Response to Stick to the point!
Future business investments by foreigners? Hasn't it entered your thick skull that whenever foreigners invest in our country, they (1) invest as little as possible in lasting infrastructure, (2) take out as much as they possibly can, starting with all the profits? Foreign investment by Asian countries over the last 20 years has opened the door to our leaders to come with begging hands and get countless hundreds of millions in bribes paid under the table havent you noticed that? Our government is bought and sold to foreign investors who even gave Somare millions, via ANZ bank, to bribe MPs into joining his government in 2007.Apart from all that, if all that isn't enough, the foreign businesses and investments almost never get turned over to PNG hands so why the hell did we ever bother to localise expat positions? Now the expats come in under the name of 'foreign investment' and they get as many work permits as they want, own their business as long as they want and send to their own country as many of the kina as they can get outta poor PNG pockets. Sorry for not following YOUR rule that we should stick to the topic (no one else does anywhere else on this forum or for that matter almost any other forum on the internet) but your wanker idea that we need more foreign investment ignores all the foreign investment we've had so far that has yielded nothing but more foreign ownership of our resources and more of our resources going to fuel overseas economic development. Let's start with all PNG's oil which is now nearly gone compared to what used to be there. Yeah tell me what we got out of all that oil and now InterOil gets to use PNG oil but charges us poor citizens the rate it would cost if they were shipping that oil processed from Singapore. Read the government agreements and stop buying into the BS of the foreigners who want you to believe that foreign investmentis good for PNG. Yeah mate, get educated about foreign investment. You're a patsy of the corrupt leaders we got as well as a pawn of the foreign investors with your way of thinkin. Or maybe your one of those who figure you'll find a way to get into the pockets of some foreigner and get rich off their investment while the average PNGean gets poorer and poorer.
If you're really for your country and its development, don't support things that give us some short term benefits but end up selling us down the toilet in the long haul. It would be better if we learnt to be self sufficient even with slower development than whats happening now with how little we get out of all that foreign investment. I'm for PNG, mate.
