THE OLYMPICS GAMES

THE OLYMPIC GAMES.
What a great summer we are having. We have celebrated the Queen's Diamond Jubilee bringing together communities to celebrate sixty years of Queen Elizabeth the 11's reign. Now we are about to embark on the Olympics focusing the eyes of the world on our country once more. The greatest athletes of both the Olympics and paralympics are going to be descending on London and various other venues around the country. Some may be lucky enough to have tickets, and will remember the summer for the rest of their lives. However you feel you cannot miss the preparations that are going on.

If you read Galatians 5 verse seven, you will see Paul wrote; ''You were running a great race''.

Paul was fond of depicting the Christian life as a race. We might not look at ourselves as athletes;we might not consider ourselves great runners, jumpers, swimmers or cyclists, but our lives are a journey,a marathon more than a sprint. There is only one judge in our lives and that is God. He helps us to run the race, holding firm to the end. Granting his blessings and grace to us. Being active and sporty is all very well, but we also need to remember to rest and recharge our spiritual lives. We know that God rested after he created the world in Genesis 2 verse 2; By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work''.

In Mark 6 verse 31 Jesus said, ''Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest''. Many of us do rest in the summer, due to holidays. It is good to rest,to come back to our everyday life renewed and refreshed. Let us pray God of Sabbath to teach us to enrich our rest and leisure with reverence and with praise and thanksgiving. When we rest enough we get new strength to continue with our journey as if we just have started. A good beginning gives us hope to move on focusing the targeted mark of the race, without turning back. AMEN.
