The recent song-and-dance at JIAM's venue of the seeing the light of one Maina Njenga- yes, the Mungiki CiC- as faithful adherents ululated themselves hoarse amidst heaps gyrations still evoke jitters in some who can assess the intricacies of threshing wheat, until the eyes are focused onto the larger picture. Agricultural scientists will avow to the perils that farmers face. For weeds are no longer that evil as in the days of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Indeed, the weed is an important item even for the sane whose occasional visit to the fairy world needs some smoke. Even the good Queen Mother is said to have been a smoker. Weeds, too in the recent world of global warming are as important as they comprise some delicious nourish to the bourgeois vegetarians, while a good ground cover saves the soil against erosion and clogging rivers with the resultant flooding in the hallowed Coast and Usumu.
But our Master's teachings about tares in wheat fields comes with a difference. He cautioned that in times of uprooting the tares while growing alongside the wheat, the disturbances would kill the wheat too. He did not advocate use of Round-up, He did not recommend clearing the whole fields to exterminate the weeds like KEPHIS or the UKBA's quarantine, He did not charge that livestock be let into the field to graze on the potential crop. He cautioned that tares and wheat be let grow together until harvesting.
Of Christians today, their greatest fear is Islamification of their neighbourhoods. Talk of including Sharia Law in the constitution is like the end of the world. Even intra-denominational rivalries are as hot and regular as heartbeats. The game is- I am the way and no other is to salvation.
Aren't we being even more extremist that the Al Qaeda themselves?
The Barikiwenis will continue excluding those who are not of their church and even view them as the lost. Suspicion is live for those who don't speak in tongues, for they are not gifted with the Holy Spirit. Any one girl who conceives out of wedlock is excluded like she were an alien from Pluto. A man who imbibes a bit too liberally and pees against the wall is seen the real devil's incarnate.
Where is the spirit of tolerance? Why do we want to uproot the tares from our midst to sanitise our environs? Why do we want to create our own Utopia when Christ Himself went out amongst sinners and even accepted ointment from Martha? Or why wont Babu's shine on KG's touch let many sleep easy?
Like it or not, tares and wheat have to grow together. And until harvest time, both tares and wheat have a mutual dependency that saves each. And even upon harvest, the wheat will be threshed and the grain separated from the chaff. Therefore, the fate of the tares sees to the same of part of the wheat- being fodder or mulch. Not even are the tares totally waste.
This morning, whatever kind of waster you have been relegated to, you still have some use. Papered or not, partnered or single, parent or barren, cardboard city or East Finchley resident, you have some worth to your Maker. You are not worthless as some will not stop telling you. |
