The neighborhood in Queens, NY was bad before John Gotti took over...full of dope dealers, thugs and pimps before The Don. Handfuls of politicians could not accomplish what John Gotti did for Queens, NY. Streets became safe and clean, drugs gone...the neighborhood truely became a Neighborhood. As a young girl in Queens, I remember the fireworks Gotti would put on for the 4th of July and pony rides for the kids...again, he did what no politician could do- he shut down the neighborhood streets and put on a real celebration...>AT NO CHARGE<!!
And the Catholic church had the nerve to deny this man (that donated thousands to his neighborhood Catholic church) the decency of a Catholic mass and funeral. Heck, in light of perverted priests, I don't think the words "decent" and "Catholic" belong together in the same sentence.
Hey, I'm not saying the Don was a saint, but he was a family man.
I hope The Days are not over, but I fear they are...Don Gotti was the last..the last of the Men of Honor, the Last of The Good Ol' Days.
Rest in Peace, Don Gotti, Cappo de Tutti Cappos
Kristi Bruno
