LOL I'm putting 2003 behind me, and moving on!

First bit of footy news...despite all the rumours he was to become a Crow, Jared Poulton has signed a new 2 yr contract and I'm the happiest little Port supporter in the world! YAY Poults! Now we just need Wilbur's signature...

LOVE POULTS!

Bloody Stevens

October 17 2003, 10:33 AM

OMG I am soooo angry @ Nick Stevens - claims he wants to "go home" but then feels the need to mention there's only one club in Melbourne he'd like to go to - what bullshit! HATE the way he's manipulating us but YAY for Choco telling him he will not hold us to ransom! WOO HOO! In one day Nick has singlehandedly turned every single Port supporter against him...well done Nick! Can't wait to have u back at AAMI to play!

I'm starting to pity the team that get's this tosser prima donna!

LMAO Lou! I was exactly the same at Uni, where my wanky English Lit tutor was obsessed with the word and I'd be sitting there thinking about Alan lol! I couldn't use the word for fear of looking like an idiot and because I didn't know what it meant coz I'd tuned out every time she said it thinking "ohh that sounds like Didak!" lol!

HMMMMMMMMMM @ trade week being over. Nick Stevens is a T O S S E R !

But good luck to Morgs and Goo who got new teams..YAY!

WHAT THE?

November 25 2003, 5:56 PM

This is sooo odd...Mum just came home - laughing her arse off - coz ultra cool radio station Triple J just had a segment ABOUT ALAN DIDAK! LMAO! Talking bout the website devoted to him, The Alan Didak awards, what a legend he is, his hair lol and then they begged for anyone who knows him to get him to contact them lol so mum rang Matt and demanded he ring Alan, or walk across the road to tell him.

can't believe little Al was the talking point on the J's lol!

Awwwww YAY for my Al!!!!

My friends were discussing the meaning of 'didactic' (LOL i just spelt it 'didaktic') the other day, and I was like 'I've always wondered that coz it just makes me think of my fave aussie footy boy' ....... then i tuned outta the convo again coz my mind got side tracked by aussie footy LOL. (I'm sure you know what that's like)

But awwww, look at everyone following in my footsteps with the lovingness of the Al-osaurus (LOL I have noooooooooooooo idea where that one came from!!!!!! It must coz I've not had to think of any variations for Mr G for a day or two! lol) But yeh, I'm seriously SUCH a trend setter!!! LOL!!

LOL! Congrats to all the boys tho!

Family Fun Day

February 16 2004, 10:45 AM

I love Family Fun Day! Always good to see the boys first trial hit out of the year, and then of course...always good just to see the boys lol!

It was moved to 7 pm coz of 44 degree heat...eeek....so it was Family Fun Evening, and lovely sitting on the oval.

The trial was great - lol yellow v teal. The little boys who came with us (who we have successfully turned into Port supporters! YAY! lol) decided to choose one side to go for...but I couldn't...lol felt silly barracking against one team of Port players lol! Lots of the guys did well - most impressive was ruckman Cain Ackland who's had all sorts of injury trouble...so it was very exciting to see him play well.

So cute...after the game I took the boys to get autographs and stuff...they were in awe!! LOL! In the past couple of years, they've been a bit young and a bit like "oh yeah that guy plays footy" but now they have fave players and stuff so were VERY excited to meet them! AWWW! Little Jon is "never going to wash his hand again" coz Gav shook it lol! Very cute!

I was in shock for awhile...I'd gone to get some drinks, and came back via one of the autograph sessions, and was totally stumped as to who was sitting between Wilbur and Wakes...(I was walking behind them)...got back to everyone going "who's the guy with the really bad long hair???" and OMG it was Kingers! LOvely Kingers! He looks sooooo much thinner and younger and funkier! I had to go back for another glance lol!

All the new boys were presented - lots of very shy little fellas there..very cute interviews..awwww! One of the boys is a lifelong Blues supporter - but Barry (the club MC) told him we have no probs with the Blues lol (thought U'd appreciate that Bri!) and he looked happy! (Dunno what he thought would happen when he admitted that lol).

then all the boys were presented with their guernseys....very pleased to see that Wilbur got one of the biggest cheers - awww we all love him! And Stuey....yay!

At the end of the night, we had a very cool fireworks display (went for bout 15 minutes) - but I swear my club has no idea sometimes...all very slap dash. It had been a 44 degree day, and a total fire ban day...so they have fireworks...hmmm. And it's on the oval, where ppl are sitting, so we were pretty much sitting right under them, being hit by ash (and some hot thing that hit me...owww!) Yep, real safe lol!

Kadina road trip

March 14 2004, 2:52 PM

Yesterday I headed off to Kadina...liddle country town..to watch my boys play the bloody Crows. Bloody Crows won, and it was a pretty ordinary game but still fun lol! But OMG I AM SOOOOOOOO SUNBURNT! Yes, I realise this is my own fault...but it was cold in Adelaide...and I forgot my hat. ANd the sunscreen didn't work. Seriously, I put it on a few times...and I still got burnt. And it hurts!!!! I think I had sunstroke, coz on the way home I was delirious lol! My best friend and I were just acting very strangely and were terribly amused by very dumb stuff. Altho, on the way up we played "piss weak eye spy" for well over an hour and thought that was tremendous fun! LOL!

As for footy itself, yeah it was average, but it was good to see the new guys and some of the younger guys get a game and play pretty well. And Wilbur was excellent!

March 15 2004, 1:08 PM

LOL the sunscreen didn't work!!! I have witnesses!!!! I came up with this theory - remember I was sunstruck at the time lol - that I have mutant skin which when sunscreen is applied to, instead of going "bugger off sun!" my skin goes "bring it on!" and then I get burnt. Ok, sounded better on Saturday arvo lol!

Piss Weak Eye spy was great! We decided not to use things inside the car, coz we can do that anytime..can just sit in the driveway and play lol. Sad thing is, we both decided that without even discussing it, and like an hour into the game I'm like "how come you're not doing inside stuff?" lol! But piss weak eye spy was quite hard - coz once we'd covered trees, scrub and dirt it was challenging. Our finest PWES moment involved a pipe that went along the side of the road from time to time...which we managed to turn into P + Pipe, MP = More Pipe and the best one, EMP = Even More Pipe. Can u tell the drive to Kadina isn't very scenic???? Altho there are some funky looking bits of art along the way - like this giant fly that has "The Fly Who Shagged Me" underneath it..lol and a spaceship!

Wilbur was excellent, Tredders and Stuey's 6 goals each were awesome...in fact, they were all brilliant!

The new boys were good - Pettigrew will be a champ, and Surjan was so enthusiastic and worked so hard for every kick...gotta love him!

Cuties!

April 1 2004, 10:23 AM

I had the best night last night - went to the club to meet all the new Port boys and have yummy dinner with them. They're all such sweet boys, and I hope they all make their mark at AFL level. Rob Forster - Knight looked suicidal at the idea of having to talk about himself...lol he's very cute in a possum kinda way! Jacob Surjan is adorable too - all he wanted was food! He was like "I'd really like some food now" at the end of the introduction bit, and then spent a ridiculous amount of time choosing what he wanted...it was very cute lol! And poor Luke Peel, just through they way David Hutton (host guy) moved on from him, didn't get a 'welcome clap' - so all the boys were giving him crap about no one liking him lol! And then Michael Pettigrew came and sat with us, and my friend was telling him to make sure he continued to give Luke crap lol. Very cute at the end of the night, when most of us were leaving, a couple of the boys were still there, and David's like "You're allowed to go home now" - treating them like such little kiddies lol! I love Warren Tredrea - he's such a good club man! He wasn't supposed to be there, but he was leaving training and was like "how do I get some of that food?" lol so was told if he stuck around, he could eat lmao. He loves a good club event. He's the Women In Power (group who organised last night) number 1 ticket holder - he demanded to be because he goes to so many of their events lol!

An english girl ended up sitting at our table, and she was so cool! She comes over every year for several months - and has fallen in love with footy and Port lol! She even had a power watch! YAY!

It's been a long 11 months!

April 4 2004, 11:21 PM

HAPPIEST GIRL IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!
We have lift off!
Massive yays for my boys win today!!! It's about time and it felt so good!!! The whole ground, which was great to see was close to full capacity, was pumping and the support and chanting all the way through the match was fantastic to see. I hope a hell of a lot of the supporters who were there today joined up a membership before entering the ground.
It was so nice to see their smiling and happy faces one again after the match and the way they went to every corner of the ground to clap with the supporters afterwards. Campo, (acting captain) led them around in style! It was great to see Campo get up and have a good day out and his 2 long bomb goals were awesome!!!
With the amount of new boys out there, it was great to see their camaraderi (hate that word..but can't think of any other) and how often they'd pat each other on the butt and keep urging encouragement. Was also good to see them stick up for one of the new boys when he was KO'D by one of his ex-teammates (yeh real nice!).
We didn't play fantasticly well, but Geelong were worse (thank god) and so it was nice to stream away and have a good day out!
I think it'll be great for their spirit to get their first up win in the 2nd round of the season, gives them some belief and something to follow on from.

WELL DONE BOYS!!! You made us all so proud today!!! Keep at it! Our rewards WILL come ... even if it is with time.

ohhh so happy happy happy!!!

Came down to a few contentious decisions Lou ... will no doubt pop up in your highlights shows. I am not one to complain (and i wont) tho, besides, it should not have come down to that, we should have converted at least 1 of our 3 shots at goal all resulting in behind in the final 5 minutes, and put it in the bag.
Oh well .. moving on.
The way my boys kept at it and never, ever gave in was one of the most pleasing things. In the past 2 years, headsd would have dropped, with the start the Roos had it wouldda been a thumping we would have endured, but we fought back and for that, i was so, so damn proud! The defecit we turned around showed what we can do.

Did Freo win?????

Does the McManus kid still have crazy hair? Coz when I was watching the highlights of last weeks Freo game I just kept a look out for the hair and didn't see it. Can't remember what number he is. He's still with them, right?

defeated weagles!

April 24 2004, 8:22 PM

I'm feeling so happy tonight! It wasn't such a pretty game, but we looked to have great skills and know how to use the wet ball well. Big yays for our second win of the season, so happy for the boys. They looked like they were really enjoying their footy today.

Our first draft pick from last year, #2 overall, was introduced and what a fantastic debut he had! 26 possession game, 3rd highest behind the usuals in Lappin (31), Campo (27) & Scotland (27). So so proud of him already! His day wouyldda been capped off if he couldda kicked a goal, or kept hold of the speky of a mark he went for. You could see he was going to go for it, I was sitting right behind him, he took a run, the huge leap, the crowd went up, but the kid came down without the sherrin ... oh well. So excited for his career to blossom following on from this debut. He looked so calm out there, and on a few occassions his kicks didn't quite make their target, he looked so angry with himself, was shaking his head and clenching his fists. It was topped off quite lovely by an lovely run in and instead of having a shot himself, kick out to Scotland who kicked a nice goal, and the entire team got down to Walker to encourage him, and straight after his goal, Scotland ran after Walker as if he was running for his life. The ffort the guys took in getting to Walker to encourage him was fantastic.

He's a little cutie too!

So proud of the way we plugged awa,y and keeping Weagle goaless until mins into the 3rd quarter was a fine, fine effort by all, but especially the backline.

Banno did a great job on Judd and little Walker even had a few runs alongside Judd. So so happy and proud.

YAY Blues!

(anyone would thiink this was a footy forum, close to doing my match review ... lol ... will stop rambling now!)

Andrew Walker

April 24 2004, 9:40 PM

Here's the boy, the champion-to-be ... this weekends rising star nominee-to-be ... the 17 yr old himself.

#1 guernsey, after Stephen Silvagni, he'll carry on the proud tradition!

He may not be able to drive himself to training and games yet, but he sure knows how to run and use a football!

His almost Mark of the Year, if only he held onto the Sherrin.

In this weeks highlights you get Lou (is that's still what you get), look out for #1 in the navy blue and keep your eye on this boy!

Anzac Day

April 26 2004, 11:36 AM

I was so pleased that we got to play on Anzac Day - and very happy that Josh Carr won our medal - totally deserved, and his speeches on the ground and back at the club were lovely - about being so proud to be an Aussie, and to play on ANZAC Day - I love Joshy.

The game was ordinary, but it was a win, so that's always good of course!

Was excellent to see Brett Ebert play so well - he's a crowd fave because of the fact his Dad is a Port and SANFL legend - so we all want him to do so well. He's exceeding expectations at the moment and it's just so exciting to watch! YAY for Bretty!

Bretty:

The boys lookin' happy after the game:

And massive YAY for Jacob Surjan kicking his first AFL goal - he's so enthusiastic out there, it's great to watch:

AS for the other ANZAC Day game yesterday - go Al! I saw his brilliant goal, and his mark too - which was great! Make sure you watch highlights this week Lou!!!!

the end of Al's mark..(the best piccie I could find so far lol):

Tredders' column

April 26 2004, 11:55 AM

Warren has a new column at the Port site...very childish, but amusing...

"Tredders - Terrible & Terrific. Edition 2
Warren Tredrea
Port Adelaide Football Club
1:09:47 PM Tue 20 April, 2004

Before I get into a few terrible and terrific’s of the past seven days, we have a very important question to ask you.

It has been a dilemma my teammates and I have been unable to solve over the past two years. In fact, it has divided the playing group and that can’t be good for off-field unity.

But here, in my new column, I thought I could solve it once-and-for-all.

So, we ask you…

Does Dean Brogan look more like Roger Ramjet or the Chesty Bonds man?

Please take some time to consider your decision. Do not take it lightly. The Brogan chin deserves your utmost respect, as we all pay great respect to it on a regular basis.

When you have decided by looking at the picture on the right, head back to the home page and cast your vote by using the poll in the left column. We’ll reveal the results next week.

And now, here’s my first go at terrific and terrible occurrences that have caught my attention in the past seven days…

TERRIFIC

Thierry Henry’s four goals against Leeds on Friday night to extend Arsenal’s unbeaten run to 33 games in the English Premier League.

Foxtel’s digital TV

Doing football as a Year 12 subject. The club's been running football as a genuine year 12 school subject. Not PE, football. Some of the players spent some time with the students on Tuesday. If only they had that when I was at school!

TERRIBLE

Dom Cassisi’s eyebrow. It is fast growing the status of the Brogan chin.

Damien Hardwick being stretchered off at Glenelg Oval with a rolled Elephant-itis ankle. Doctors were confused whether it was actually a sprained ankle or just his usual ‘cankle’.

Leaving 17cm scissors in a female patient. See Tuesday’s Advertiser.

Wade Champion’s effort at lawn bowls on Monday night – one bowl didn’t even make the half way mark.

And finally, our game against Melbourne.

Till next week,

Tredders"

Great night!

April 29 2004, 12:43 AM

I had the best time tonight at the club - the original guests were supposed to be Matty, Gav and Pekka but for various reasons, we ended up with Bretty Ebert (YAY) and Stuey Dew (MASSIVE YAY!) with Pekka. It was sooo good! It was really bizarre to see Stuey be the older guy, answering the tougher questions and kinda looking at the boys like 'ohhhh u children!' - it was very sweet. I said that to him after and he was like "OMG the pressure was on!!!" - coz some of the women were asking pretty full on questions, in regards to the MCG problems and finals probs we seem to have. Bretty was just so cute - he's really shy, and coz he's the son of a Port legend, he sort of doesn't like the limelight - ppl spend way too much time comparing him to his dad..but he's such a dear boy lol! ANd Pekka - the most confident boy in the world, but in a very sweet, lovable kind of way - like running to the loo going "need to use the little boys room" and then talking about his very lazy attitude towards school - I loved "I done English" - omg Stuey gave him the hardest time ever - was cute!!!!!! When asked what his hobbies were Pekka said "Playing my X-box.......oh and school" LMAO! Loved Stuey talking about how he played cricket with Roger James in the country for 2 seasons, until the club found out and banned them...silly boys! He's still peeved tho, because he missed the final! LOL! And Pekka's re-telling of pissing off the Scott twins from Brisbane was hilarious!

Went up to get pics and stuff after and Pekka was hilarious. Most of the boys are kind of shy and hate all the PR stuff, so take it in turns, but he's like "this is great! it's such a laugh! I'm lovin' it!" And Stuey talking about working with kids, and what an amazing guy Pat Rafter is because of all he does with charities and stuff just made me love Stuey even more...he's just a really nice boy lol!

But apart from the lovely boys, we also heard Choco's sister, Jenny, speak. She works for the club, is also a teacher, and won the Footy Woman of The year award last year. She's just great for our club - shes's passionate, knows what she's talking about and reallllllly wants to help the club succeed - her talk was brilliant and totally inspiring.

today me and phil were looking up stuff on melbourne on the net when we got bored, and he saw "MCG" written somewhere and he was like 'oh i wanna go there' and i was like 'yeh me too.. but you probs wanna go for the cricket rather than the footy' and he was like 'footy? This particular night was a Women's members night but I'm sure I could sneak you in Lou!!!

Our next one is the biggie - Night With The Stars! Poor Stuey was like "That's the thing I came to years ago when u body painted me right?" lol - I think he's scarred for life. Although he then said "ohhh I'll come this year! It's fun!" lol! Thankfully, they don't body paint anymore which is why I've joined...was a bit tacky before.

New Tredders' Column,,,,

April 29 2004, 11:11 AM

KInda sad...

First, my T&T’s for the week…

TERRIFIC

Arsenal winning the premier league title with four games to go

Graham Cornes’ Anzac Day pre-game address to the players

Port Adelaide’s group of tireless workers, Al Chivell, Clarrie Hoffman, Brian Fitzpatrick, Alf Trebilcock, Bob Page, Dave Goodwin, Murray Cooper, Foster Bibron, Dave Watkins (nothing’s ever too much).

TERRIBLE

Inexcusable crowd behaviour

Now to everyone who replied to our internet poll last week, I thank you sincerely.

Mr Brogan wasn’t too impressed, especially when my article’s exposure has now gone beyond the internet. I’m proud to say Tredders - Terrible & Terrific has been recognised by The Advertiser, Herald Sun, Fox Footy Channel, and even Melbourne’s free public transport publication. What next, the BBC? I dream.

I’m told there were more than 1,000 votes all up and with a 70% majority to Chesty Bonds we could lay the issue to rest.

But I received a couple of emails that got me thinking, is there an even better Brogan look-a-like right on our doorstep at Alberton? I have to share this you all which landed in my inbox at tredders16@hotmail.com …

Gee Tredders, What a dilemma! Who does Dean Brogan most resemble? Is it Roger Ramjet, Hero of Our Nation; or Chesty Bonds, Two-dimensional Dreamboat? I've given this matter a great deal of thought, and although it was a tough call, I think I've picked it. Roger Ramjet. But then I clicked on the home page link to cast my vote, and it hit me. Look at that shot of our mascot, Thunda Power. Can you see it?

But now to a more serious note…

Many things in a footballer’s life are pretty easy to take. Driving a flash car from a sponsor, free sports goods, invitations to shows. At the other end of the scale, the worst thing we think can happen to us is we could be injured for an entire season.

Last Wednesday Alastair Clarkson, Chad Cornes, Stuart Dew and myself drove out to a home in St Agnes and were greeted by one of the keenest Power supporting families in Australia. By the time we said goodbye, we were looking at our lives a little bit differently.

Their house, flanked by a dry creek, was like any other in suburban Adelaide. The difference is there is a 16-year-old boy inside the house playing the toughest game of his short career, he’s fighting cancer, fighting a brain tumour.

Chris Thompson is the boy’s name, he’s a passionate Port supporter, he never misses a game, neither does his family. Chris has been fighting for quite a while, in and out of hospital.

While a guest of the Thompson household I learnt that Chris couldn’t speak. He taught me a great lesson in life that is easily overlooked, we are all fighters.

Chris is the type that never gives in. He’s not sitting there worrying about what if, he’s getting on with life, fighting hard, cheering for the team he loves.

Illness makes everything bear into insignificance, it brings everything and everyone back to reality – the once prized possession, that eluding luxury, they just don’t stand up to your good health.

As AFL players we’re role models, it’s our duty to get out in the community. Why shouldn’t we make someone’s day, put a smile on a face when we can.

To Chris and your family, keep fighting, we’re thinking of you and I hope that POWERful visit put a smile on your face.

Till next week,

Tredders

That's one thing I love about Tredders, and Stuey for that matter - they're quite often visiting poor sick kids and that just makes me love them even more. The club are actually really good for that - good PR I know, so it's good for them, but at the same time, it's even better for the kids who are meeting their heroes.

Yep, I agree the whole 'visit sick kids' thing is awesome. Good PR and everything, yeh sure, but they're still actually doing it. They could just send a signed photo or something ("dear sick kid, love famous person") but nope, they actually go out and do it themselves.

That's something I love about my boy Mell. He's really into the sick babies and stuff ward thing at Newcastle hospital, and he's great with kids (ill and unill too).

Because I've not rambled bout him for ages, here I shall (I know it's the wrong footy, but meh!)

OK, first is a non-sick kid. He went to the training ground and wanted Mell's autograph (coz Mell rocks and obviously this kid had some sense lol). Mell did better than that though, he took the kid off to his car (LOL this gets less dodgy I promise you...) and gave him a pair of his footy boots!!!!!!!

Second is a very ill kid. He'd had 3 kidney transplants... but obviously they kept failing. Mell was his hero. Mell went to visit him lots. And got him tickets to games. And dedicated goals to him. He was awesome with him. The kid died a year or so ago....... but just think how great my Melly made the last bit of his life, despite all the pain/dyingness....

Some people rock. Mell's one of them. Tredders and (of course) Stuey are some others.

Awww that's very sweet of your boy Lou - I like reading good things about sports stars - generally a lot easier to find bad stuff about lots of them...u know how the papers love a scandal!

So sad about that poor kid...kidney failure and problems are my biggest fear in the world...weird little phobia I have.

Know what you mean about bad articles being easier to find - especially with Mell!!!!!! lol. For every good thing he does he does at least one stupid thing! lol. (he's not a bad guy at all... he's just silly... and VERY mouthy and people try to take advantage of that by getting him in trouble for it)

The thing about the little boy who got his boots, that was an article in the local newcastle paper, specially written to show the nice side of my boy. YAY!

And the thing I'm worried about is eyes most of all... I mean... if they go...... then...... eek!!!!!

Even bigger yay!

May 3 2004, 1:09 PM

Ohh and my even bigger footy YAY was for Saturday, when my Port Maggies finally won a game!!! They’ve been close every week, but just not good enough, but it all came good on Saturday at Glenelg oval…very very very happy for the boys and our coach, Matty Knights.

It was great too, because while I was buying a ticket into the ground, some guy came up behind me, and whispered in my ear “You guys are going to get f***ing flogged today” – which scared the crap outta me…until I turned around and saw that it was one of the guys I used to work with – annoying but cute crow supporting boy. So I was a very happy girl when after the game I ran into him again and could give him crap back lol! Yes, so mature!

Tredders #4

May 6 2004, 12:50 PM

LOL I was amused by this - as I was talking about how many of the boys are now married/have kiddies etc last nite...Tredders and I must think alike!

"Tredders - Terrible & Terrific. Edition 4
5:49:38 PM Wed 5 May, 2004
Warren Tredrea
Port Adelaide Football Club
Welcome to another edition of Tredders – Terrible & Terrific. Before I get on to a new topic for this week, here’s my T&T’s.

TERRIFIC

Broges’ recovery from injury on the weekend. I wasn’t sure if he was going to get up for it or not through the week after injuring his ankle against the Bulldogs but he came up and played terrific footy on Sunday.

Roger James’ effort for Norwood on Saturday. He’s pulled up well, better than any of his past attempts, and we’d love to have him in the team as soon as he’s right.

Stuart O’Grady’s team being re-instated into professional cycling after a drugs controversy (of which our no. 1 ticketholder was not involved)

TERRIBLE

Chad’s pre-match music before a game. My locker is next to his at AAMI Stadium and he recently bought himself an ipod and he has it on maximum for a long time before the game. And he listens to thrash metal so it’s pretty off-putting for most of us. Worst of all he tries to talk to you while he’s listening and in our quiet pre-match environment he’s yelling at everyone and making all these noises, unaware of how loud he is.

Take your pick which category this goes into actually – Matthew Primus’s comments to Josh Carr while he was spitting blood with a broken jaw in the second quarter of Sunday’s game. Word has it Matty limped in to the change rooms (due to knee reconstruction) with his wrist and hand bandaged (finger surgery) and starting sledging Carry with: “You want a straw?” and “Campbell’s chunky soup?”

I thought this week I’d also discuss the importance of being ‘settled to play’.

The idea to talk about this came because recently I was talking to some of the players who have been around the place since we started in the AFL about how times have changed in the seven or so years. We remembered back to the start and how young the group was back then. There were only a handful of players on the whole list who were in long-term relationships. Stephen Paxman, Darren Mead, Gavin Wanganeen and Brayden Lyle were the only ones we could think of off the top of our heads.

Now, we only have a handful on our list who don’t live with their partner in a committed relationship. And a lot of players have children too – I think there’s 17 kids with Power-playing dads.

Personally, having that stable home life really helps me with my footy. I recently got engaged to my partner Rachael who has been a great support to me. She does pretty much everything for me and having played my best three seasons the last three years, I feel like she’s had a lot to do with it.

I know how important family is to Gavin Wanganeen too. Just using him as an example, he’s told me before on the plane home after a long hard week and travelling for an away match that he can’t wait to get home and see his wife Stephanie and have his two kids, Mia and Tex, jump on him.

It’s just important to have that life away from football. It would be so easy to live, eat and breathe football but at the end of the day I don’t think that’s going to help you play well.

The club does a lot for the young guys who don’t always have that settled life away from football especially if they’ve come over from interstate. They make sure they have a ‘distraction’ of some sort, and for 99 percent of them that’s studying. It’s also a preparation for life after football, which is something we all need to think about as well. They are also some very dedicated Adelaide families that take a new young interstate recruit into their homes and I know the likes of Stephen Gilham and Steven Salopek are pretty thankful to them.

I really enjoy playing golf and make sure I have a round every Tuesday, which is the one day the players get to have off for the week. It’s just a relaxing time that you get to yourself and can switch off from everything else. You don’t really get much of a mental break from footy – even at night times it’s on your mind with preparing meals or hydrating from training or seeing what’s being said on the news. But the golf course takes you away from all of that and that’s part of why I like it – it’s certainly not because I’m any good at it!

Other than golf, I also busy myself with some media stuff and am planning our wedding for November this year which as anyone who has been married knows, is a fair bit of work. All enjoyable though, of course!

So I guess this is just a way of saying thanks to the partners and the families who help us dedicate the necessary time to our footy careers. They have to share us with the footy club and the media and everything else – it’s definitely a full time job – but their continued support is most definitely appreciated. We know we couldn’t do it without you.

Teeheehee, methinks I should emails Tredders. I dunno why. I have nothing great to say. But there we go!

And, just wondering, how much money do footy players get?? Coz our soccer-ers get stupid amounts (I think Mell's on £30K a WEEK!!)... and I'm just intrigued to see what the diff is.

You should email Warren Lou - go on!!!

Ummm the better players probably get around $500,000, $600,000 thousand a year...which in comparison to soccer, ain't that much lol! But others get quite a bit less than that.

Woo hoo! rd.7

May 9 2004, 11:06 PM

Massive yays for my boys nice comeback against the old enemy!!! It was so exciting and I was so proud to be up on the seat singing the song loudly above the heads of the C'Wood supporters as they left the ground. It was sweet sweet revenge out there yesturday ... and boy did I enjoy it! I know it only came in the forth quarter, but the fact that they fought back, those young guys, who give it their all and stand up when they need to is so inspiring for our future! In the last 2 years, I wouldn't have hoped for a fight back and to get over the top of them (anyone for that matter)...and to make that kinda of turn around after last week, was really pleaseing. I don't expect too much from them for the moment, but I do expect a fight and that's what they gave, ... and in the end, prevailed ... and boy was it a fantastic feeling!!!

Well done to my boys, esp. Fevvie, young Davies, Teague and Mr Everywhere-Lappin!!! But I do love you all!!!! YAY!!

Only 1 more game to go ... for me live anyways ... argh no!

Tredders 5

May 14 2004, 7:59 PM

Here are some of the highlights of Warren's latest column lol...

Terrific - Rove Live! (YAY Warren loves Rove too!)

Terrible - Reality TV, I hate it in general but specifically Big Brother 4, Australian Idol, Survivor and Paradise Hotel. (oh come on Warren...all of those shows are BRILLIANT!)

Terrible - Young forward Jacob Surjan buying a Power g-string from the Power Gear Shop. The question is who was it for? Hopefully not himself. You didn’t think we’d find out did you Surj? (I adore Jacob!!!)

Terrible - Josh Carr’s new best friend, a straw, while also living off a diet of yogurt, soup and mashed potato for the next four weeks. (Awwww poor Joshy...that's not funny Warren!!!)

And the bizarre part is this following competition Warren is now running...

"I’m now five weeks in to my column so I reckon it’s time we had our first competition.

It’s probably not the best competition going around but it’s a good excuse for making you look at a couple of the more ordinary ankles you’re likely to see, especially the famous one on the right. Both belong to current teammates of mine, so the competition is you have to guess who they belong to. I’ll give you a hint – neither has played for us this season.

The prize is the best bit – you get the bandage that currently wraps the behemoth ankle on the right, signed by the owner. (We might be able to find something worthwhile for you as well.)"

RIGHT.

YAY boys!

May 23 2004, 12:19 PM

Very big YAY for my boys winning last night - I wasn't overly confident after the past 2 weeks, and our million feckin injuries, so I'm very proud of the boys!

Chad was sensational, Wilbur was excellent as usual - all the boys played well - particularly the ones named in an article yesterday that said they'd been shite....poor boys! So VERY proud of them.

outta interest, how often did he text you? surely not every time someone kicked a goal/got a behind?? Coz then it'd be like allllll the time!! lol. At least with soccer footy there's not likely to be more than 3 or 4 goals in general, so it's pretty easy to keep up to date via texts (thank GOD for Rik when I'm away and he's watching the match!!)

so yeh, just interested to see how the text updates would work here....

"Aaahhh the memories...
6:25:44 PM Wed 9 June, 2004
Port Adelaide Football Club
Remember when footy was played simple, oranges at the breaks were the only sustenance required, car horns made up most of the crowd noise, and you left your jocks on in the showers after the game?

Those memories and hundreds more came flooding back to the Power players when they dusted off their ‘grassroots’ guernseys, stretched them over their bulked-up frames and paraded them at training on Wednesday as part of the AFL’s Round 12 Grass Roots Week.

Jared Poulton and Michael Wilson stole the limelight for their efforts in re-donning their primary school jumpers – both were proud North Haven Primary students. And yes, they were a very, very tight fit - Poults’ was a size 6 and Wilbur’s a size 8!

Darryl Wakelin, wearing a red and white guernsey of the Kelly Football Club from the Kimba Football League (on the Eyre Peninsula), said the players had had a lot of fun comparing their old guernseys and were proud to be able to wear them again.

“I’m very proud to wear this tonight. There’s some classics on show,” Wakelin said before the rest of the group emerged for training on Wednesday.

“Some of your favourite memories are of when you’re growing up and your junior football days and knocking around with your mates and just having a kick. That’s what you have to get back to sometimes with all the pressure of AFL. You have to look back to those days and enjoy footy as it was.”

Best time!!!!

June 22 2004, 10:43 AM

I had the best time last night!!! Went to Women In Power dinner at the club – food was yum, everyone was chatty, music was great! And it was young Steve Salopek’s birthday so he was loving every minute of it! So cute! It was great to see the boys having a good time – pretty much just because they were allowed to have a few drinks if they wanted to lol…they were WAY too excited about that, particularly Matty Primus lol! Bretty Ebert who is usually so shy and quiet was having the time of his life! He was supposed to leave early to go home and study for an exam, but he was the last of the boys to leave lol…very cute! And little Lukey Peel, our shy little 17 year old was first up on the dance floor, singing and dancing the night away…so funny!

Tredders column

June 24 2004, 11:50 AM

HOW RUDE!!!!! - "Kane Cornes, one of our best players on Saturday night, having not one journalist or camera-man rock up to his Monday press conference. I’m told he still stood in front of the Power backdrop and talked to himself about how well he played on Paul Hasleby." POOR OLD KANE!!!

POOR KINGERS! - "Adam Kingsley reverting to his 1997 hair-cut that was already five years out-dated when he came to the club." OH YEAH, COZ TREDDERS IS A STYLE GURU!

question

June 25 2004, 9:27 AM

ok, here's a question. maybe a bit impossible to answer... but here goes anyways...

so, it's the start of the last quarter. or maybe half way through the last quarter.

and you're winning.

at what kind of gap between the scores do you start to breathe easy and think "ok... keep it tight and we can win this"

obviously it depends how both teams are playing and whatever... coz I was trying to think of the soccer version of the answer... and it's kinda at 2 goals where you figure 'it's ok, we've got a cushion of a goal' but if the other team suddenly picks up form and gets a goal back, you're right on the edge again.

so if it's an impossible question i don't mind. or if the answer is 42 without a doubt, then cool!

Oh the joys!

June 27 2004, 11:57 PM

Oh how I thoroughly enjoyed last nights win over the much dispised Collingwood. It was such a close game with the lead changing 15 times throughout. It was good to get over the line and yeah. WAHOO!!

It was good seeing Mickey back playing good footy. its been a long time. I love how when Mickey was being interviewed they boys started shouting in the background FRYZIE GO FRYZIE. Because former swan Ryan fitzgerald is a current BB housemate, and he was offered the chance to complete a personal task in the house and be rewarded with watching the Swans game on Saturday night! So the swans boys took their opporunity to say gday! lol

I am so impressed with my boys at the moment...they were awesome againts the Saints yesterday - such a great game of footy. I think we're slowly getting better now that we're getting players back, and fit again....yesterday was a brilliant team effort, they were desperate, they were tough...they really wanted to win. GREAT GAME!

Awww Stuey!

July 13 2004, 10:56 AM

Stuey was on the radio last night, talking about his very late inclusion...so funny! He was an emergency, but as the guys all ran out for the second time just before the game started, he realised he wasn't needed so went up to the stands to find his seat. Just before the first bounce Matty Primus yelled out to him that he had to go get his stuff, because he was needed. Poor Stuey thought Matt was just being mean and taking the piss, but eventually realised he wasn't...then realised that most of his stuff was in his car, so had to run outta footy park, grab his bag from his car, which was open, so he dropped half of it on the car park ground, and then didn't have a ticket to get back into the ground, so he had to jump the turnstile lol! He got back into the ground at about the 12 minute mark of the first quarter, and when he ran on all the boys were like "WHAT THE?" and Roger James asked what the hell he was doing there! Silly boys hadn't even realised that Gav had hurt himself in the warm up lol!

Love Stuey!

on the bright side, he's saying that i HAVE to go and stay with him, and that there's room there for visitors or whatnot....

I finished watching the AFL highlights today - which included the second half on the Collingwood vs Geelong game (I actually watched it ALL in real time, rather than skipping bits then playing occasionally to look out for Al... LOL)

Anyhoos..... when he got bashed into towards the end, when his jaw got broken... I mean, I KNEW it was gonna happen.... but I was still like "AL!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and then sat there with my hands over my mouth for about 3 mins until he hobbled off the pitch. LOL. ("LOL" at my reaction that is... not LOL at him hobbling off the pitch!!! eek!)

T'was almost as bad at the time towards the end of our last footy season, where Mell was sprinting down the side of the pitch after the ball, and suddenly you could almost FEEL his ligament/muscle/whatever go in his leg as he pulled up SO SHARPLY and had to hop until he was able to stop (coz he'd been sprinting sooo fast). Was fecking HORRIBLE to watch... and then they kept showing replays of it!!! I was almost in tears! lol

So proud of my boys tonight. It has been sucha tough week for them. Not sure if you know Bri and Lou, but our head trainer, Wally Jackson died of a heart attack midway thru the last quarter last week on the Swans bench. Its been such a hard week for the guys, all attended his funeral on WEdnesday. Whats even tougher was they all attended Wallys wife funeral only 5 weeks earlier.

The boys played so strongly tonihgt against the Demons, a hug team effort to come up winners. Was so sad at the end of the game, Wallys 2 surviving sons were the amongst the boys, Peter and Chris, are only 23 and 27. The boys all had tears down their cheeks!

So proud.
