the other night when Karl said he was going to go and see him..and I cheered coz I thought they'd forgotten he ever existed) - and now I've watched 2 Jesse films in a week!
I watched Swimming Upstream last night - tis about 2 young swimmers, who are brothers and trained by their father, who likes one son more than the other, and wants him to be a champion. Dad's an alcoholic and not overly nice to live with, and very nasty to the son he ain't so fond of...but all that guy wants is to make his dad love him...tis quite sad really. Geoffrey Rush and Judy Davis are great as the parents, and Jesse is excellent as the son that Dad hates...it's a really good film.
OMG I loved this film! (I'm With Lucy..in case u didn't read the subject line...) - sooooo good! It's about a girl who has 5 blind dates - which we see, all of which have good/bad moments...and we find out that she's about to marry one of the guys...but you have no idea who til the end...LOVED it! It's very funny - Monica Potter is great as kinda psycho Lucy, and all of her dates are excellent - John Hannah (the scotsman I LOVE from MD's and The Mummy..LOVE LOVE LOVE him!), Anthony LaPaglia (yay for the Adelaide boy!), David Boreanaz (who despite being the token hottie of the cast, generally makes my skin crawl - he's good in this though lol), Henry Thomas (little Elliot from ET is all grown up and quite cute..awwww!) and the cute Gael García Bernal - who I've read lots about but never seen before. GREAT cast!
OMG I've been waiting for this film for soooo long - looking forward to it because I love AC/DC, LOVE Steve Curry and LOVE Aussie films....and it didn't disappoint me - it's sooo good!
It's very silly and very quirky and total nonsense but it's very funny - very dark humour, and it's also a really nice story about friendship. It's about 5 mates who love AC/DC, and promise each other that if one of them dies, they will bury them next to AC DC legend Bon Scott. One mate does die, many years later, and none of them are really in contact anymore...and some aren't keen to keep the promise.
The cast is AWESOME! Steve Curry is his usual hilarious self as the dorky Foodland assistant manager, who totally follows the rules; Sam Worthington - Ohhh I love him! He's just such the aussie bloke lol - everything I've ever seen him in, he's the same guy - but I love him! The adorable Ryan Johnson is brilliant as the paranoid druggie/drug dealer - very silly character, but very very funny; Damon Gameau is a newcomer and I think he'll be a star - he's great as Sonny, the wannabe rock star but the absolute star of the film, I think, is Callan Mulvey (who I have to say, I loathed in his hearthrob Heartbreak High days) - his character is hilarious and is soo charismatic - brilliant! (I'm now very sad though as Bee just told me all about the car accident he had...awfui).
It's a film full of bizarre moments and I LOVE it!
OMG I love Pirates Of The Caribbean!!!! I'd forgotten how much I'd enjoyed this film first time around...Johnny is sooo good, and I love Orlando!!! (He's a bit too pretty in Troy but I like him in everything else I've ever seen him in lol! He was on Oprah briefly today and has the loveliest English accent and he was so happ that he said "arse" on Oprah lol!)
Also watched a BIZARRE film called But I'm A Cheerleader last night...it's about this christian girl who is sent to a centre to make her straight after her parents think she may be a lesbian - very funny, but bizarrrrrrrrre!
Thunderstruck is sooo good Tris...although I think I was the only person in cinema who thought so lol...was my kinda silliness and bizarreness I think.
I love Johnny too Lou - can't wait for POTC 2 - Jack Sparrow is classic! I bought POTC yesterday, decided I HAD to own it!
I watched Ice Age last night...so adorable!!! I was watching it during Big Brother Uncut ads, which my mum found disturbing..I guess watching a kiddies film during that is odd lol! Cutest film though - loved it!
I saw The Day After Tomorrow yesterday - such absolute nonsense, but really good! Some awesome scenes - particularly New York being totally flooded and then snowed in...very well done. Apparently it's based on fact though - that in years to come, it may happen, because of how we've fecked up the planet...bit scary! Not for us, but for future generations. But as a film, good fun lol!
I also watched The Pianist last night - powerful film.
Oh oh oh oh! I went and saw Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on Monday night ... yep 5 days ago .... oh well ... opening day here in UK, so the cinema was full.
It was quite good, but they seemed to rush it. The start began nicely, then big rush and all of a sudden , BAMMMM, it was over!!!! Hermonie is really growing as an actress ... but Hagrids hut seemed to be down such a STEEEP hill. And Sirius ... well never looks the way your picture him does he ... his haird need to be BLACK!!!!!
Still enjoyable.
I'm hoping to see it next weekend if I can...I have my doubts about it tho, as I love Sirius but I loathe Gary Oldman who is playing him...BAD CASTING!!!
I watched The Sin Eater last night - Heath as a priest is bizarre, and the whole film is very eerie and creepy, and dark but interesting, and very very different. Not bad actually - bad casting yet again though - its the Knights Tale cast again, and Mark Addy sooo isn't a good priest and I just cannot stand Shannyn bloody Sossamon! LOL!
I watched a German film last night, called Goodbye Lenin! ABSOLUTELY wonderful! Funny, sweet, clever - it's awesome. I was really tired, so wasn't in subtitle reading mood when I put it on, but after about 5 minutes, I didn't want it to end. SEE IT! It's one of the best films I've seen in a long time.
I also watched Loony Tunes Back In Action last night - total crap, but good fun...Daffy Duck rules!
Then I headed off to the movies today to see the Irish film, Intermission. Gritty, rough, funny film - COlin Farrell is excellent as the tough crim, Cillian Murphy is great as the sick of his job, can't get over his girlfriend pretty miserable sod...it's a great film. A bit violent and nasty, but very good.
Big big big YAY coz Bill and Ted have FINALLY been released on DVD....which I bought today! Absolute disgrace that I've had to wait this long, but MASSSIVE YAY!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, Angels In America is pretty full on tv…brilliant! The first part of the 3 part mini series was on last night, and I just loved every minute of it – bizarre in parts, sad, awful, depressing and very powerful – awesome! Al Pacino is brilliant, as always, as the powerful US lawyer in denial about having AIDS, while Mary Louise Parker is excellent as the slightly crackers unhappily married Mormon housewife. Meryl Streep as the rabbi was just bizarre!!! But the stand out for me is Justin Kirk, who plays a gay guy dying of AIDS…he’s brilliant. He was in a really bad show I used to watch called Jack and Jill, and I didn’t think he could act…but I was wrong. He is sensational in Angels.
I ADORE the books but always find the films disappointing. I saw the new film last night and there was a lot of pressure, as Azkaban is my fave of the HP books. Once again, I was disappointed, but it's still a good, enjoyable film.
It's a lot darker than the first two...but all the little kids in the cinema loved it - strange little creatures that they are!
One thing though - the films work for people that have read the books, as we know what it's all about, but my mum came to see it with me last night, who has never read any of the books, and from her point of view, it wasn't explained well enough. The films should stand alone - without the audience having to know all there is to know about HP & Co.
The thing I liked most about the film, surprisingly, was Gary Oldman as Sirius Black. Sirius is my fave character, while Gary Oldman is an actor who makes my skin crawl...so I was worried that I may be disappointed...but he was great. I was really happy with his portrayal of Sirius.
It goes for a long time - about 2 1/2 hours, but takes a while to ger started and then wraps up way too quickly.
However, if I didn't love the book so much, I'd probably be more objective in my review and think it was a great film lol!
I watched an English film called 24 Hour Party People last night - all about the Manchester music scene in the late 70's, with indie and punk music, and eventually the birth of the rave culture...very cool film! Plus Dave Gorman's in it - lmao!
I watched Along Came Polly last night...which was better than I expected..it's a predictable romantic comedy, Jennifer Aniston plays Rachel from Friends...I'm yet to see her play anyone but Rachel lol...and Ben Stiller is surprisingly entertaining. (I usually can't stand him!)
I also watched Chasing Liberty, which is a cute, sweet little Mandy Moore film about the President's daughter who wants freedom. I actually, tragically, loved it! LOL!
I saw Van Helsing today, as my mate realllly wanted to see it...I love Hugh Jackman, but it's BAD! Dracula films ain't my thing to start with...so I doubt I was ever going to love it, but it's total crappola!
I watched Serving Sara the other night - the Matthew Perry and Liz Hurley rubbish. SOOOO bad! So bad, in fact, even I couldn't watch it all...I ended up watching it in fast fwd lol! TERRRRRIBLE!
ok so I just wa tched "Holes" - it's actually really quite good!
Looked like a kids film, and it kinda is, but it's really interesting actually.
seen it bec?
oh and I finally watch Peter Pan (the new one) today. Attempted to watch it on the plane on the flight here, but fell alseep. But got to watch it today - was good.
Very proud!!! I've heard Holes is good, so I want to see. And I almost hired Peter Pan yesterday..will have to grab it next weekend.
I've watched WAY too many dvds this weekend....yesterday I was hungover and didn't want to move off the couch, and today I've been freezing cold, and am now getting a cold...so the couch seemed like a great option yet again..lol...so I watched:
Spellbound - OMG what is wrong with Americans??? How competitive can they make a Spelling Bee? A TELEVISED comp...bizarre! It's almost child abuse I think...the poor kids spend every waking moment reading dictionaries. It was brilliant though - a fascinating doco.
Beyond Borders - WOW. Powerful film. It's about Aid workers - Angelina Jolie meets a doctor who works in war torn/places of famine...and over the years, follows him to Ethiopia, Cambodia and Chechnya. It was so real and awful....and brilliant. The doctor, Clive Owen, was sensational.
The Last Samurai - SOOOO not my cuppa tea but my grandma really wanted to see it. Tom Cruise is great, and I enjoyed it far more than I expected I would. The fighting scenes were a bit gruesome, but well done.
Nicholas Nickleby - Charles Dickens was a miserable sod wasn't he? Depressing little flick indeed (and book I'm sure...which I would have read if Dickens wasn't such a prattler...I find his stuff hard to read lol) but a good film. Charlie Hunnam is very cute and adorable as Nicholas..in a pretty way lol! And Jamie Bell is awesome as the poor crippled Smike.
MAN HE'S FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE!!!! And so so so sweet playing a father! I've just been to see 'Jersey Girl' ... and yeh, good film. It's a light, enjoyable film. So sweet. And yes, Ben is just LOVERLY!
No such thing as you ever watching tooo many dvd's Bec - lol! I'd think you were ill if you didn't. something would have to be terribly wrong.
Well my dear, I need a MUCH more in depth review of Jersey Girl thank you very much! As I cannot wait to see the latest film by the greatest director of all time! I'm a Kevin Smith groupie lol!
Man it's odd seeing movie before you Bec, I actually have to try and 'think' about a review...hahaha. Will get back to you with more on it.
Well there's some nice cameo's in it!!!
Watched Down With Love last night, didn't like it. Why did Ean take that role, yuk movie. Seen it Bec?
I love Kevin Smith films because of his cameos lol...I love that everyone he works with always wants to come back for more lol!
Yep, seen Down With Love....I didn't like it - not my thing - but I thought it was a good 'remake' I guess of the sort of film it was...or piss take. I wasn't sure if they were going "weren't these movies lame?" or "Ohhhh I love old films!"
I saw Mean Girls today...no where near as good as I was hoping for. I love nasty teenage girl movies lol..but it's no Heathers, or Clueless. Lindsay Lohan is great though!
I watched an English film last night called I'll Be There...starring that really annoying classical singer girl, Charlotte Church. She's not much of an actress but the movie was quite lovely - washed up rock star finds daughter he never knew existed...blah blah blah...
I watched a movie called Greenfingers last night...looked lame as, but stars the lovely Clive Owen so I HAD to hire it..and I LOVED it! It's about prison inmates who become great gardeners (lol based on a true story too) and enter a gardening comp...so odd but very good! I love Clive Owen!
I saw Shrek 2 today...gotta say it's good, but I can't see why everyone keeps saying it's brilliant, best film ever etc...doesn't do it for me at all. But I LOVE Puss in Boots and the gingerbread man!
Ok I hired yet another movie on Chris's recommendation and i must say I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was Donnie Darko. A bit weird and twisted at times but very good.
I also hired the family movie Cheaper by the Dozen. Hehe I love cute crazy family movies like this one. Very funny!
I've also bought Kill Bill Vol 1 but i am not allowed to watch it until Chris comes home from uni so we can watch it together!! lol
I went to a double feature at the movies last night…at this really old, freezing cold, freaky cinema lol pretty much only went because it was $8 for 2 movies that I had sort of wanted to see lol.
Eternal Sunshine On The Spotless Mind – bizarre! I’m not sure if I liked it or not…I enjoyed it, but the style of it really irritated me. And while I love Mark Ruffalo and serious Jim Carrey (much better than zany Jim) I can’t stand Kate Winslet and Kirsten Dunst…so I had trouble caring about half the cast lol! It’s about a couple who break up and then erase each other from their memories…which is a bizarre procedure done by strange people (the adorable Mark Ruffalo and little Elijah “He’ll always be a Hobbit to me” Wood). It jumps around a bit too much for my liking, jumping from memory to memory, to the real world, to things in Jim’s imagination - very very odd. I like it because it’s different and quite unique but at the same time, it seemed like a lot of arty farty wank a lot of the time too…trying too hard to be different and unique. Jim Carrey is brilliant though. Was quite funny at the end, because I was sitting there thinking “Hmmm that was interesting” and then I heard my mum go “I wish I could erase the last 2 hours! I HATED that film!”
Girl With A Pearl Earring – the real reason we were there to be totally honest…Colin Firth…awww – is about a Dutch painter in the 1600’s. Now I usually hate period movies – particularly set way back in the 1600’s – they usually bore me to tears! But this wasn’t too bad…Colin was great (and gorgeous) as the very intense painter, and Scarlett Johannson (who I think is the most overrated star in Hollywood at the moment…she’s not that wonderful! Plus she seems like a cow lol) is good as the young maid he wants to paint. But seriously, that is pretty much all the film is about. Some creepy older painter wanting to paint young girl, and hiding if from his wife. WOW. Lol. My favourite person in the film was young butcher Pieter, played by lovely eyes Irishman Cillian Murphy (who is brilliant in 28 Days Later and Intermission…love him!) – he was a sweetheart, all in love with the maid…I have no idea why, because she was so bloody dull but anyway, it’s not a bad film if you like ye olde world kinda stuff lol. I expected it to be a lot duller than it actually was.
Just watched hurlyburly - a film that was adapted from a play..so it's very talky, not very actiony lol. It's also about not much lol. But Sean Penn, Anna Paquin and Kevin Spacey are all brilliant in it. As usual, Meg Ryan is lame.
saw the second half of Swimfan the other night - cool film. and got VERY EXCITED at the churchills sticker!! LOL! how HUGE is that thing?!? It's like the main part in the film!! Coz at the top of the locker is a pic of the main character dude and his girlfriend.. then right under that is the HUGE churchills sticker! LOL! YAY!!!!
oh and LOL on thursday Dan told me he'd been to see this film called "Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and then... Spring again" LOL! Apparently he was already feeling tired that day, but he described the film as "long, pointless and boring" and said it didn't help his tiredness! LOL!!
I watched Matchstick Men last night....I LOATHE Nicolas Cage so I was expecting to hate it, but I think Sam Rockwell and Alison Lohman are great so I hired it anyway - and it's actually a pretty decent film...a lot more interesting than I expected, with a lot more plot...I actually really enjoyed it despite Nic Cage's presence!
I also saw The Prince and Me today - lovely, sweet, fun film...I really loved it...sadly lol! Julia Stiles was great and the Prince of Denmark (Luke someone) is very cute and very charismatic...LOVED it!
I seen "SHREK 2" I did yesturday.
I think it was opening day again - odd, cos I NEVER go on opening day. But anyways, the youngest boy here had a party to go see it, so we all went, didn't sit with them, but yeh, all went too. It was like the cinema was empty cos they were all kids, so short, so couldn't see them in their seats - cute. The cinema was full and the box office line was incredibly LONG!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG.
But yeh - you wanna know what I thought Bec, I can hear your mind ticking over.....
....
.............
.....................
I did enjoy it quite a lot! I actually laughed quite a bit through it, it was cute, which was good (cos i was having a slow, homesick morning earlier).
HUGE YAYS FOR THE DONKEY!!!!! Wooo hoo.
But yeh - it is very cute.
Wasn't sure if I wanted to see it at cinemas, cos id idn't want to see 'Shrek', just saw it once we got it on DVD, but yeh ... it was good. Lol ... good comments here! Lol!
Seen as I had NO IDEA what the storyline was b4 I saw it .... yeh ... good film, but really quite short. I was suprised.
Watched the first Shrek last week, which was good seeing it again just b4.
(had a few more celebratory drinks in the sun at the pub on the river today ... so yeh)
watching monty python and the holy grail at kate's house.. sigh, love that film!!
then watched python's "and now for something completely different" ...it was quite funny, but i didn't find it as hilarious as the holy grail or whatever. it's like lots of their sketches that they got to link together a bit.... eg. the dead parrot sketch links on to the lumberjack song coz the guy working in the petshop says "i didn't want to work in a petshop you know.. i wanted to be... a LUMBERJACK!" etc.. to be honest, i expected better things from that one.
Watched Raising Helen last night (we’ve borrowed a vcr and dvd player…woo hoo!) - bloody long, drawn out predictable crud!!! But watchable. I really like Kate Hudson, plus the 3 kids were all very good too…so it’s not bad, just TOTALLY predictable, sentimental mush lol!
I went and saw King Arthur last night – I wanted to see it as I adore Clive Owen (who plays King Arthur) and because Joel Edgerton is in it…and I love him lol! I wasn’t expecting much friom it…as you know, I’m not a massive fan of the big screen blockbuster – but I LOVED it! It was soooo good! Really interesting, and the characters were great! Keira Knightley didn’t even irritate me once! Clive Owen was brilliant as Arthur – who was just a top bloke lol! And Joel’s pretty eyes sparkled the whole time…he’s not much to look at but he has lovely sparkly eyes lol! It’s quite full on and gruesome – very nasty battles, but so well done…it’s brilliant!! LOVE IT!
When I got home, I watched Thirteen – wow, pretty powerful film. Evan Rachel Wood is excellent as the out of control teen, and Holly Hunter is great as her poor mum…and I usually can’t stand Holly Hunter! Very impressive too, that it was actually written by the other girl in it, based on her life story….pretty scary.
Ok I finally watched my copy of Kill Bill Vol 1 the other day. Man its awesome, buthave to wait til vol 2 is out on video causeits no longer in the cinemas. Brilliant but!
The other day we went and say Farenheit 9/11. Although controversial, it wasreally good. I love Michael moore docus. But yeah very good. We got into thecinema a bit late and it was packed out, so sitting in the front row watching it was nt that fun! i had a very sore neck by the end ofit!
Oops, sorry guys – my computer is currently out of action, so I haven’t been online all weekend…but I’m at work now so I’m back lol!
Bri, I love Donnie Darko! The first time I saw it I was like “WHAT THE?” – I liked it, but didn’t necessarily get it lol…but I’ve seen it a few times now, and now own a copy and I love it. I think it’s fascinating and totally bizarre. Very dark, which I’m quite a fan of lol! Did you like it?
Bee, I love Michael Moore - I can’t wait to see 9/11!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I went to our new Gold Class cinema on Saturday – soooo weird laying back in a recliner, drinking wine and ruskis, and a cappuccino and eating scones with jam and cream….I’ve decided it’s the only way to watch a film! LOL! Was soooooooooooooooooooooo good! We saw Spider Man 2 – which is why I needed to lay down and drink….wasn’t the slightest bit interested in it otherwise. The story is good but I can’t stand Tobey Maguire or Kirsten Dunst, so I just don’t care about Peter Parker and MJ! I do, however, adore James Franco…which I why I’m barracking for the baddie lol! He’s not a baddie as such…just not bloody Spider man! The main villain – Doc Oc – is just LAME! I did enjoy it, but that may have been because of the wine lol! I HATE how films these days are made KNOWING another sequel will follow…coz they never really end, which irritates me!
I also hired 2 dvds over the weekend – 50 First Dates which was watchable despite the fact Adam Sandler is in it, but not great…I couldn’t wait for it to end actually lol! And Paycheck, which is a sci fi action thriller starring Ben Affleck, which I really enjoyed. It’s been awhile since Ben made a good film, so I was surprised!
Mystic River - creepy, tragic, awful but brilliantly done. Sean Penn is excellent as the grieving father (and not as creepy and evil as he usually is lol), Tim Robbins is sensational as the troubled suspect , and Kevin Bacon is great as the detective investigating the murder. Great cast, great script.
Shattered Glass - The true story of a famous young journo who's career turned to crap when he found out some of his facts weren't true, this movie is a really interesting look at the journalism industry. I LOATHE Hayden (sell out star wars boy) Christensen, and generally think he's an appallingly bad actor, but he's actually great in this role...who woulda thunk it?! The rest of the cast is excellent - lots of actors I like - Steve Zahn, Hank Azaria, Melanie Lynskey. Not a brilliant film, but a very good one.
Lou - nup I haven't seen Deep Rising...what's it about?
I watched The Honourable Wally Norman today...the usual aussie battler story, but quite well done. Stars Lou's fave person, Harold Bishop's son...who's not too irritating in it lol!
It's about a big man-eating plant thing. Well, it kinda sucks the liquid out of humans I believe. Dan's friend luke was watching it whilst talking to me on msn.... so I was kinda getting the running commentary.
Then his dad switched channels for a bit... so when luke put it back on, t'was just in time for the couple who surivived to be all 'oh i love you' and kissy wissy.. then t'was over.
So we don't know how to kill mutated giant man-eating plants if ever we need to.
Ohhh... annnddd... I don't hate David Bishop so much anymore! He's kinda taking on the Joe role as funny, bumbly type of dude... He's kinda a cross twixt Harold and Joe. And I love both Harold and Joe. So it's good.
I've had a bit of a movie marathon weekend thus far...watched lots of stuff..lol for a change!
Friday night I went to the movies and saw The Stepford Wives. Now, I didn't want to see this despite loving Matty Broderick, Christopher Walken, Bette Midler and Glenn Close....basically coz it had gotten shite reviews and because dull arse Nicole Kidman is in it....so I expected to hate it. But I loved it! Nicole was great! It's absolute nonsense but it's funny nonsense...a lot better than any of the reviews have made it out to be.
I then came home and watched Annie Hall with my mum....who loves Woody Allen movies. I like him and think he's very funny, but I also find him a tad self indulgent when he rambles on. Annie Hall was a bit like that...lots of Woody character whinging...but still good, because Diane Keaton is great. Plus, Christopher Walken is in it! WOO HOO! (It's disturbing how much I love him!)
Yesterday I watched Plots With A View - a musical/comedy about rival funeral homes...SOOOOO BIZARRE! The choreographed dance scenes are funny but weird...loved it! But the best thing about it? Christopher Walken! His character wants to "put the fun back in funerals" - and has the most bizarre fantasy send offs for people....very funny!
Then finally I watched Grind (twice) - a teen road movie about 4 guys who wanna be pro skaters so follow their hero around America trying to be discovered....very stupid but very fun. Plus it stars Adam Brody from The OC who I currently adore! The highlight....the guys choreographed dance...yep, coz all 17 year old boys have choreographed dances....lol it's worth hiring just to see...very funny! (Plus the clown college...they go to this clown college....bizarre!) It also stars one of the prettiest boys I've seen in FOREVER, who looks sooooooo much like a very good friend of mine...mum walked in and went OMG that boy looks like Jonno! (Btw, we all think Jonno is gorgeous lol!) So yeah, a very fun film!
I saw Michael Moore's new doco yesterday, Farenheit 9/11 - I didn't learn anything new, as I've read his books, but it totally reinforced how awful the US Govt is, how useless Bush is, and how corrupt with conflicts of interest they ALL are. Very scary stuff. It's brilliant!
Oh and Lou, strangely enough, Deep Rising is on here next week lol...so if I catch it, I'll let you know what happened lol!
Well I've watched lots of stuff so far this weekend...
Just got home from seeing I, Robot which I really enjoyed. I thought I'd hate it, coz I'm not into action/sci fi etc, but I love Will Smith so thought I'd see it anyway. I LOVE Sonny the Robot...he's cool! (His voice is anyway lol) and Will Smith is his usual fun action hero self. I still loathe Bridget Moynahan though.....she's a bad actress!
I've also watched a few dvds...
Once Upon A Time In Mexico - Kinda crap, but very watchable because of Johnny Depp's quirkiness. (OMG Johnny Depp playing an oddball? NO! lol) Plus it has the greatest line in it of all time "Are you a mexican or a mexican't?" LMAO!
The Missing - wow. Really long and really dull. ANd REALLY overrated. Tommy Lee Jones is great though. Cate Blanchett is unusually dull.
The Cat In The Hat - Now this got terrible reviews but I loved it! Possibly because I didn't know much about the Cat In the Hat story..I kinda missed the Seuss craze as a kid I guess. Plus I love Mike Myers...very fun movie!
Calendar Girls - Sweet, funny, sad tale about the English women who posed nude for a calendar for charity after one of the women lost her husband to cancer. Really well made, plus I'm a sucker for a true story!
Hmm Lou, I had forgotten..will check to see if I've missed it.
I also watched The Butterfly Effect yesterday - very interesting, depressing, well made film and Ashton Kutcher ain't half bad in a dramatic role! Excellent film.
I'm so disappointed. I've waited for like 2 years to see Jersey Girl, the latest Kevin Smith film, and yeah...it's just not good. I'm shattered - I adore Kevin films! But he's sold out big time - making predictable formula rubbish! Liv Tyler is great though, and JLo is too in her small part. And Ben, well Ben looks gorgeous.
I saw Bourne Supremacy on Saturday night and ABSOLUTELY loved it! Matt is brilliant, the story is great and I usually HATE action films. It's an awesome sequel.
Ohhh.. today An American Tail was on TV. I remember loving Fievel Goes West quite a bit (it had a fun song or two), but this one scared me a lot. I think Goes West did too, but less so.
so I watched about 15 mins of it... just enough to be like "YAY IT'S FIEVEL!!" and stuff.... then in an ad break I just left it... coz I didn't wanna spend the next hour watching something that scared me as a kid and would probably still scare me now! LOL!
OMG that movie is soooo depressing! I remember seeing it with my cousins when we were little and we came out almost suicidal! SO SAD! And scary! Poor little Fievel.
I don't really remember it.. or how it ends or whatever.. i just remember it being scary! LOL!
Ooooh, apparently there's a new version of Donnie Darko out. But also apparntly the changes they've made (un-deleted scenes or something?) make it worse.
Camp - LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE it! It's about a Musical Summer Camp, but it's not overly teen flickish, the characters are quite different, and not what you expect. Michael, the drag queen gay boy is brilliant. The other lead, Vlad, is totally different to most "hottie" characters, which is surprising and odd, but not a bad thing. It also has a song I absolutely love in it called Here's Where I Stand, which I'd never heard before until Aussie Idol a few weeks ago. This movie could have been heaps better, but I still love it!
Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star - I have absolutely no idea why I hired this as it looked crap when at the movies, and I loathe David Spade, but I hired it anyway lol! It's not what I expected - it's kind of nicer I suppose. It's not very funny, which isn't overly handy considering it's a "comedy" but it's watchable. The best part is the big finale musical number featuring former child stars - can't believe how old Eddie from The Munsters looks! Oh, and it's always good to see Screech...ohhhh how I loved Saved By The Bell!
Elephant: I love Gus Van Sant! This film is excellent - about a high school massacre, and it's done really well. The mood of the film is perfect, it's dark, it's haunting and also sort of clinical, when the massacre takes place - very matter of fact. The performances are brilliant. A really good film about a horrible horrible event.
Timeline: It's official, Paul Walker cannot act! But he is terribly cute. DREADFUL but watchable film about archaelogists who get stuck in the 1400's in France, after an experiment goes wrong (a company has worked out how to fax objects....DUMB!). But it has Ethan Embry in it, so I was happy lol!
I saw The Girl Next Door today - my friend is over from Melbourne and we have a long history of watching crappy teen films, so we HAD to see this...and it's about 10000000 times better than expected! Emile Hirsch is adorable as the smart lovely naive boy who is about to graduate from High School, get a scholarship and one day become president...and then he meets the Girl Next Door, Elisha Cuthbert, who's a porn star. I loved it! It's very fun, sweet, and ridiculous!
Prozac Nation - A true story about a depressed college student, played by Christina Ricci, and society's dependance on prozac and various other anti depressants...pretty scary really. Kinda close to my heart for a couple of reasons, so I found it really interesting and well done. Very weird seeing Jason Biggs in a serious role, but he's great! And also odd to see Michelle Williams not playing the drama queen lol..love her! I'm also quite fond of the lovely Jonathon Rhys-Meyers! Jessica Lange is very good as Ricci's poor mother - 3.5/5
One Perfect Day - The Aussie film about the Melbourne dance music culture, which got terrible reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it's not total trash! Parts of it are, some of the characters are lame, but on the whole, it's a good story, and as much as I HATE dance music and the like, it's used well, and isn't too irritating lol! It's about a music student who's sister dies of a drug overdose, and his girlfriend was the one who gave her the drugs and was there when she died...so he, obviously, finds that pretty hard to take. The lead, Dan Spielman is ok but not great (I thought he was mediocre in Secret Life Of Us too, so I'm not a fan), the wonderful Nathan Phillips is as charismatic as ever, but has a crap character, Leanna Wallsman plays the kind of bad girl WAY too well..she's growing on me lol, and Abbie Cornish is great in her shortlived on screen appearance as the sister. It's not great but it's not appallingly awful either lol. I love Australian films, but it's good to see an Aussie film that's not just about the Aussie battler underdog - so that's a positive I think - 2.5/5
Dodgeball - Not very funny. Ben Stiller is irritating. Vince Vaughn
is gorgeous, charismatic, cool...I adore him! BUt the film, not very
funny at all...VERY disappointing. 2/5
Mona Lisa Smile - I often find Julia Roberts to be smug and annoying
lol but I really liked her character in this film, although she was
kind of smug at times. I thought it was really well written, very
interesting and a lot better than I ever expected it to be. 3.5/5
I Capture The Castle - Started off really well, but by the end, I
just didn't care anymore. The casting of Buffy's Marc Blucas was
bad...he just didn't fit. Henry Thomas is excellent, Rose Byrne is
good, but I'm not much of a Rose Byrne fan and the lead, Romola
Garai, is sensational 3/5
