Zambia Police seek Banda's son holed in Kenya
The Zambia Police Service has issued an international warrant of arrest for former President Rupiah Bandas son Henry whom they say is hiding in Kenya.
Inspector General of Police Dr Martin Malama said the police were trying to extradite Henry from Kenya where he is believed to be residing after flying in from South Africa.
Henry, who had seemingly become powerful during his fathers three-year reign, is wanted in connection with what Dr Malama described as several illegalities that could have been committed while his father was President of Zambia.
His name and that of former Minister of Communications and Transport Dora Siliya have been linked to Cayman Island-registered company RP Capital.
RP Capital was, according to an inquiry report on the sale of Zamtel, paid up to US$12.6 million to valuate the repossessed assets of the telecoms company.
RP Capital valued Zamtel's assets at under US$20 million when the market value in two years time was expected to peak at about US$5 billion.
We have given a warrant of arrest for Henry and we have contacted Interpol, Dr Malama told journalists in Lusaka on Tuesday, adding
that the notice has a presence in 190 countries.
Theres no need for him to be a fugitive. Zambia is a land of laws. Let him just come back home and answer the questions we have for him.
