| Whoa! A Jack-of-all-philosophies. First one of those I’ve seen ‘round these here parts…
I see little point in digging too deep into anything you’ve said. After all, you’ve pretty much disarmed me by making it clear that being right is not your goal, being consistent is not on your to-do list, and identifying with any one group is not your style. And that’s all cool. There are many positives here – for one, you have always been a thinker, and valued thought. I consider that a positive. I remember when you commended me on what a well written piece I wrote in high school, which happened to be a piece I wrote in direct opposition to a piece you had written. It stuck me that the first thing you made clear was that you were more impressed by how I wrote, and less interested in the fact that I was disagreeing with your position. I respected that, and I wished there were more people who could distinguish between style and substance.
The only place I’d even start bantering here is in your apparent belief that holding contradictory beliefs can in some way make sense. (One God, no God, many Gods…) I’d say that, while contradictory ideas may exist in a persons mind, they cannot exist in a healthy mind. Nor can actual contradictions exist in reality. So while I’m all for you believing what you like… I assert that holding contradictory ideas erodes a persons ability to think. And I can prove it with an etch-a-sketch, an abacus, a few pebbles and a 12-pack.
Speaking of which – I was about to sign off on that note, but I absolutely have to clear one thing up. Leilani is not a “drinker” by any stretch of the imagination. The MySpace question is “Smoke? Drink?” She answered No to the first because, while she has smoked in the past, it’s not something she regards as a healthy activity and she does not identify herself as a smoker. I’ve smoked in the past, and I’ll have a smoke maybe one, twice, or thrice a year. But by no stretch would I call myself a smoker. I think it’s a disgusting habit and I’d never date a smoker ever again. I hate kissing a fucking ash tray.
Nor does she ever drink. However, I think she recognizes drinking as a pretty normal social behavior and, when she gets older, she realizes it’s something she’d probably do from time to time in the course of normal social interaction. She has drank once or twice with her friends before, and she and I have shared a bottle of wine or two, but it’s not something she’s into at all by any stretch. She’s a hell of a lot more on the straight and narrow than I was at her age.
So please, please don’t be under the impression that Lei is a “drinker”. I think that one can drink from time to time without being considered a “drinker”. She’s no more a drinker than a catholic priest that routinely takes communion.
Now me… I’m a drinker! Hehe
Stick around, dude. Liven the place up some!
