The Psalmist has many lessons for those with eyes to read and ears to hear, but more so for those with the heart to perceive. He is one man who had total art of handling women and even the capacity to the physical. And women are sure a breed of their own when it comes to depth of wisdom. And so, the Psalmist must have accumulated lots of wealth from his nine hundred strong harem.
Towards his end of writing, he psalmed that a good woman's lamp never ran out of oil. In the world today of solar and nuclear and geothermal and hydro power, burning oil is a myth. Even the villagers have learnt the power of batteries and oil lamps are museum pieces. And try blowing a lit bulb like the wick of a candle and you will know one of Babu's challenges to nature. Today, light is figuratively produced at the end of a switch. No messy stinking sooty flickering hassles.
Yet, of a woman's lamp never running out of oil comes with a sobering pointer. The light cast leads one from darkness. A light calls one from the doom and fear to the well known. And such, women are a sure call from the lost wondering to the safety of a home. A woman is the home maker out of the bricks and mortar than men crumble up.
A man drinks to his full at the local bar knowing that his home will be calling as he staggers blindly in the night. Children take prodigal cloaks knowing that mummy is home and always ready to take them back. Even cows know that a woman is home to provide feed.
Women are like the lighthouses and guide lost ship safely to harbor. Women are easy to confide in each other and bail each other out unlike men who are fast to slaughter each other as well as their own budding children. Women make safe haven when economies fail, when retrenchments cull, when health fails, when bodies have been brutalised, and even when faith has taken a wandering into the wilderness. Women rally together and pray for the lost and for peace.
A woman's oil lamp is not that karabai. It is her soul, her peace, her wisdom, her nurture, and her mouth. And blessed are they all that have women who have oil lamps to guide them home.
