Heh. I like that joke!
Yeah, I have the least amount of sympathy for this guy -- but we still share quite a lot of DNA, and I don't think that anyone ever gets evil enough that I'd feel comfortable saying "he deserves no sympathy". The most I'd want to say (though sometimes I just get revolted, and let that emotion get the best of me) is "He makes it almost impossible to be sympathetic."
Did he claim he'd been molested? So have some friends of mine. And you know what? That doesn't mean you turn into a mass murderer, or a Republican congressman who "licks the page before he turns it", or someone equally evil. ;) Yeah, there's definitely some personal courage and willingness to get some therapy.
But I think I suggested the other day that he was just plain nuts because he said his God told him to kill people. I don't think that means anything in terms of his sanity. It poses a theological problem, sure, since his God hasn't been on record as being in favor of killing in the past 2000 years, but that's not evidence that he's mentally ill. I think it's more likely that he's using religion to justify his behavior to himself, primarily, and also to others.
And I think he should be locked up forever, and made aware that he has the right to choose suicide any time he's ready to check out. |
