Gap Year - seriously now.....

OK, so we have the definitive list of things for me to do when I'm out in your great country. (I trust that we all have a copy of said list?)

BUT, unfortunately, my trip has to be funded by not only my very own beloved £, but also my future hard earned AUS$.

Which means........ I need to get a job. Well, 2. At least. As I can only work in 1 place for 3 months (I learnt this from Neighbours. I then also read it on a gapyear website.)

Dad keeps telling me to write to Neighbours. LOL. He says if I write early then they might wanna give me a job. I'm sure I could make coffee for the script writers or something. And maybes REMIND THEM ABOUT KARL'S DAD FOR GODS SAKE!!! (Maybes they should keep me well away from the script writers..... lol!!!)

I also had this grand idea at some point.... I think it was last night at a point of some tiredness. I'm sure you'll agree it's a grand idea, but it probably won't be a very fruitful one. But I'll tell you anyhoos so you can go 'oooooo that'd be fun!!!!' in a wistful way.

I thought, I could write to footy clubs and say "give me a job!!!" I could make coffee for footy boys. Do they drink coffee? I could make coffee for the cleaners of the footy boy's boots. Do they have cleaners of their boots? And if so do THEY drink coffee?

I really MUST learn how to make coffee. (I don't drink coffee)

But yeah, c'mon, how much are they gonna be like "YES!!!!!! An English girl who loves AFL!! That's JUST whom we need!!!!!" (I thought using "whom" would make me seem intelligent, but I probably used it where "who" i actually correct! LOL! God I'm tired...)

Anyways, would be fun if I could work for footy clubs, but probs not likely.

You got ideas of what is likely? I guess I could do waitressy stuff. (Fun(!)) Plus I think I might be able to work for McCains (chips) like my friends dad suggested.

My bro said I definitely shouldn't go for fruit picking.

And I have to find somewhere to live too. Somewhere cheap. But hopefully not rat infested (we've had talks from ppl who went to like Africa and stuff, and they showed us vids of ppl living in the most awful huts with all sorts of rats and bugs and stuff!!!)

Also, I must never be reminded about all the dangrous creatures that live in your great-yet-lethal country. Never.

Please keep an ear out for "You know what we need in a little over a years time?? An English girl who loves AFL!!" I'm sure it's said ALL the time in Adelaide, Melby and Sydders.... so yeah.....

LOL!!!!! How crazy has this thread been????

Yeah, I guess if I just write to people asking them it's not gonna do me any harm.

You Aussie folks are friendly anyhoos, I'm sure they'll just be like "strewth, she sounds like a good sheila! Fair dinkum - we'll take her on" (LOL will get kicked out the country if I say things like that???? LOLOL!!!)

I think instead I'll just play up my Englishness - insist on eating crumpets and stuff like that. (what the HELL is a crumpet anyhoo??? lol!!!)

Gap Year

November 17 2003, 3:07 AM

Hey Bec, remember a while back you found out something about sitting in a script writing session or something at Neighbours??

We should SO do that together when I'm over!!! How much fun would that be!! Hehehe, do you think we'd be allowed to go "Umm.. excuse me.... as the voice of The Viewers, I think that's a pretty crappity idea, instead you should kill of Summer and then build Bob a throne and crown him as "King Bob of Erinsborough"!" I'm sure they wouldn't mind that.... would they? lol!

Anyways, yep, we so have to do that!!! Would be fun fun fun!

Re: Re: Gap Year

January 6 2004, 6:05 AM

Me again!

OK, so I'm checking out accommodation - coz that's the most scary part of my whole "lets just up and go to Australia on my own for a year!" plan.

My problem is that I don't really know the types of things I should be looking at... or what I should be expecting.... or what a decent price is.... or the type of repuation places have.

Today I've been looking at http://www.bakpakgroup.com/index.html

The main one they have in Melbourne sounds good (I've not checked the Sydney one yet) - seems like a pretty central location (it's near Flinders Street! Well, Flinders Street Station was on the map! lol) And it looks pretty good. £50 for a weeks stay ($119 i think it was)

Do you guys know anything about this place? I dunno how long you're allowed to stay there for... coz most the prices are like for one night, and I'm like 'ummm, but I wanna stay somewhere for 3 months!' lol Which is why I'm not sure if I'm looking in the right places....

Anyways, if you have any bright (sensible!) ideas about this kinda stuff, then let me know!

(Oh, I also like this Bakpak thing coz they help you to get jobs too - which is nice of them!)

It'll be cheaper (sorry love, but I would have to make u pay a smiggen of the rent! lol! Only be around $40 a week, if that!) orrrrr.... u could always try the pace im in atm.... it $95 a week, and its quite good, central and stuff. I'll look into it for you anyways!

6 weeks before I travel?? Tum tum tum.... that'd be in like July-ish time..... and they'll surely have run out of tickets by then??

Should I email NOW and be like "LOVELY MR MCMANUS - I NEED TICKETS!!!!!!!!!"?? lol

I'm going to take lots of pics when I'm in Aussieland (so be warned!!!) and buy postcards in every cool postcard-selling place I go to. I'm gonna send lots of postcards to Kate, and lots to Fon too probs. And ones from decent places to my parents and brothers and grandmas. And random ones to random friends at random times. But also I'm going to keep them myself. I'm gonna have a photo album full of postcards and photos and stuff. So when I'm back home I can look back on all my good memories!! Teeheehee. YAY!!

CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!

Well that's what it says on the website .... they don't release the tickets until 2-3 weeks before each ep .... so they'd possible be nice, LOVELY people and let you have some cos you're coming ... do you see what I mean??? And they;'d be able to do it cos they wouldn't have given out the tickets to that date yet .. ah huh! That's why it's 6 weeks.

my head hurts! lol

February 1 2004, 3:41 AM

I didn't check Rove's site yesterday (meant to.... forgot...) but TODAY it says:

"The waiting list for audience tickets for Rove Live's 2004 season is now full.
To all of those who submitted their details -- thank you. You are now on the list, and all you have to do now is sit tight and wait for your name to come up. Please do not contact us, as we cannot give out any information regarding the status of your request.

For those of you who missed out, we apologise. Tickets are in greater demand than ever. You still have the chance to get in on the action by joining the Live List.

New tickets will become available as the year progresses, so keep watching this space. And remember, the "refresh" button is your friend. "
