I was really surprised to learn that solar energy is amongst the most expensive sources of energy. And it should be really when you look at the initial set up cost and more especially on the output. Of course, Europe has the budget muscle to support whimsical "green" experiments such as the one you have mentioned above.

As per Kenya, I know we have nuclear scientists around but I'm not so sure how capable we are in running a nuclear plant, even with the support of the French. My take on this is, let's throw the bloody Kyoto Protocol into Nairobi river, then we go to Kitui, dig up all that coal lying there idle, burn it up, heat some water, produce steam, drive turbines and voila! We have electricity.
